We do not want anyone to not be able to play due to expenses. If this is truly a problem for your family please let me know and we will work on partial or full scholarships.

New players will need to purchase shirts, they run about $13 each. Hoodies are optional and run around $25-$30.

Bring a labeled (this is important since we have a lot of bottles laying around) water bottle to practice. There is not a water fountain.

We have had a great group of kids and families and anticipate the same this year. It has been a joy working with these players.

Parents and players are asked to read the code of conduct prior to the meeting and will sign off on it at the meeting.

Homeschool Excalibur Volleyball Code of Conduct

It has often been said that sports develop character, and this may be true, but more often sports bring out one’s true character.

As we play Homeschool Volleyball we are representing ourselves, our family, our community, and homeschoolers. In addition this is a Christian league and as your coaches we desire our team to represent Christ well. Individuals don’t have to be a Christian, but all are expected to abide by the Homeschool Volleyball and Excalibur rules and code of conduct.

Dress

   ·         For practice a T-shirt and for games a numbered Excalibur shirt with choice of shorts, pants or sweats to fit with dress code below.

·         Tennis shoes are mandatory and kneepads are very highly suggested.

·         At all times our dress should reflect good moral character through neatness and modesty.

·         Tight or short shorts, tight or sleeveless shirts, bare midriffs, and inappropriate advertising or words are not acceptable. No words across the back side of pants. Sweats and jeans are fine.

·         Shirts must be long enough that when hands are raised above your head no skin is showing.

·         Pants should have no tears or holes above the knees.

·         No jewelry, chains, metal belts, or caps allowed during play.

·         Players with long hair musst have it pulled back

 Conduct

  • Attendance at games and practices is a priority. Please arrange for timely arrival and pickup of athletes for practices and games.
  • All fees and payments must be paid in full by the assigned deadline unless other arrangements have been made.
  • No tobacco products or profanity (or words that are substitutes for, or can easily be mistaken as profanity) will be tolerated at practice or league.
  • Each player is expected to treat others with respect and courtesy both in speech and conduct. Since emotions can run high during sports, even playful pushing, shoving, etc. should be avoided.

 Gym

  • Please respect the facilities that we use for practices, scrimmages, and games. In case of damage the responsible player(s) or parents/guardians of players will pay for any damages.
  • Pink Baptist Church: we can use the gym, foyer, and restrooms. We have been asked not to use the kitchen since it is cleaned Thursday night.
  • After practice please make sure to pick up any trash and personal items leaving the gym in the same or better condition as when we came.

 Game Play

  • Any player regularly attending practices and has not been deemed ineligible by breaking the Code of Conduct will get a lot of play time during games.
  • Amount of game time will be decided on by the couch based on 1) Sportsmanship 2) Skill 3) Teamwork 4) Hustle 5) Attentiveness. Both in practices and games.

 Game Conduct

  • Be respectful to all authority: those running the league, referees, and line judges.
  • During games only two people can talk to the referee, the team captain or the coach. Others players may have the team captain or coach address their question. If parents have a question, they may ask the coach
  • Parents, players and coaches can not yell at the referees/line judges and/or complain about a call.
  • During a player’s serve, spectators should be respectful
  • Specific league/gym rules will be addressed prior to league

Interpretation and final decisions of this code will be at the discretion of the coach and league officials

Disciplinary action may range from loss of playing time to removal from the team.

Choir/Music Lesson Opportunities at OBU

Hello everyone!

I just saw Conchita Hansford (the director of the Preparatory Program at OBU), and she asked if I would pass along some information regarding upcoming music activities available to our youth here in the area.

First, the youth choirs (ranging from 2nd grade through HS) will be holding open auditions tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 21, and Monday, Aug. 24th, from 3-5 pm. There is no audition for 2nd or 3rd graders, and students in these grades may be registered over the phone. All auditions will take place at OBU in 141 Raley. If interested, please feel free to contact:

Conchita Hansford
Office: 878-2319

Second, there are still openings available for private lessons in a wide range of instruments (piano, voice, band and string, guitar, etc. Again, if you would like more information please contact Conchita. I know that some of the PCHEA families participate in these programs and have enjoyed them. Personally, I accompany the Shawnee Honor Choir (an auditioned choir for 4-6th grades, although there has been a range from 2nd through 7th, depending on the ability and level of the individual student), and have enjoyed being a part of the ensemble. Singing in a choir is an important part of musical growth for all children, and if your child likes to sing this may be a great activity for them.

Again, if you want to know more, contact Conchita (not me! :).

Best,
Dephanie

There will be a $15/family registration fee for one child, $20 for two children, $25 for three children and $30 for four or more children to help with start-up costs and supplies. At the end of the year, an Awards Banquet will be held where children can display some of the things they’ve done throughout the year. Christian Family Academy Open House

CHRISTIAN FAMILY ACADEMY OPEN HOUSE:  Monday, March 30, 2009.  CFA is a cooperative effort of homeschooling families, with the purpose of providing support and structure.  We use quality Christian curriculum, and desire to enhance the student's learning experience in a Christian environment.

If you would like to come, please email Amber Crawley.  You may come visit during the school day to observe classes in action and/or you may come in the evening for a brief time of Q &A, meet the teachers, and see examples of student's work.  The evening session will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

If you would like to receive a class catalog via email, please reply as such, or there will be catalogs available at the Open House.

Lastly, please forward this information to other homeschool support groups, or individual families that may be considering home education.  CFA is a wonderful ministry to those just starting out, who could use some extra support and encouragement.  But of course, this applies to "veteran" families as well :-)
Thank you,
