Jan. 14, 2009 - DA BUZZ

Guess what my sis got for Christmas? A Great Dane puppy!!! His name is BUZZ. He's so cute and we all love him! He is deaf, and that takes some getting used to, but Lane's been working on training him to hand signals and he's getting good at it! Here's some pictures...
Check out those blue eyes!!!:D
Lane and Buzz

How cute!!!!

Oh, and listen to this funny conversation I had with 4 yo Mayf while in the kitchen recently...

Mayf: "What's this?"

Me: "Glass cleaner"

Mayf: "What does it say on it?"

Me: "Um, 'Glass Cleaner' "

Mayf: "Oh. To clean glass?"

Me: "Yep!"

Mayf: "Oh... Meg?"

Me: "Yeah?"

Mayf: "Can I clean some glass?"

Me: "Um... sure!" I raised a brow and showed him how to clean to sliding glass door.

After awhile Mayf came back. "All done!"

"Good job! Here, put the glass cleaner in this cabinet."

He did. Then said, "Meg?"

"Hmmm?"

"Can I get it back out and clean some more glass? The other side is still dirty."

"Well, sure!" I get it back out and give it back. After awhile he comes back. I say, "You done?"

Mayf: "Yup." He puts the bottle back in the cabinet.

Me: "Does it look good?"

Mayf: "Nope. The Glass Cleaner's got all gone before I was done."

Me: "Oh."

The birds twitter for about two minutes.

Mayf: "Meg?"

Me: "Yeah?"

Mayf: "Can I help you make cookies?"

Me: "Sure."

I made this picture of him recently... it totally matches his little personality! Han Solo all the way!!!:P

Dec. 31, 2008 - What on earth came over him?

My deep apologies to all for not being on more often!!! This Christmastime was SOOOOOOOOOO busy - yet so much fun!!!!! Yet surprisingly this is not what I am here to post about.

My character, Domevlo the Wizard, suffered a lot of neglect this season, what with me being a busy bee. He decided he needed a place to hang out with other characters and whine, cry, laugh, post parts of his story, and get advice from. So he went and made himself a blog!!!!! Yes I'm serious. He wants everyone's characters to come and join the blog so he can talk to them! I don't know WHAT came over him, but somehow I got volunteered for the upkeep of the blog. And here it is: www.homeschoolblogger.com/figments

On behalf of Domevlo - join up! PM me and I'll get your character in there to talk to Domev and everyone else's characters! Maybe we might get some fun out of this... even though no authors are allowed.

Dec. 6, 2008 - "Even I'm eatable. But that, dear children, is called 'cannabalism' and it is frowned upon in most societies."

Tagged by my best friend in real life, Poetic Maiden!!!!

The Author Tag

Do you have a pen/pencil collection? Yes indeed. In a Broncos cup. Beside my compy.

Do you prefer handwriting or typing furiously? Typing furiously is what does it for me

How often do you get inspiration? Ummm... that's really impossible to answer, because the times are so random. Sometimes everyday, sometimes weeks

Are you blogging this on a computer or laptop? Compy. My compy's name is Plaxico Burress

Do you get inspiration more in the early morning or late at night? NIGHT!!!!!!!

Do certain movies/books/music inspire you? LOTR. POTC. SW sometimes. Random books for no reason. HANS ZIMMER!!!!!!!!! All the time every time!!!!!!

How do you incorporate God into your stories?  He sits beside me as I write and makes sure everything... smells like Him. He even has a spot on my bed to watch from! I don't usually do allegories, but I try to put Him into every word.

Do you kill off your villains or make them repent?  REPENT????? VILLAINS????? Are you kidding???? Are you nuts????? Oh, and KILL the VILLAINS????? Are you kidding???? Are you nuts???? I only sometimes kill my villains (it's almost chliche I think) and I NEVER repentize them!!!!

Is the majority of your characters magical beings, humans or halflings? Or something else?  Mostly humans. I tend to relate a lot to them. But I do have some pretty neat Wizards.

What genre of writing are you most comfortable in? If you were to step out of your comfort zone, what would you write?  Fantasy is comfy as a fleecy couch. But if it was burned... modern fantasy. Doesn't count? Ok... Sci-Fi. Or Historical Fic, but probably not at all Historical Fic.

Do you work better alone or with someone else? I work alone generally.

Do your stories make sense, or do they ramble wildly?  Sense? *dies laughing*

Are your characters mostly Renegades, Peacekeepers or a mish-mash?  RENEGADES!!!!!!!! I luv em!!!!!

Are you a sucker for good grammar?  Eh, couldn't care less.

How is your handwriting?  I don't use it - I don't know

.

How evil are your villains?  Depends. I have one book where he's a bad lot, and one where there really is no villain at all - it's good vs. good.

Are you long-winded or succinct?  To the point. All the time.

