Sep. 10, 2008 - BFS #101: Plop, plop, fizz, fizz; oh what a relief it is!
Assignment: This would be a good week to tell about your worst struggles with a lifestyle of homeschooling. Tell about something you’ve struggled with and how God’s mercies gave us the strength to get past it. Also, share any curriculum/homeschool methods that have been a relief to you, i.e., a particular Teacher’s Manual or Homeschooling method that’s been easier for your family. Talk about how you felt when the burden was lifted and Oh, What a Relief it is!
If this question had been posed prior to yesterday evening, I wouldn't have know how to answer! I suppose it could be said that it *was* posed but I didn't check it until today! lol
My biggest struggle with the lifestyle of homeschooling is that of isolation. Not ever having other homeschool moms to share with 'in real life'. It is certainly one thing to blog online and read others blogs ~and at times it's a huge blessing~ but it can't replace that one on one time of fellowship with other homeschool moms.
We are in a period of transition in our lives. Dh has resigned his pastorate in KY and we are waiting to see where God will put us. In the meantime, we're at our home church in NC and they have a good size homeschool group within the church! I was able to attend a HS moms meeting last night (the second one since being here) and WHAT A BLESSING! For the first time in a long time, I felt some legitimacy to our homeschooling venture. I realized how much I'd lost sight of what and why we do what we do. What a time of refreshing it was.
I used to think I didn't *need* a homeschool group or real life fellowship but I've discovered that is not true - I've just learned to live without it. But God knew exactly what I needed and when I needed it and He is providing.

Thanks for visiting me and I am glad you like my blog! SL is very expensive! I didn't buy everything. I am using my library and buying some readers used. So far, it is going great! You can just buy the readers schedule if you like the readers and use your library or buy used. The schedule is like $6.
I love my HS group! I think it is definitely important to have relationships with other hs for encouragement and because they know what we are going through!

Hello from KY~ I don't know what I'd do without our hs group! I love it and my daughter loves it more. We did homeschool the first year without any support and knowing only one family that did. I think that was God's way of helping my family to heal from the trauma of public schooling. We're so grateful now that He got through to us...Thank you for sharing with us...bless you all ways!

that you found a place to meet and get to know others. It can be very lonely and isolating. Blessings-

I know what you mean by needing a friend that understands. It is hard to find one that is like minded to what you belive in. I hope that you continue to have a nice fellowship at the hs meetings for mom. I really wish I had something like that at my church. I am the only hsing mom....
God Bless
