Editing Resources

A couple of weeks ago Laurie posted an entry about the importance of getting an outside source to edit any of your work.
I was just wondering how many of you offer editing services or would like to recommend an editor. I'd also like to know what kind of books or websites you all use in editing things. I recently asked the Managing Editor of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine about what book she uses as a reference. She suggested The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed..

So let us know what editing resources you recommend, use or provide.

I use my friend as editor
Before I submitted my first article to a magazine, I took it to my homeschool co-op. During my free hour I asked several friends to read and critique the article. Threee read it and said, "It's great". That was nice, but not helpful. One "bled" all over it. She was a photo-journalism major in college and had invaluable advice on my article. I took her advice and gave her a second draft to edit.
Now I ask her to edit everying before I submit it. She doesn't charge me anything. She does it because she loves to write, loves to be helpful and likes reading what I have to say! A nice kind of friend to have, huh?
