MOST WOMEN DESIRE AN OLD-FASHIONED LIFESTYLE

The New Harvest Homestead newsletter encourages Christian women to slow down and fulfill their dream of the simple life
Carlotta, CA, January 31, 2006 - In this tiny, rural hamlet that most people would have a hard time finding on a map, Lisa Vitello is busy feeding her flock of chickens, baking bread and canning jam. As a converted “city-girl” who was passionate about her adopted country lifestyle, Lisa decided to share her enthusiasm with other Christian women. In 2005, the New Harvest Homestead newsletter was born in order to do just that.
After her first child was born, Lisa wanted to learn how to make money by saving money in order to be a stay-at-home mom. She began to teach herself how to grow a vegetable garden, raise animals and preserve her own food. What began as an attempt to save money turned into a soul-satisfying way of life for Lisa and her husband, Guy. “I found out I was a country girl at heart”, she gushes.
When their third child was born, Lisa and Guy discovered homeschooling. It seemed to mesh beautifully with the home-centered, agrarian life they had come to love. But, as time went on, she began to notice a rather unsettling trend among her homeschooling peers. These moms seemed to be constantly on the go and only a hairsbreadth away from total burn out.
“What I saw were moms who were involved in so many different activities between homeschooling, church, errands, and all the other everyday things moms do, that many of them were hardly ever home. And these were ‘stay-at-home’ moms!” she exclaims. Lisa began to invite her friends to her home to learn some of the country skills she had mastered.
“I talked with moms who were yearning to slow down and live a simpler life, but they had little encouragement to do so from the culture around them. They thought being constantly busy was the norm and never questioned it. It was only as we began to meet together that they realized it was O.K. to want to be home most of the time”, Lisa shares.
After discovering a survey taken in 1997 by “Parents Magazine” in which the majority of young mothers 25 and under declared they would prefer the lifestyle of the 1950’s, Lisa knew she was on to something. “I wanted to reach those younger moms before they got on the merry-go-round of endless busyness and give them some inspiration for living a home-centered life”, she states. She likes to call it the homestead life, not only because it involves rediscovering old-fashioned skills, but also because the word homestead literally means “steadfast at home”.
The newsletter is published bi-monthly. Topics covered have included everything from raising goats to cultivating a quiet spirit. There is as much inspiration as there is instruction in every issue and one is left feeling like they have just been given “a warm hug from the Lord”, as one reader puts it.
If you want to take a step toward the simple life, be sure to visit the New Harvest Homestead website at www.newharvesthomestead.com and request a free introductory issue of New Harvest. It might just be the first step in your homestead life.

Those Homeschooling Only One Not Alone!
11:27 PM, Feb. 2, 2006, posted by
Fort Worth, Texas—February 3, 2006— The homeschooling community is not only composed of large-sized families but also with many families having only one child. These families face different challenges which have neither been voiced, nor addressed before. For many years there has been nothing available for those in this special segment of the homeschooling community. Not any longer! Donna Conner has written a book supporting those homeschooling families who only have one student, no matter in what context (first-, last-, only-, or grand-child). As Mary Hood, author of The Relaxed Home School states, Mrs. Conner’s book "...fits an often overlooked niche in the homeschooling world.” Homeschooling Only One has already sold in the last two years in at least half the states in the United States, as well as to South Korea via Military Post Office, to Canada, and to Australia.
This book not only gives an overview of homeschooling methods, but also looks at them with the viewpoint from one who has only one child. Mrs. Conner gives specific information about her own family’s homeschooling journey through their first nine years. Impressed with the book, Larissa McKay of Eclectic Homeschool Association (eclectichomeschool.org) told her readers, “Think of Homeschooling Only One as a diamond of the homeschool book world.” New homeschoolers, even those who have more than one child, may find a jewel in this book. Even support group leaders have found it helpful to better understand some of their members' perspectives. Chris Klicka, author, speaker, and Senior Counsel of the Home School Legal Defense Association, stated, “Donna shows that home schooling is the best way to teach your child and gives very practical tips on how you can capitalize on the strengths and benefits of teaching just one."
Families who have reviewed this book have been full of praise. One single mom in Texas, homeschooling a son while her daughter attends public school, shared, “Donna is at all times honest, personable, and down to earth. After reading her thoughts on this topic you will feel as if you’ve had a good long visit with an old friend over a cup of tea." While a Louisiana mom homeschooling her son wrote, “Homeschooling Only One is awesome, full of information! I wish I would have had access to a book like this when I first started homeschooling our only son. This book is good for anyone homeschooling an only child or even multiple children. The references are truly a treasure for anyone homeschooling."
This book, and the help Mrs. Conner offers through her website (donnac.com), merits your time and investigation. Homeschooling Only One is indeed a great asset especially for those with only one child, but can be a benefit to anyone in the homeschool community. Genuine support can be found there, also, where one can connect with others in this journey of homeschooling only.

