Snow? Posted: 8:13 AM, Dec. 27, 2006 We have a tiny dusting of white outside, and the air is COLD!   It would be nice, if it is going to be cold, to have a bit more of the white stuff. It has been a nice week so far.  Even though our holiday events are minimal, we had a nice meal on Monday, and I got to spend most of the afternoon and evening doing cross-stitch.  That is my idea of a wonderful day. Yesterday we did a full day of school.  I am not planning much time off during these holiday weeks because we are planning a few days off in January when my parents come up for a visit to celebrate all the birthdays that month.  We will probably take close to a week off then. The highlight of yesterday was when Belle remarked again about how fun school is this year with the Sonlight core we are doing.  I am so pleased!  I have also come to a decision not to push her on in Saxon math next year.  I plan to take a year off and do something else that hopefully will build her confidence with numbers and math facts.  The plan (subject to change, of course) is to continue with Saxon the following year.  Now I have some research to do to find an alternative.  I don't want to repeat Saxon 3 because she does understand lots of it, and I don't want to be bored either.  Time to try a different approach. Time to get breakfast and start our day.

You won't need to repeat Saxon 3. Saxon 54 is SOOO much review. I think the first half of the book repeats Saxon 3 topics.

Ugh. I am very glad we aren't doing any school this week, but I can see why you'd want to work ahead. I'm relishing every day of our break!

Link We do Saxon but we don't do the entire lesson. We focus on any new concepts and do a good amount of review but we do not do the meeting in 3rd grade which I personally don't find necessary. Like you, we don't do the entire 2nd sheet we just pick out the new stuff or what may need to be done a bit more. For drill sheets, I started having my kids do several a week online at the Saxon website instead of on paper they have really enjoyed doing that. And we also started the "Great Drill Race." I copy the drill sheet (especially the 100 or anything we have difficulty with, like 8 times tables) and we race to see who can do the best and we keep track on a chart on the wall. My 9 year old actually won one race because I made mistakes! LOL He was thrilled and more determined than ever.