Do you have typical "writer" traits such as inkstains on your fingers or a pencil behind your ear?  Negative

.

Would someone walking past you on the street consider you normal?  I... guess??? I've never really seen myself walking down the street, so I dunno.

Do you write mostly poetry, stories, novels or a mixture?  Novels

Do your characters vary in accents, appearence and attitude or are they mostly the same?  No accents really, appearance is quite different, as are attitudes.

Do real people and/or places inspire your writing?  Forests. Any forest.

How many blogs/websites/internet haunts do you have?  Here, my normal life blog, Read it Reviews, daily devos, EowynDernhelm shares Precious Gems with me, and... I know there's another one.

What is your favorite character? Or do you choose to remain unbiased in case of a revolt?  Domevlo. Because my last favorite revolted:(

Do you talk to your characters? Do they talk back?  Yes. And they talk back too much. One of the reasons I stopped writing my old favorite *shudder*

Are you more comfortable with girl or boy main characters?  GUYZ

Do you follow basic overused plotlines with new twists thrown in or do you depart from the norm all the time?  I dunno, I guess some of each.

Do you feel God has called you to be a writer/poet? Will you grasp "the power of the pen"? You bet!!!!!! As of right now, I grasp it!!!!

Nov. 29, 2008 - Thanksgiving Stuff!!!

Hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving Day!!!! We had a great time! In fact, because everyone is sooooooo interested (heheh:P) I'll break it down for you! AND add some cool pictures too!!!!!
First, the guys got up and made us amazing breakfast! Cheesey eggs, bisquits and gravy, waffles, turkey sausage and bacon, and all kinds of yummy stuff!!!! It was real good and the guys did great!!!
We watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Some of that was pretty fun - Arkansas had a marching band there and David Archuleta sang!
Then we got all the Christmas stuff out in the midst of a boring and annoying Detroit football game. We set up the tree...
and puppetized some nutcrackers:P...
Then Sticks decided to try and put the angel up top of the tree.

For the record, here's a math equation that all should memorize:

12 year old male + fully decorated Christmas tree + couch = not good thing
He knocked the tree over and came down with it.

It was funny until we had to clean up 4 broken glass balls. BUT, the tree stands as I type - Taggs are NOT to be defeated by a combination of destructive persons and greenery!!!:P Presently we all headed over to the cousins' house in Colorado Springs!!! Aunty Mich made AWESOME food like this:

YUM! It was so yum! And guess what? My aunt doesn't cook! But now she is a pro turkeyer!!!!:D

Some of us had some fun on the trampoline...

(This is a totally cool pic or the totally cool cuz Potato doing a totally cool flip)

and some of us watched the stinkin Dallas game and played Madden.

(Dad and Mace. Dad won! Hahahahahaha!)

Here's the entire Thanksgiving gang! A weensey smaller than usual... it's minus Grandma and Grandpa (in FL), Unc Steve (in TX), and the Post gang (somewhere... not in CS:P)

All in all, it was one of the funnest Thanksgivings we've ever had! Hope everyone else had a great day (like us), had a lot to be thankful for (like us), had a lot of great food (like us), and that at least someone was happy with the outcome of the football games (not like us):P

"He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God." ~ Psalm 50:23

PS 4 future note: If you ever tag me and for some reason I do not do that tag, it is not because I don't like you or don't care about being tagged - I like being tagged! Just sometimes I don't have time to do them all the time

Nov. 10, 2008 - A Random Part of my NaNoWriMo story that I felt like posting

Ladies and gents, I am officially NOT going to get 50,000 words this month. It is a sad realization, but I am just too busy this month, I haven't been feeling too good, and it's not going to happen. But, it has been fun trying and no matter how many words I get, I can still enjoy them and be glad that I did them. Can I do it? No. I cannot. But I will meet it in battle nonetheless. I'm still going at it, I just know my own abilities:)

BUT I am having fun with my story! Here's a random part I post here, don't take my stuff without my permission, blahblahblah.

Hey, here's the link to my totally cool playlist: http://view.playlist.com/11080693771/standalone

It's quite neat, listen to "Waters of Irrawaddy" (close to the middle) while Domev's in the forest, then the next one, "The Gravel Road" when he finds the tree with the name!