Family Makes Hand Crafted Toys out of Natural Fibers

In pursuit of the simpler life, the Gunn family recently moved to Northeastern Vermont to expand their hand craft business and to farmstead.
Orleans, VT, February 3, 2006 – Peeking into the home of Natural Earth Farm and Fiber Studio on a wintry Saturday afternoon reveals Tonya, the mother, knitting; Michael, the father, cutting branches for blocks; and the five children scattered on the living room floor sanding blocks that will be used for a memory/matching game.
Natural Earth Farm and Fiber Studio began two years ago with a desire to provide quality toys that stimulate children’s imaginations using natural fibers. The business has expanded to include handwork supplies such as yarn and exclusive knitting kits.
The Gunn family enjoys praying, learning, and working together.
“Working and growing the business together has been part of the children’s education,” comments Tonya “They have learned about the importance of hard work, consistency, and prayer.” The Gunn family has educated their children at home since birth.
Their business can be found online at http://www.naturalearthfarm.com where they offer a free gnome knitting pattern. In addition they can be reached by telephone at 802/754-2697 or via email at naturalearthfarm @netzero.net.

New Book Teaches How to Cook, Systematically
____________________________________________________________________
A recently-published book, x + y = Dinner?: Taking the Mystery Out of the Cooking Equation, teaches cooking, step-by-step. It is the first book of its kind, systematically equipping home cooks to adapt, improvise, and cook without a recipe.
Gloucester, VA - January 31, 2006 -- A recently-published book is poised to change the lives of home cooks everywhere. Unlike any other cookbook on the market, x + y = Dinner?: Taking the Mystery Out of the Cooking Equation teaches people how to cook, step-by-step. Thousands of cookbooks provide cooks with recipes but, until now, none has equipped them to adapt, improvise, or leave the cookbooks entirely behind.
x + y = Dinner? addresses normal home cooks, not gourmet chefs. The author is familiar with busy lives and understands the desire to prepare healthy meals within a limited budget, and with a minimum of effort. The processes and recipes involved are practical and well-suited to the average American home.
x + y = Dinner? opens with a chapter about food and nutrition. This provides the foundation for healthy meal planning. The following three chapters address equipment, ingredients, and cooking methods, providing the
most elementary foundation for cooking. Twenty-three chapters about specific food categories follow, giving step-by-step instruction and information about ingredients and methods. Carefully selected recipes accompany each new technique, enabling the reader to practice. Recipes are also broken down and given as basic formulas. These formulas simplify the cooking process and make it seem far less overwhelming.
Chapters covering menu planning, grocery shopping, freezer cooking, an overview of food preservation, and creating homemade convenience mixes wrap up the main portion of the text. Appendices address substitutions, seasonings, and table settings, as well as other homemaking tasks - cleaning, laundry, and household management. Chapter questions and assignments are provided to make the text self-teaching and/or make lesson planning easy for homeschooling parents.
Learning to cook may have been overwhelming in the past, but with x + y = Dinner?'s step-by-step process, it is no longer intimidating.

