New Co-op Forming for Fall ‘07
for Shawnee & Surrounding CommunitiesC-FESTChristian Families Educating and Serving Together C-FEST is a co-op of Christian home schooling families, committed to serving one another by using our unique gifts, abilities, and educational backgrounds to educate our children. It is our desire to honor God by lightening the individual load of the parent (bearing one another’s burdens), while augmenting the learning that is already taking place in the home.
TEACHERS: Of course, this co-op will not be successful without willing teachers. The more teachers, the lighter the individual load. No one needs to be an “expert in their field”. It’s much more important that they love what they’re teaching!
Nursery/Pre-school: There will be childcare provided for those who have older siblings enrolled in the Enhancement and/or Upper Level Classes. This will be staffed by parents.
Enhancement Classes: These classes will be for children in kindergarten through fourth grade. The focus of these classes will be to supplement core skills with fun, extracurricular-type classes. Some of the offerings might be things such as: Math Fun, Hands-On Science, Library Book Club, Music and Art.
Core/Upper-Level Classes: These classes will be designed for fifth grade and up. Exact classes offered will depend upon teacher availability, but it is our goal to provide at least one class for each core area (Math, Science, History, and Language Arts) per grade level. In some instances, it will be possible to combine grade levels, such as a 5th & 6th grade history course. Upper-Level Classes will be for a grade, and weekly assignments will be given. Parental support and supervision will be absolutely necessary.
Curriculum: The C-FEST leadership team has chosen to use the Apologia Science and the Math-U-See for the Upper-Level Science and Math courses. Other curriculums will be chosen on a per-class basis by the individual teacher (in conjunction with the leadership team).
Families: Every family in C-FEST is required to have at least one parent on “campus” during class hours. To be a part of the co-op is to commit to volunteer in several different areas of service throughout the school year, chosen by the individual/family. Each family will need to earn a minimum number of “points” to fulfill this commitment. A list of possibilities and preferences will be provided.
Proposed Schedule: Classes will take place every Monday or Tuesday (TBD), during the regular school year.
Proposed Fees: There will be a $25 registration fee per family prior to the school year (tentatively June 1). The monthly fee of $25 per family will be due by the first of each month, and will cover liability insurance, utilities, supplies, etc. Any extra class fees to cover additional supplies, copies, etc. will be minimal & will be decided upon by the individual teacher to be paid on a per-semester basis.