When there was nothing left to see of Sephas, Domevlo sat with his back against a large tree. Surely, surely his power could be used for good, and not evil. But what was he to do with his power anyway? He had been sitting so still that a rabbit jumped out in front of him. Domevlo decided this would be a good time to test his Magic. He willed the rabbit to come to him, and reached out an inviting hand. The rabbit continued to sniff around in the dry leaves. Domevlo took a deep breath and reached deep inside himself. He tried to feel the magic within him, and then reach out to the rabbit. The animal did not come – it was lifted off the ground, then sent scampering into the forest, more frightened than it had ever been in its life. Domev sighed and leaned back against the tree, running a hand through his dark, tangly hair. It suddenly occurred to him that he would need shelter if he were to stay here; and he got up and walked deeper into the forest, exploring his surroundings. The forest was not as he had always imagined it – tangly, dense, thorny, and thick with pests and poisonous plants. There were various paths and trails leading into separate parts of the wood where the trees and vines stayed away. The colored leaves blanketed the ground lovingly, and they made soft comforting crunching sounds as he walked through them. The fading afternoon light shone through the trees, and the small sound of the creeks filled the silence. Domevlo wondered why he had ever thought this place was ugly – then wondered why he should have thought it otherwise. He stopped walking. No one – not even Sephas – had ever been this deep into the forest before. What were the paths doing here? He knelt to his knees, cleared the leaves away and looked at the dirt. Yes, it had clearly been made on purpose, but unmistakably long ago.

A bird suddenly flew through the bushes, sounding loud in the quiet and startling Domevlo. He looked toward the sound at a large, ancient oak tree with vines tangling around it. There appeared to be some sort of marking on the tree, and Domev stood to his feet and walked slowly closer. He pulled the reluctant vines away from the tree, and saw that indeed, someone had scratched a name into its wood. After pulling more leaves away and rubbing at the bark a bit, he could make out the word, Jaya. There was more, but it had faded and he could not read it. But suddenly he felt… sad. He did not know why. There was sorrow in this word – this name. He ran a finger over the letters. There had to be some way to find out what the rest of this writing said. Maybe he would come back after he had learned more of his powers. He had to move on a build a shelter.

Domev had not wandered far before he stubbed his toe on something hidden in the leaves. Frowning, he knelt down and brushed the leaves aside. There was something partially buried there… it looked like an old shovel or something – mostly decayed. Overcome by a sense of curiosity just being in this place, he used his hands to dig at the moist dirt scratching it away to reveal the hilt of a sword. It was at least a century old, Domevlo was sure. He scooped at the soil, exposing not just a hilt, but a whole sheathed blade – very old, and very fragile. He very carefully, so as not to make the sheath crumble, placed a hand on the hilt and drew the sword. It was rusty and cracked, but there was some sort of writing on it. Domevlo brushed and scratched at the rust and dirt until he could see the word, “Tentalestah”.

The word made his heart beat faster, for just a moment. He had to say it aloud. “Tentalestah.”

The sun shined brighter at the sound of his voice, and a gusty wind began to blow. The sword began to tremble, and Domevlo dropped it as if his hands were burnt. There was something very strange about this place. When Domev looked back at the sword, he gasped. The rust began to disappear, and the blade glowed more brightly than any sword he had ever seen. But that was not what astonished him most. The nearest tree to the sword wrapped its roots around the blade and held it out to Domevlo. It was several minutes before he reached forward to take it, and when he did, the tree lowered its roots back into the ground. There was no doubt about it now – this forest was alive. Domevlo did not know why he was not frightened. He gazed at the sword in his hands – long, sleek, elegant, and shining as if it was brand new. He turned it over and studied the writing on it. There were small engravings all over the handle, but Domev did not know what they meant. When he got to the guard of the sword he saw a word he recognized quite well… “Domevlo”.

His mouth opened in awe. What could this mean? He looked up at the forest. It sat silently in calm assurance. It knew! It knew what this sword was! Domevlo was certain! “What is this?” He shouted into the silence. “What is going on? Who was here that left this sword? Why am I here?”

There was no answer. Domevlo felt another tear run down his cheek. Who had been there? The sword, Tentalestah, continued to shine in his hands. It seemed to invite him into his unknown destiny – or more accurately, force him into his unknown destiny. Domev’s eyes narrowed. What this sword had to offer - this destiny - he was not sure he wanted to have in his life. He threw the sword back at the tree and ran on further into the forest, putting as much distance between himself and Tentalestah as he could. When he dared look back, the tree was again hiding the sword in its rooty clutches.

So there's the junkityjunk. I am having fun TRYING NaNo. But it ain't gonna happen. Not this year anyway.

Here's the cover art I made for this story. Rough, but I like it for now.

Oct. 26, 2008 - When Taggs and Soccer Studs come together... this is how it's done.