Novices Can Now Build a Web Site--on a Shoestring Budget
St. Louis, Missouri, Feb. 2006 – Individuals who want to join Internet commerce now have a handbook that will show them how to get started on a shoestring budget. This e-book, Web Site ABC’s, was published last month by MotherboardBooks.com.
This book is for individuals who want to be part of an economic revolution that’s happening right under our noses. There are persons who put on sweats and flipflops to go to work. But in fact they are the CEO’s. The businesses they operate find their customers in far places, out on the Web. And that isn’t the only big economic change. Traditional jobs are becoming scarcer. For plenty of folks, the future at a company job just doesn’t look as assured as it once did.
For example, in St. Louis, there are at least two businesses that sell over the Internet. These are:
• A growing retail business selling men’s name-brand underwear, called MensUnderwearStore.com. It has been shipping underwear all over the world for five years and is about to add an e-store for women’s underwear. It started small, in the owner’s home. The shipping area was the basement pool table. Now it processes 50 to 100 orders per day.
• A publisher of computer education books, MotherboardBooks.com. This business is two years old.
One of the new types of products that the Internet has generated is an e-book. That’s information that customers pays for and downloads immediately. It’s in the form of a document that customers can read from their computers or print out on their printers. In our instant-gratification culture, it’s catching on. And it’s something that many individuals could create and market, as the core of an e-business operated from home.
Web Site ABC’s is an e-book that shows you how set up an Internet business on a shoestring budget, step by step. This book tells you how to:
• Make your own information Web site (and get revenue)
• Make your own sales letter Web site (and sell something)
• Make a blog to promote your other sites
• Make an e-book to sell
• And do it all on a shoestring.
Phyllis Wheeler has a background both as a journalist and as a mechanical engineer. As a homeschooling mom, she began writing self-study computer education books for teens because she saw a need for them. Her Computer Science Pure and Simple soft cover books are being successfully sold to homeschoolers around the country, and even around the world. Mother of 11 Authors Turn-of-the-Century Homekeeping Book with 21st Century Class!
9:04 AM, Feb. 7, 2006, posted by
Marmee
Martha Greene has just recently released an incredible book that is sure to become a bridal gift for years to come. This 8 x10, 250 page book is a keepsake journal, how-to, and photo album, all in one. Vintage Home Economics basics ar no longer found in classrooms due to presupposed political incorrectness. Martha has taken hold of the reins of the modern homekeeper’s dreams, and is steering her in the right direction.
“I am burdened to help young wives and mothers who truly desire to make their home a sacred refuge from the world,” says Martha Greene, owner of MarmeeDear & Co., a small but growing publishing company nestled in the foothills of South Carolina.
While she has authored several other popluar books on cooking, both for children and for adults, this book spirals off the press as a brand-new concept for her, as well as for many of the women in her target audience. “Treasury of Vintage Homekeeping Skills” is exactly what the title states – a collection of almost-forgotten skills, to be rekindled, recorded, and passed down from generation to generation. While records of this type were common for our great-grandmothers, women of recent generations have forgotten the importance of such records, and in the process, have forgotten much of the know-how. Finally, someone has seen the need and filled it!
Martha’s lovely but practical book contains pages to journal, places to glue photos, places to keep important family records, write out sewing patterns, record favorite recipes, etc. But it also has page after helpful page of how-to’s. The topics cover all aspects of homekeeping: Cleaning, Hospitality, Duties, First Aid, Gardening, Cooking, Baking, Emergency Preparedness, Home Canning, Handiwork, Home Inventory, Family Records and Genealogies, and more!
This book is a compilation of knowledge and wisdom from women, both of past generations and of this current generation. Their goal is to preserve the character, love, and bonds of the family. It is peppered throughout with old-time words of wisdom and quotes. Vintage ads and artwork keep the flavor and theme throughout the book. Modern resources for items discussed in the book are carefully and tactfully listed, helping the homekeeper in achieving her goals.
Every woman who truly desires a return to close family ties, dinner around the table, warm and heartfelt entertaining, preserving records and ideas, joys and laughter, and providing encouragement for future generations will want to order their copy of this enlightening book.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HOUSTON, TX – February 2006 – Since the dawn of time, spring has been deemed the “Season of Cleaning” throughout America. It’s traditionally a time when moms force themselves to open long forgotten closets and peek under beds in an effort to – once again – get organized. In today’s hectic world, however, who has the time? This is one reason Organizational Strategist Debbie Williams created the “Put Your House In Order” course. With the simple steps outlined in her book, Williams shows busy parents how to clean it once and for all.
As readers follow along through the five chapters of this course, they are offered strategic and creative ideas for organizing, cleaning, and implementing what Williams refers to as “Clutter Control.” They are also presented with HOMEwork assignments that allow them to put into practice what they’ve read. Readers are given specific steps to take so they can tackle various organizing tasks, and are also offered ideas on how to maintain the new level of status quo.
The end result? A house that is in order, and the simple means to maintain it. As Williams stated, “The strategies in “Put Your House In Order” help even the “housework impaired” get a grip on their organizing and cleaning, eliminating the need for spring cleaning entirely. If you clean as you go, it doesn't build up.”
“Put Your House In Order” is available in paperback for $9.95, in e-book version for $8.95, or on two audio compact disks for $14.95. For additional information or to purchase these products visit http://www.organizedtimes.com/products.html or contact Debbie Williams directly at 281-286-9512.

