Editing

Suggestion for those who are self-publishing:
One of the first steps after you have written a book or curriculum is to get it edited. Every writer needs an editor.
Why is editing important? Publishing presents your professional image to the public. Errors in your writing--whether in a print book, e-book, newsletter, blog, or website copy--undermine your customers' confidence in you. If you can't get the details right, how do they know they can trust you in larger matters? Don't give customers a reason to toss your writing aside and turn to someone else.

Every book we produce is edited by someone outside our family. Yes, it is an expense, but worth every penny. Sending a book to the printer without editing first is like walking out your front door undressed.

I am starting my own home-based proofreading business. I've always had the knack to know when something doesn't look right, it just jumps out at me. It used to bother me that I spotted errors, but I finally decided maybe that could be a good thing if I put it to work. I'm no PhD, just a mom who teaches her own, and reads an awful lot.