First, background for those who have never been to an MLS game (that's soccer:0). When the players walk onto the field, they are holding the hands of these cute little kids that are wearing the home team's jersey. Ok?
So a couple weeks ago I hear that J-dude and Jess are invited to lead the Colorado Rapids onto the field in the playoff-spot-deciding game against Real Salt Lake. I was pretty excited, but J-dude was exciteder. When he first heard, he squeezed me real tight while SCREAMING quite loud, then plunked down on my lap and told me to find some cool Rapids videos to watch. The time finally comes... and excitement is in the air.
We show up early at the stadium where we meet up with the boys' extremely hyped teams. (BTW, their seasons just ended quite successfully) So we wait for a long time, then the boys are whisked away with my photographer dad who gets to be on the field and take pictures. Sticks and I get our free soccer balls (COOOOOL) and go to our special seats - in the bleachers behind the goal. But that's not cool until I say that the locker rooms for the teams are right off that part of the stadium and you get to stand there and high-five all the players as they come on and off. REALLY cool that we were early and KYLE BECKERMAN had nobody to high-five except us. And yes I did say KYLE BECKERMAN. But I'll say it again: KYLE BECKERMAN!!!!!!!! Dreadlocks himself!!!!! And yes he high-fived us cuz we screamed that he rocked as he walked by. The rest of Real Salt Lake pretty much high-fived us too, and that was awesome. Chris Wingert comes out and I whoop and hold out my hand, but he was already walking on the other side of the hall, so he just smiled and gave me a little wave. But I pouted and said, "Aw come on!" And... I suppose since I was so cute(:P) and all by my onesie he walked all the over to where I was to give me some skin. How sweeeeeet:P
But now warm-ups were over and I knew my boys would be coming out with them soccer players. Here's what they had been doing in the locker room, courtesy of my dad:
The cutest nutcases you'll ever see!!!

Yup, that's Kyle the BeckerMAN. He's too cool. In this one he's hittin Jess's hand in the light blue.

Then they come onto the field holding a Real Salt Lake player's hand!!!! I got video, but it's not here. But J-dude was holding Nat Borchers's hand (Denfender) and I'm not sure who Jess got. I was kinda bummed that they didn't get a player they knew on the Rapids, but it was ok. Here they were, courtesy of my dad, who had the wrong camera lens - hence the farawayness:

YAY!!!!

YAY some more!!!

Our National Anthem, which I was too busy getting in my seat and being excited to pay any attention to...:P

THEN...

They ran off. But the fun had literally just begun - the GAME was starting!!!! The only thing was that Christian Gomez didn't play, and he's my fave on the the Rapids. But it was ok. We were winning 1 to nuthin at the half, and I - heheh - wanted the Rapids to win, but I knew Real Salt Lake was awesome too. Sticks and I rushed to our spot to high-five players as they came back out. Snagged more Real Salt Lake guys. But the RAPIDS came out next!!!!!!! And even better... slowly!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tom McManus (yes the man himself) high-fives screaming girls with vigor. Terry Cooke and Colin Clark didn't even look at the twenty people yelling and holding out desperate hands:( But that was ok... cuz in everyone's disappointment, I looked up and saw coming down the steps... "GOMEZ!!!!!!!!!!" Yeah I hollered real good, and everybody else started up too. Christian Gomez kinda walked slow and didn't look at us a whole lot, leaning toward the far side where we couldn't reach him. But we yelled all the louder, and he smiled, shrugged and ran down the line again, high-fiving everybody. THAT was the coolest thing, cuz he rocks even more than Beckerman!!!! Ok, maybe not. Well - yeah he does!!!... Alright, it's a tie... no, I dunno... point is: they are both amazing and my hand was dripping with muy famousa soccer-player germs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was soooooooooooooo much fun!!!!!!!!

Hate to spoil things now... but the game ended at a tie and the Rapids needed a win to go to the playoffs, and... their season is done:( BUT that's ok!!!!! Because we had a big blast at the game, and got pictures, and free stuff, the boys got to keep their awesome light blue jerseys, and Sticks and I got to high-five awesome soccer guys. I bet God had fun watching us have all that fun - he tends to do that:)

Peace out!!!:D

Oct. 20, 2008 - It's really sad when sad things happen

LOOK at this picture!!!!! Lookatitlookatit!!!! Is THAT Peyton Manning??? The 6 foot 5, 235 pound QB with his own style and swagger??? The captain of my all-time favorite team??? It COULDN'T BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But it is. And why? He stunk it up and we lost to Green Bay. Personally I thought the refs more than 99% botched up the calls. Like a lot. But it was quite no-good.

But here is a tag I took from EowynDernhelm!!!

1. Put your iTunes or music player on shuffle
2. For each question, push the Next button to get your answer.
3. You MUST write that song name down no matter what!!!

Oct. 14, 2008 - Don't be stupid - it's not smart

The New York Giants - my dear, sweet, undefeated pets - my Superbowl pick - my darlings in the NFL... have been tragically ofted. Much mourning at my house last night. They made some stuipid plays, the Browns played shockingly well, and poor Eli just.... malfunctioned. I think he was in pain - got hit pretty hard at the beginning and had his shoulder looked at. That would be one excuse for 3 picks and some fumbles. It was heartbreaking. I cried a few tears of frustration and dissapointment. I had told everybody that they were going 16-0.

There is one and one only good thing about all this: Peyton can be known as the best Manning again because Eli's not invincible *sob*.

Oh, my undefeated champs! I miss you so! And it's only been one day since I saw you, and I will never see you the same again... until next season.