More Homeschool Organizations Seek Non-Profit Status
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CINCINNATI, Ohio - January, 2006 - As homeschooling grows, so do homeschool organizations. The IRS now lists hundreds of homeschool co-ops, support groups, sports programs and music programs that have obtained IRS non-profit status, also known as 501c3 status.
There are many benefits of 501c3 non-profit status which include:
* Gifts from donors are tax deductible so your organization may receive more donations.
* In most states non-profits do not pay sales tax on their purchases.
* The US Post Office has reduced rates for 501c3 organizations
* There are many fundraising opportunities that are open only to organizations with 501c3 status.
While there are many benefits, filing the paperwork to become a 501c3 non-profit can be daunting. According to IRS statistics, approximately 30% of applicants drop out of the filing process. The application form is twenty-eight pages long and many organizations that qualify for non-profit status simply give up.
There is a web site specifically designed to help homeschool organizations obtain non-profit status. The web site, HomeschoolCPA.com, is run by Certified Public Accountant and homeschooling mother, Carol Topp. The site offers advice, articles, a checklist of steps to take, as well as sample forms. “If an organization wants to file their own application, HomeschoolCPA.com should be the place to begin,” advises Topp. “But if they would like to focus on running their organization and leave it to an experienced expert, I offer packages for all budgets to help them obtain 501c3 non-profit status.” Topp says she enjoys combining her experience in leading homeschool organizations, serving on several non-profit boards and her accounting skills to assist homeschool organizations.

New Podcast Meets the Needs of the Modern Homemaker
Bucksport, Maine -- TheHomeCast.com provides relevant information for modern homemakers not only by the standard website and e-newsletters, but also with the cutting edge concept of podcasts. The premiere one hour podcast launched during January 2006. Featuring professional organizer Ramona Creel of OnlineOrganizing.com, and well known homeschool author and speaker Cindy Rushton, the initial offering is already drawing positive feedback.
Founder Jessica Harvey recognized that today’s homemaker was unaware of the option of having commentary available at their convenience through such technology. “Podcasts are the perfect option for accessing news and resources for the modern homemaker. Rather than telling them when to tune in, we are providing a resource that can be controlled by them and is adapted to their hectic schedules,” comments Harvey. “Podcasts are an incredible resource for reaching today’s homemaker because it allows them to download a resource that can be accessed as they go about their normal routine, whether it be checking emails, taking care of household chores, while exercising, or on the go in the car. Not all homemakers understand the relevance of a podcast. It’s not just about buying an iPod; it is something they can enjoy on their own computer.”
Future podcasts will be released bi-weekly and cover topics including homeschooling, home business, cooking, and other topics relevant to the modern homemaker. TheHomeCast.com has already launched HomeCooking and HomeBusiness, two of their five topical e-newsletters. The series of e-newsletters will provide articles, reviews, and contests of interest to homemakers from all walks of life.
TheHomeCast.com features blog entries from a “Crew” of veteran homemakers, each posting about her area of expertise, including homeschooling high schoolers, operating a home-based business, and dozens of other topics.

