We did the annual cookie bakin' day today where we make 'the' cut out cookies....always a favorite....all the different colored icings, sugar sprinkles, MMMMmmm.........& here is the recipe :
2/3 C Butter, softened
3/4 C Sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 Tbsp. milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 C flour
Start by mixing butter, add sugar, continue mixing. Add remaining ingredients, mix. Batter may be dry, and have to be finished up by hand, roll into ball and set in fridge for 30 minutes to chill.
(We multiplied this recipe by 4 and got a nice 4 dozen or more cookies. :)
Flour surface, take dough out, roll out, cut out, bake.........decorate!
Here is a very special recipe in our family, passed down from my husbands grandmother, to my Dad (FIL) and Ma, and they passed it on to me (along with Grandma's big ol' electric griddle!) these are DElicious!
6 Eggs
4 Cups o' Buttermilk
1/4 Cup Salad Oil (any)
1 Cup Cream (half n half)
1 package of yeast (little single packages-don't know measurement here)
4 Cups Flour
2 Tablespoons Baking Powder
2 Tablespoons Sugar
2 Tablespoons Baking Soda
1 Tablespoon Salt
Make this in a large tupperware type bowl with lid. Beat eggs, add Buttermilk, oil, cream and yeast ~ stir well. Add remaining ingredients, and stir well until all mixed up :) Store in fridge, stirring every 24 hours. Best if made up a few days ahead of time, and set in fridge....stirring each day....and my Dad n Ma make it up 2 weeks ahead of time-for the best flavor! :) (and yes, everytime I get this outta the fridge, there is a grey to black tint on top--that is the yeast, just stir it up well, and put back in the fridge!)
This is an EASY way to have a homemade yummy breakfast ready to go, just heat that griddle, and you're set! :) ENJOY! This recipe makes quite a few pancakes.....great for the holiday season, when we have lots of folks around!
We love to make homemade goodies around here, and here is an easy recipe to make your own bath salts!
1 cup of Sea or Kosher Salt
1/2 cup Epsom Salt
12 drops of scented oil
1/4 cup of baking soda
OPTIONAL : food coloring, if you like colored bath salts...I don't like to use the food color personally.
Store in a sealed bag or container...and if you'd like to give as a gift, find a container or glass bottle of choice, and dress it up to reflect yours or the recipients preference ~ ENJOY! This makes a wonderful, personal, homemade gift~or treat for yourself!!

Here's a great way to use up a lot of those fresh, delicious apples available right now. This recipe is not only great for pie, but turnovers, tarts and apple crisp as well. It also makes a great gift.
In a large bowl, mix the apples together with the lemon juice to keep them from browning. Set aside. In a lage pot, combine brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Add water and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for two minutes. Add apples (you may want to drain off some of the lemon juice, but I think it adds a nice flavor) and return to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer until apples are tender, about 6-8 minutes. Have quart-sized canning jars hot and ready. Pack each jar with the filling to 1/2 inch from the top. Screw down lids. Process in hot water bath for 20 minutes. Makes about 5 quarts.