Poor Eli

Now, to cheer me and everybody up - one of many funny Manning commercials!!!

That'll do it... maybe. Hey here's another one while I'm at it... this one has been playing a lot. I call it, "Fate". It is Tomlinson and Polamalu. They grow up, then meet in 1 minute. I think it's neat - it makes you smile anyway.

Oh yeah! I got tagged by Storyteller!!! Cooooooool.

Oct. 2, 2008 - Chapter 6

(NOTICE: All names, places, and events are likley to change, however and whenever I want because it's my story and it's still one big rough draft:P My stuff is also Copyrighted©, but if you wanna use it for something, just ask me, I'll probably say ok!)

What Huntram had said about traveling faster with a single rider per horse was true. So upon finding the next, and probably last village they would find in the Golden Hills, they took advantage of the opportunity to stock up on food supplies and look for two more steeds. But they could not go in undisguised, for they could not afford to have anyone identify them to their enemies. "I doubt Bangor’s scouts know any particulars concerning us," Dorthain had said. "But we don't want to give them any… correct clues." With a little of his skill, trouble, and exasperated language, Trojan and Huntram became the dark-skinned slaves of some fine, rich master, looking for horses that were only the fastest and best. After they had gone, a hunched over, infirm old man and his hooded little grandson tottered into the marketplace. Rumors of the Unhuman had spread far and wide, and Adrian was aware of many suspicious eyes that targeted the strangers.

Bread, fruit, and dried meat were purchased without complications, except for when Adrian had unconsciously almost used a little magic to pick up a gold piece he had dropped before a sudden cough from the old man stopped him short. Adrian was certain some one would try to stop them from leaving the little village, and it was all he could do to restrain his feet from keeping time with his beating heart. As soon as they approached the gate, a voice called, "Hullo thar!" Adrian whirled about and beheld a plump woman standing outside her cottage, wiping her floury hands on her apron. "Ye two be visitors, no?"

"We're just passing through madam." Dorthain replied in such a croaky voice that Adrian was surprised.

"Ye received a lil’ hostility up thar in th' market I s'pose." She took off her apron and hung it on a nail. "Folks 'round here are mighty wary of strangers nowadays. They say monsters are thicker than weeds in Johnny Bottomers's corn patch, an' dey's lookin fer two men an' two lads travlin' cross country. 'Nonsense' I says. But I'm fergettin manners! Would ye two like to come on inside an' have a little hot tea?"

Adrian was stunned. Impossible that Bangor could've gathered that much information concerning them! He sensed that Dorthain was equally shocked. "Your kindness is extraordinary, madam." The old man said. "But we'd best be moving on and set your peoples' minds at rest." Adrian was glad he did not comply to her request just to appear inconspicuous. The boy did his best not to look about as they too slowly left the town. Dorthain only stopped hobbling and threw off his disguise when they reached the hiding place where the horses were waiting. "Adrian! This is impossible! Somehow we are discovered! Wha- foolish boy, take off that ridiculous hood and listen to me! I do not know if we can keep traveling with Trojan and Huntram. The enemy is looking for four men, not two. They have little to do with the quest as is. We must leave and no longer travel on the road."

Adrian did not think well of the idea. Leaving Trojan and Huntram? "Dorthain, how can we do this alone? Trojan protects me well, and my brother is a much better fighter than I." Dorthain turned to him and opened his mouth, but Adrian continued before he could speak. "When you say that we must separate, you speak the truth. Maybe the two of us should ride separately anyway. That way if Trojan and I got ambushed and I was killed, there would still be a chance to destroy Bangor through the White Magic in you. And besides," Adrian spoke quickly. “If we leave them, we won’t know where they are, and then… then we may never see them again when we have completed our mission.”

Dorthain did not speak for a moment, just looked at Adrian with something in his eyes that could have been pride mixed with a hint of sorrow. "You have become… wiser, Adrian Shaster. What you say is good. We shall keep them with us. However, I cannot separate myself from you - as the keeper of White Magic. I protect you with my life and death and you do not leave my sight until the White Magic takes some other form."

"And when will that be?" Adrian questioned. "Why can't we change it back into the Dagger now?"

"Now you are easier to protect than a dagger. A dagger could just slip out of a sheath and fall somewhere unknown. But when we reach Angtanthul it will be changed back. At that accursed place daggers are much easier to preserve than... anything alive." The hint of a mournful look still stayed in Dorthain’s face.

That was when Adrian realized that they were going to their deaths. He had never considered the end much, but now that he had gotten his first look, he wasn’t sure he wanted to go on. He did not know why he had not realized this before. "Will we stay alive Dorthain? Will we get in?" Adrian turned to stroke Amon to hide a hopeless tear. "Why don't we have an army? Is it because there is no hope?"

