MAY-JUNE 2009
The annual PCHEA planning meeting . . .
Monday, June 1st , at the Shawnee Library.
Watch your emails for more information, but put the date on the calendar. This is your opportunity to be a part of planning what PCHEA will be doing next year. I encourage you to participate in the coming email survey and then come to the planning meeting to help get your ideas going. It is of great benefit when we can come up with activities and field trips and then have members who can work together in coordinating that event present to take it on.  Remember the more people help out the more the group can offer.

Hello PCHEAs,
I am so excited that Will and Nancy Schwab are interested in becoming the new Coordinators for PCHEA. I have known the Schwabs since shortly after they moved here. They are an energetic couple who are serious about having a godly home and
training their children to serve the Lord. They are dedicated to homeschooling and have been increasing their leadership responsibilities since moving here. This last year, in addition to planning a field trip and putting together the awards
banquet, Nancy has done a fantastic job keeping the Mom’s Night Outs going. She has had topics relative to homeschooling and training our children ready each month. I truly
believe their willingness to take on this role is an answer to prayer. No one else has expressed interest in the role so unless anyone has any objections they will be officially introduced as the new leaders at the awards banquet this Monday, May 18th. Following is their profile for leadership. If anyone has any ideas, questions, or
concerns you can email me.
Many blessings,
Fredrick and Jeri Akin, current coordinators

Hi everyone,
We are the Schwabs and we would like to serve in leadership of PCHEA for the next term. We moved to Oklahoma from California 3 years ago. Will and I have been married for 15 years and have 4 awesome kids. Leah is 9 and loves arts and crafts and every living thing, Olivia is 6 and is an active girl, loves being silly, Dean is 3 and is "all boy" playing cowboys and army man, Audrey is 6 months and is a happy go lucky girl, so far.

We came to Oklahoma to have a lifestyle where Will could be more involved in the kid's lives and do some things he dreamed about, but could never do in California, such as buying rental homes and fixing them up. We are in the midst of fixing up a
home of our own with a little bit of land to start a mini farm on.

PCHEA has been such a blessing in our lives in many ways. We met some of our first friends out here through this group. I have enjoyed the wonderful emails telling me about field trips and book sales and various other interesting goings on.  What we love most about PCHEA though, is the people. You all are caring, hardworking, and fun people. It is awesome to see the outpouring of answers to a question on email, how you all gather around hurting families, and how encouraging you all are during the struggles of homeschooling.

Will and I would like to have the opportunity to serve as leaders in PCHEA. We would like to see this group continue to meet needs and challenges as we grow and change. We want PCHEA to be a blessing as it has been to us. It should be a place of encouragement and support so that families can be successful in their homeschool endeavors. With that in mind, we need to hear from you. In the coming weeks we will be asking you for your input via an email survey. Between now and then, please be thinking, praying and talking about how PCHEA could best support your family.  Think in terms of activities, resources and events that would enhance your
homeschooling experience.

We look forward to next year and to hearing from you. We'll be in touch.
Will and Nancy

Hello All,
This is really late coming....I have been so busy lately! I know we all are busy,
but I am so ready for summer break!!
As you all know it is that time again to bring new leadership to our group. I
am so excited that we have a wonderful couple like Will and Nancy to take over!
I know they will be great at the job!!
The treasurer job also needs to be replaced.  I have been treasurer for two years now and am ready for a break! It is really an easy job! The most difficult part is at the beginning of the year when we have the back to school fair. The treasurer collects the dues. Then you make the deposits and keep the books.  Please e-mail us if you think you could help out by taking over this job. I will be glad to help whoever takes over.
Thanks,
Kim VanBebber

Notes:

The Akins team and Teresa B. will work together in the supportive co-leader role for the upcoming year - Anyone interested in group leadership could take over this position next year as training for leader/coordinator.

Susan M. will have worked the newsletter two years this coming January. This is a non-leadership, continuous task with no specific term. If someone else is willing to do this, just say so and it’s yours.

PCHEA friends can order from Scholastic
catalogues during May and June. Call or
email Ivy Poe for a catalogue or info.

About PCHEA

PCHEA is an OCHEC affiliated support group. We are Christian in orientation and leadership, as are most of our members, but we do not exclude anyone on the basis of their beliefs. We are committed to home educators; to help each other accomplish our educational goals, to support one another in love, and to strengthen and promote quality home education in our area. We are diverse with families from all walks of life. Families in our group espouse various educational philosophies, use a wide spectrum of curricula and teach children at many levels, from pre-school through high school.
