Eleven Oreos

The Golden Rule Has Blooms!

"Mom," said Jacob, "I need to talk to you. I think I have a personal problem."

"OK," I replied. "Tell me about it."

"Well, you know Brad?" he asked. "You know how rough he gets with me?  Like when he was spending the night that time, and I accidentally flipped his nose when we were messing around.  All of a sudden, he said, 'Ok, I'm really getting you now!' and he started wrestling hard and wouldn't let go of me and just wouldn't stop."

"I remember that," I said.  "How is that a personal problem."

"I think I do that to Sol," Jacob said.  "Sometimes we are just messing around, and I feel this thing come up in me, and I just have to get him hard or I won't stop pushing a point I'm trying to make.  I think I'm frustrating him.  And it makes me feel sick.  I feel like I'm being Brad."

"Sounds like Brad," I said.  "And it does indeed sound like a personal problem.  What are you going to do about it?"

"I don't know," he said. "That's why I wanted to talk to you about it."

"OK. Then here's my advice.  March right in there and tell Sol everything you just told me."

He turned immediately and I saw him take Sol into another room.

A few minutes later, Jacob came out beaming.

"I should have figured that out a long time ago," he said.

"Why's that?" I asked.

"Because Solomon is so happy!  I know now why he hasn't thought I was a good friend.  I've been trying and trying to make things better with him, and all I had to do was figure out what I was doing wrong and tell him I was wrong.  And now he's just so happy! I feel so good I could fly!"

I like your version of that verse. How ironic that we are likely to be bugged by the very things we do ourselves.

Thank you for the compliment on the earings. I don't currently sell at anything. I would like to have some in a little shop someday. I mostly make them as gifts really, and some for myself. You know how it is, you end up giving more away than keeping for yourself. I also have a website.

www.bead-attitude.com

I sell online but have yet to get any orders from my website. Actually, most of my sales came from HSB. Let me know if you would like me to make a pair for you.

How perceptive of your son to let God reveal that to him and want to change!! I lOVE moments like that! Where you see the workings of their heart being prunned. What great advice you gave him and how great to see that relationship becoming restored! You gave good laughter with your comment on my blog! I look forward to read more of your writings. I'm Sure there is much you could teach about homeschoooling!

God is so amazing! It's awesome how the Holy Spirit can convict in a way that we never can.

Everytime I read your entries I'm either challenged, or refreshed. I just finished reading about the public school teachers blogs, and what you learned in your student teaching, and then the icing on the cake....your very mature boys working out their problems. I LOVE IT! I wish you lived in the house next door to mine so I could have tea in your kitchen and soak up all your widsom. But the blog will have to do.

We are a fairly large homeschooling family with one just starting out in life, some of school age, and one married with a family of his own. There are many things unique about us, but the first thing most people notice is that some of us are black and some of us are white. Thus our name...Eleven Oreos. This blog is for recording journal entries for our children...most specifically our daughters and daughters-in-law...in case there is anything they can learn from our turn on the seesaw.