Adrian felt an arm over his shoulder. "No," said Dorthain. "It is not because there is no hope. Even if we conjured up thousands of men, it would be of no avail. There is no way we would be able to avoid the eye of Bangor. Sneakiness is our only option. And I am sure we will get in. White Magic is by no means inferior to Black. What I don't know is what will take place after we get in."

To his own surprise, Adrian leaned against the old man. "Why did you choose me, Dorthain?"

The old man looked down. "The White Magic chose you, not I. But I knew I could trust you when I knew it’s choice."

"How could you trust me? I was only a baby!" But before Dorthain could answer, Trojan and Huntram returned with two fine ponies, one white and one copper. The two looked pleased with themselves. "The best to be had!" Trojan declared. "They are not war horses, but they are not plow horses either."

"No time for rejoicing Trojan. The enemy knows more than we thought. We will travel one more day together, then split up and travel off the road. We must leave immediately," Dorthain said. Huntram hurriedly pressed the reins of the skittish white horse into his brother's hand and rushed about in preparation for another ride along with everybody else. Adrian stroked his protesting pony and whispered some elvish words he had learned. “Ha laer eosa oahnamd" "I am a friend" She immediately calmed down and seemed to realize that she would be treated well. "The name Saira will suit you nicely." He was called out of his elvish moment by Trojan's voice calling, "Adrian! Up and away! We are ready!" The boy leaped into the saddle and again had to again reassure to horse of his good intentions to keep the unbroken creature from bucking him off. She did not do so, but felt uncomfortable. Adrian continued speaking to her. It would help his elvish, as well as calm his steed. Huntram had told his brother of the conversation he had had with Trojan about the coming of an elf friend, and Adrian was excited to learn that his study of the elvish language would prove useful. He had picked up on it faster than even he had expected! His horse easily kept up with Trojan and Dorthain’s war horses. She moved like the wind! So far it seemed as if Adrian had had good fortune in all his endeavors, despite their uncertain ending. But he had not faced one of the Unhuman before.

Huntram fell back behind the two men and Adrian trotted up alongside him. "We haven't gotten a chance to talk in awhile." He said.

Huntram grinned the old farmboy grin. "I was just thinking the same thing." He nodded toward Trojan and Dorthain, who were conversing together over serious matters no doubt. "Neither have they."

The younger boy said casually, "I like my horse. Where did you get them?"

"A merchant from the City of the King was in the town. It took a lot of talking, but we finally did get them for a reasonable price. Mine is named “Oleern”. It means flame! He is wonderfully strong. Don’t you think it fitting?"

"It is." Adrian replied, glancing at the horse’s sleek, red side. "My horse’s name is “Saira”. It is very pretty.”

"Yes, it is," Huntram said. "But if she were mine, I would call her “Gihvn Erlethan”. You know what that means."

White Magic. Adrian winced. The White Magic was causing a lot of trouble to him so far. But all he said was, “If I gave her that name I would not be able to say it quickly if we were in a hurry. And White Magic is something I say too often for it to be the name of my horse."

"Yes, I suppose that's so." Huntram said. "It is amazing that you can use the Magic so well already. I can't do much with it. How did you learn it so quickly?"

Adrian shrugged. "It's not very hard. It seems like I was made to know it. Magic is like a... living tool with a will that can be bent to yours. If you study its use, what it is capable of, and the very nature of it, you are able to do more than start a fire or levitate a rock. The elves know it more than any race ever did! It is said that they set the rules of magic and told it what it could and could not do. I don't know if I believe that though."

Huntram smiled. "Well, at least you know it well enough to knock an Unhuman off its feet if you should run into one."

Adrian sobered. "I don't know if I could."

Huntram was surprised. "You've knocked out everything from a bird to a wild boar for Dorthain this past week! Why should the Unhuman be any different?"

Adrian looked uncomfortable. "It’s not - well… it shouldn't be. I could knock out almost anything I tried I think. But... I'm not brave."

"Still? The whole “not brave” thing? Adrian, you are a talented magician and an accomplished swordsman. If anything they should fear you!"

     "But I am not strong."

"In body, perhaps not. And They are. But you are strong in mind, and They are not."

Adrian looked at his brother in slight surprise. Dorthain had often told him that he had a strong mind. But was that the power to stand before a monster of a man? He didn't think so. And Huntram never would have said anything like that back at the farm. He was getting a sense of honor and growing into this business. Adrian could tell.

Comment and tell me what you think!

Also, I would like suggestions for a title to this book. I want something mostly unused, origanal, short, catchy, and not like your average fantasy books (AKA - The Dragon and the Raven). Come on all you smart people!!! I'm very title picky, and if you think of something I like, you probably deserve to be honored if I ever get this book farther than my computer (doubtful).

Sep. 22, 2008 - Chapter 5

Here's a long chapter!!!

