My new addictions ...
Home birthing and cloth diapering. I don't know that I'd call them addictions .. but right now I'm certainly addicted to trying to find out all the info I can on both.
This pregnancy came before we had planned it (but not before He had planned it
). We have little maternity coverage, only coverage for emergencies and certain complications. So we decided to check out other options (options that were floating around in my head anyway .. I'm just amazed at how the Lord works .. giving us a little nudge in the right direction). I had found out about two midwives that do home deliveries in my area earlier in the summer, so we decided to check them out. Since then, I've read 'Ina May's Guide to Childbirth' and have ordered several other books. I'm inspired to say the least. (Addicted maybe?!?) Ha! I just want information, ya know.
And now cloth diapering. Wowee, they are just toooo cute. But there are oodles of options. The gals at Sonlight have aided me in narrowing it down and also answer any and all questions with that tried and true, been there done that, kind of advice. It's great.
Wait until everyone hears about this. First it was homeschooling .. now home birthing and cloth diapering .. everyone will surely think I've gone off the deep end.
In other news, I'm tired and icky. Not vomiting sick, thank goodness .. just icky .. and bloated. You'd think I was 4-5 months pregnant. I was a complete dud this week on our little vacation. It's good we told everyone, because they'd have surely found out anyway.

I am sorry that you are feeling icky. Sometimes I think that is the worst feeling because it is so vague and hard to explain.
Um. . .I won't touch homebirth and cloth diaper because that is not me and frankly they both scare me. I really do admire women that can do that stuff though.

Good for you! I'm not into home births (have to have C-sections) or cloth diapers (call me a wimp!), but I'm so happy to hear people who decide for themselves and don't let others' opinions change theri minds!
I'm with you on the tired and yucky feeling. I just feel so unmotivated and want to lay around all the time. But with two others to care for, I can't and so Iend up being cranky sometimes. Here's hoping we both get past this stage soon!

Hope you get some energy soon! :-)
Okay, I draw the line at cloth diapering though. blech! No way, hosea! The home birthing though, would be very cool indeed. Although all of my boys were born in a hospital, I had always wanted to give birth at a birthing center. Kinda like home but I don't have to clean up anything! hehehee...
But my husband was a bit fearful with our first being well...our first...so we went the hospital route. We had difficulties with early labor and such with our second, so he was born in a hospital. And since my dh was nervous about our third being like our second, he was born in a hospital as well. *sigh* Oh well, it worked out well for us anyway!
A very dear friend of mine had 8 of her 9 children at home. She would actually have a birthing day party at her house! Her friends from church would all come over and we'd eat, talk about babies and anything else that came to mind, and just have a good time together. Having a baby was an event for everyone to share and enjoy! Plus, it made the laboring time go by faster for her. (when it came to the pushing and such, it was just her, her dh and kids in the other room-- so a little privacy!).
Isn't it wonderful that you have so many options and choices? No matter what you end up doing, I know it will be a magical moment for you!
Lots of love,
Marsha

I get like that too "adicted" about learning about new things....I wish I had this desire to GAIN information while I was younger it seems to have just hit since having children.
I too did a lot of 'looking' around and was planning on cloth diapering when we were pregnant. If/when we do have another little one I am 95% we will cloth diaper.
Home birth---dh isn't at ALL ready...I have a good bit of problems during labor...nothing TOO bad but with 10lb babies and high blood pressure issues it would make him INCREDIBLY nervous!!! Can't wait to hear what you decide!! I didn't know of any home birth midwives near here ..... I also don't know of any 'birthing center's' do you? Just curious...I thought about that but couldn't find one... anyway..
So excited for you...and as skinny as you are no wonder you look a little bloated/pregy!! HOW EXCITING!!!

LOL Those sound like some pretty fun "addictions." Okay maybe not the homebirth for me, I'm an epidural type of gal LOL, but definately cloth diapers. If we had been blessed with a second child, I wanted to use cloth. They are just soooo cute!!! I'm still semi-addicted to them, even though I know we're not having another child. LOL

I had a homebirth with my 3rd. It was definitely my best birthing experience ever!! There's something to be said about no drugs. You just feel so much better without it. My midwife was an awesome support, too. My 4th was back to the hospital and while it was still a pretty good experience, the whole IV incident was pretty bad while having really strong and fast contractions! They couldn't get it in and kept poking me over and over. I was about ready to go home and have it unassisted! LOL. I've read Ina May's book...and love the Bradley Method of childbirth.... at least the relaxation part...it worked wonders on those painful contractions!
I started cloth diapering my 4th baby after having the other 3 in disposables. I always thought it was gross, not for me, yuck, yuck, yuck....now I love it. My friend found me a great deal on some MotherEase One size diapers and my little Savannah has been in them since she was a couple weeks old! (She's 13 months now).
Congrats on finding something new to learn about! :)

I found your blog by random blogging and I can completely relate on the obsession mode of wanting more information! I am into cloth diapering (I can hear the gasps of all the women, lol) and love it. I didn't think I was going to have it in myself to be able to wash them out but it isn't any big deal. And you are right they are so cute and come in so many styles, patterns, and types in general. We are very pleased with our choice to use them and wish we would have tried them with our first and second child. Good luck on finding all the information you are wanting and with your choice in general.
I am unsure of the home birth, only because of lack of information. I have had several friends do it and haven't heard any regrets or complaints. Enjoy your new passions!
Best wishes to you and your family.

Yes, you have gone over the edge, just don't let the breastfeeding wackos get you. The next thing you know you know you will be making bby food from scratch.
I like the idea of home birthing, but something always goes wrong. For those who don't want to home birth, there are midwives who work with hospital also. Go for a midwife and not a doctor.
Cloth diapers. To brave for me. But you might want to try elimantion training instead.
