Last night I asked one of the kids to get me a piece of bread for Abraham.
"What are you going to put on it?" Mahala asked.
"Nothing," I replied. "He likes it plain."
"You have to put something on it. He's not supposed to eat it plain," Mahala said.
"Huh? Why not? He likes it that way!" I said.
"The Bible says that you have to put stuff on your bread," she said.
"It does not!" I said, laughing.
"Yes! It really does!" she said. "I just read it."
"Where does it say that?" I asked.
"Where Jesus told us that man does not live on bread alone," she said. Completely serious! I'm not kidding! The girl really thought that's what the scripture meant!
I laughed and laughed and called Tim and told him and she was blushing and smiling and not really sure why I was laughing. She was so innocent, but I had to explain about interpreting scripture within its context...which she didn't quite get. She is only 8, after all.

Dec. 26, 2006 - Aha!
Well, actually I heard that Dr. writer, Ruben something or other or maybe it's something or other Ruben --Jason? anyway, say, never eat your carbs naked. To put something on bread because it goes straight to a sugar jump in your blood. As I am a vague listener that is only a general quote except never eat your carbs naked. So the child knoweth whence she speaketh.
be blessed,
Miss Meg

That is such a cute and sweet story! I love having children around, they keep life well, lively. ;-)
Jan. 13, 2007 - I love those moments!
It's amazing how our children filter information isn't it? I've been teaching my dd6 to share and even provided scripture for her. Yesterday, I was going to eat the last orange in the house as a snack. She piped up, "Mom, you're going to share that orange, aren't you?" Me, "No, I hadn't thought of it."
Her, "God wants us to share all our fruits."
Me, "Yes, honey- here's some orange."
Have a nice hiatus,
Jessica