(NOTICE: All names, places, and events are likley to change, however and whenever I want because it's my story and it's still one big rough draft:P)

"No, turn your wrist." Trojan looked like a warrior with his smooth, straight blade that was instead of shiny silver, a dull blackish color. Huntram sighed, turning his own blade into an upright position. It was a shorter sword, and very used, but Trojan said it was a good sword. Huntram supposed it was, though he really didn't know the difference between a good and bad sword. It was sharp, even if it was scratched and he should be happy to have it. "Block!" Trojan was saying.

Block. Block. Stay alive. Stay alive. After a few clumsy moves Huntram missed Trojan’s blade and received a smart thump on the leg with the flat of his opponent's sword. "Ow!" He heard a mocking laugh from his brother, who received a glare.

Huntram Shaster decided that he did not like sword fighting.

Dorthain’s gray eyebrows met in a frown and he shook his head in disapproval. "Anticipate the movements. Trojan has used the same attack on you for the last five rounds." The boy nodded, and turned to see how Adrian was holding up. Surely he was doing even worse. Huntram was nearly startled out of his skin when he saw his wimpy little brother leaping nimbly about, parrying Dorthain’s complicated, yet slightly slowed attacks and intermittently putting in some of his own! Dorthain looked pleased with him. What had happened to the Adrian that Huntram had known? Apparently he had disappeared when Dorthain came into his line of sight. His brother seemed entranced with the old man. Watching Adrian fighting with skill impossible for one who had learned one hour ago, Huntram viewed him with a new respect. That miniature eleven-year-old surely had a core of destiny in him. Adrian didn't want to go to Angtanthul; he was afraid. But here he was; learning to fight and preparing himself to defend the magic he held within him. Huntram should accept this new life too. Holding his sword in an attacking position, he lunged at Trojan, parrying and attacking. If Adrian could do it, so could he.

“Concentrate on your subject. Try to think like it is thinking” Dorthain instructed Adrian. The boy stared at the fox hiding in the bushes. “I am concentrating.” He whispered.

“Now feel the White Magic. Grasp it.” Adrian stared, seeing nothing for five mintues, unaware that his eyes were glowing an electric blue.

Huntram had failed at this step. He had tried and tried, but could not feel the White Magic. Not at all. Dorthain had not pressed the subject – he said that either you had the gift of Magic in you, or you did not. Huntram just didn’t. But Adrian WAS White Magic. Presently he said, “I feel it.”

Dorthain nodded. “Good. Now concentrate on the fox and the magic at the same time.”

Adrian sat, unmoving for two minutes. “All right.”

“Now call the fox to come to you.”

Huntram waited for his brother to say something, but he did not. He was still just staring. Confused, Huntram looked at the fox. The animals ears pricked up and didn’t seem to raise any sort of question in its mind – it just walked quietly to Adrian, obeying unspoken orders perfectly. Huntram couldn’t speak – his mouth wouldn’t shut.

Adrian seemed awed at what he had done as he carefully stroked the animal. Dorthain looked pleased. “That’s enough, tell the fox to run along.”

“Go about your business.” Adrian whispered to the fox. It happily scampered away.

“You see?” Dorthain said. “The Magic is in you strongly. But you cannot make everything obey you.”

Adrian rose from his knees and brushed off his pants, proud of himself. “Do you suppose – if we meet Them, that is – do you think I could use it to ask the Unhuman to just… go away?”

Dorthain shook his head without hesitation. “No, you couldn’t. The Black Magic is too strong in their minds.” Adrian had suspected that. Dorthain quickly shifted back to business. “Alright, let us scurry! Pack up, clean up, and we’re off!”

The daily ritual for Huntram, Adrian, Dorthain, Trojan, and the White Magic consisted of waking at the crack of dawn, riding until suppertime, sparring with swords or practicing Magic, then sleeping covered in their cloaks. While they were still in the Golden Hills, everything was green and birds twittered in the trees. The travelers could sleep out in the open and make fires to cook their food most of the time. They could all call Dorthain by his true name, as no person was ever within a hundred miles. It was almost Autumn, the breeze was cool and pleasant, and the boys became strong and tanned. Over the course of a few weeks, Trojan announced that they "would be able to survive a fight for a time".

On a particularly fine morning, Adrian was just shoveling in a quick breakfast before the day's ride, Huntram was rolling up his blankets, and Trojan was loading packs of essentials onto his horse. Dorthain looked out on the land. "Two more days of hills, then we ride through the Plains of the West. After a month or more’s ride and we should be in the City of the King. Adrian, take the leaves off of that tree and form them into some  shape." Such demands were not rare these days, since Adrian could use magic. Huntram didn't understand how anyone could truly learn it. It was so complicated, so unearthly, so...unrealistic. But his brother had mastered it, for here he was, knitting up his brows as a wind came through the trees and gently stripped the tree of it's leaves. The leaves drifted closer, never hitting the ground, and each went into its place and formed the image of a life-sized man - their father. Huntram laughed, surprised that he could tell who it was, but the merriment was turned to pain at the reminder of the farmer that had always loved them. The boys wondered simultaneously if they would ever see him again. A month’s ride, Dorthain had said. Maybe after that time they would go and find their parents - if they lived to get out of Angtanthul. Huntram brushed away the thought and walked to the horse, preparing to gallop again. He wasn't so prepared to enter the city of the king though. "At least here in the hills nothing ever happens." Huntram thought. The comforting notion was soon interrupted by Trojan's shout of, "Look out!" and the metallic “SHING” of a sword leaving its sheath. Huntram whirled his head around towards Trojan - and it was what saved his life. He had unconsciously dodged a swing from one of Them – one of the Unhuman. It was a huge, deadly creature with a man's body, except almost twice the size and more muscular. He instinctively raised his sword to block the next attack. He met the blade of his enemy in time to parry the next blow. But the force with which the Unhuman struck was enough to knock Huntram onto his back. He quickly rolled to avoid a stab with the end of the weapon. It was more horrific and terrible than any weapon he had ever seen! The boy was on his feet in a twinkling and struggling to stand firm as the Unhuman clashed at him. He had to hold off the attack for a few seconds that felt like hours before Dorthain and Trojan came to his aid. Dorthain took the offensive side; of course, meaning to do no harm while Trojan gave the creature a hard buffet on the head that knocked him senseless. Everyone inwardly sighed in relief. "Mount the horses at once! Leave no trace of the fire. We must away! Where there is one, there are always more." Dorthain was already saddling Amon the horse while Huntram rushed to extinguish and scatter the fire. He noticed Trojan looking at the unconscious Unhuman being out of the corner of his eye. He had a mournful expression and distant attitude. His comrade must be looking for any evidence of his father in that terrible face. But no. One Unhuman's face was as impossible to decipher as another's. Huntram finished distributing dead leaves over the fire and leaped onto Trojan's horse, Nell. By now, Dorthain and Adrian were upon Amon as well, and all were looking at Trojan. "Come lad!" came Dorthain’s almost frenzied yell. "Now!" Trojan seemed to snap back

into the real world and hastened to mount Nell, jostling Huntram. "Sorry!" they both called, as Amon bolted ahead. Trojan whispered a command to Nell. "Onward! We ride!" After the horses were safely galloping away from the area, Huntram asked him, "Are all the Unhuman like that?"

     "Like what?"

"Well… huge. And strong." the boy innocently questioned.

“Yes. They are all huge and strong.” Trojan’s voice was tight.

Huntram gulped. “We might need some help if we run into a group of them.”

“We have the Magic. It can save Them.” No one said anything for some time, until

Trojan almost flippantly mentioned, “and we will have help meeting us soon.”

     Huntram was surprised. “What? Who?”

Trojan’s face became a confusing mixture of pride, anticipation, sorrow, and joy as he answered, “Brithil Kir. The elf princess of Westdell, the Land of Silver.”

“The princess of Westdell! An elf! Really! I never thought it! Do you know her?”

     “Yes.”

Huntram figured that he shouldn’t have expected Trojan to expound upon that. “Are they as beautiful as tales say? Elves, I mean?” Huntram couldn't wait to tell Adrian this news. They had both always wanted to meet one of that noble race.

"Yes... they are." was all Trojan said.

Huntram cleared his throat, and felt a sudden need to change the subject. "Trojan, shouldn't Adrian and I get our own horses?” he felt Trojan’s eyebrows rise. "I mean, you know how you and I always bump into each other and can never make a very fast getaway. It's not very comfortable with two, and I know enough about horses to know that they go faster with one rider."

Trojan seemed to consider it. "I'll speak to Dorthain." he said. After a moment in

which the only sound was the rapid galloping of the horses, the quiet man said, "I must tell you that you did very well against that Unhuman. Avoiding freezing in fear is not something mastered easily." Praise from Trojan was not something to come by every day! Huntram felt his chest rise with pride.

Sep. 10, 2008 - Stupid is as stupid does

Now only a few of you on here know me personally. So to most of yall, this is who I am:

But in real life - I look nothing like that at all!!! I figured it was almost deceitful to have this as my image(), so I'm giving you folks a look at the REAL Outlawed Princess! (drumroll)

Okay, so that wasn't it. I just had to do it once. Ok, so here we go.... *again with the drumroll*

Dissapointed? You should be!!! That's the "going-to-the-zoo-let's-keep-up-a-good-image" me. THIS is the "hanging-around-the-house-watching-football-while-everybody-else-is-asleep" me!!!

So, I hope you're satified that I let you in on the big secret - I ain't Liv Tyler. Now my gorgeous image is gone. You should admire my bravery!!!!:P

Whoever's allowed should put their picture on their blog so we all know what everybody looks like. Maybe I'm just too curious, but I'm dying to know what a few people on here look like!!!