TheHomeCast.com was launched in December 2005 as an effort to provide resources for the modern homemaker via a website, podcast, and topical e-newsletters.
Homeschoolers Need Not Fear Foreign Language

For immediate release:
Homeschoolers Need Not Fear Foreign Language
Yorkton, SK - February 3, 2006.
Ask any homeschooler what subject they are least likely to teach due to lack of personal knowledge, and chances are very good they will answer “Foreign Language.” Homeschooling parents have gained a reputation for coming up with innovative, successful ways to teach any subject, yet foreign language continues to inspire fear and trembling. Great Commission Languages, a relatively new publisher of French and Spanish language curriculum, say they have the answer.
“Most homeschoolers would never dream of using whole language to teach English. So why is it that we so readily accept this method when it comes to Foreign Language?” asks author and company president Marie Filion Sherwood. Le Français Facile (The Easy French) and El Español Fácil (The Easy Spanish) are based on an Explicit Phonics model. This means that every basic unit of sound (phonogram) has been broken down and described, with examples and rules for use. Many are familiar with and endorse this method for teaching English as it promotes proper spelling and pronunciation – which is exactly why Great Commission Languages uses it for foreign language training.
Of course, there is no substitute for listening to Native Speakers. These language curriculums include 2 fully loaded enhanced audio CD’s to provide just that. In addition, the CD’s employ scientific techniques pioneered by Dr. Alfred Tomatis to help re-train the ear and brain to properly hear and process foreign language. “Different languages are spoken in different frequency bands,” explains author Marie Filion Sherwood. “As we grow older our ears and brains specialize, and any sounds that are outside the range of our native tongue aren’t naturally considered by our brains to be language. It takes a great deal of concentration, therefore, to override this filter and attempt to acquire a foreign language. This is one of the primary reasons why so many people, especially children over the age of 7, give up on foreign language instruction in frustration or even tears.” More detailed information on language frequency bands can be found on the company website, listed below.
One other detail really sets Great Commission Languages apart as a publisher of Foreign Language Curriculum. As the name implies, they are a thoroughly Christian company whose vision is “to see a generation of Homeschoolers fully equipped to carry out the Great Commission.” Peter Sherwood, VP of Operations, states that “although The Easy French and The Easy Spanish are not bible curriculums and things like scripture memorization are optional, the Christian Content is unmistakable. From characters discussing how God paints his beauty in the autumn leaves to the clear focus on and call to missions work, this is a curriculum Christian parents and students will feel very comfortable with.”

Corps of Re-Discovery offers high quality, affordable project kits and books for American History studies, specifically geared toward the home schooling community.
Springfield, MO - February 9, 2006 - Corps of Re-Discovery – Including hands-on activities as students study history allows them to re-live the era and enhances learning. Corps of Re-Discovery offers high quality project kits for American History studies while keeping the price at a level pleasing to the average homeschooler. "We recognize that many homeschooling families live on one income to enable the mother to stay home and teach their children," says Corps of Re-Discovery co-founder and President, John Newton. "We wanted to offer fun and educational products to enable all homeschoolers to experience life in the first century of our country's existence. To do this, we knew we had to keep the quality high, but the prices low, and I think we have achieved those goals."
Some of the most popular items the company offers are the Quill Feather Pen Kits, Weaving Looms, and Cornhusk Doll kits for Colonial or Pioneer studies. Their Possibles Bag Kit and Tomahawk Kits are favorites for frontiersmen studies as are the Moccasin Kits and Fringe Pouch Kits for Native American studies. They have also written a complete unit study for Lewis and Clark. In addition to these and other hands-on activities, Corps of Re-Discovery has a wide selection of books to supplement any study of American History. "Our products appeal to a wide range of homeschoolers," says co-founder and Vice President Katie Newton. "Those that use a packaged curriculum use our products to liven up their study, while others create their own lessons based on our products alone."
The Corps of Re-Discovery was founded January, 2002 by John and Katie Newton as an outlet to service the needs of homeschoolers, because they themselves homeschool their three children. While servicing its target demographic, the company has branched out to include Girl and Boy Scout Troops across the country and civic organizations like the YMCA.
Typically, the Corps of Re-Discovery specializes in project kits and books geared toward Native American, Colonial America and frontiersmen. The company has carved its niche with Lewis and Clark and pioneer study curricula; hence the company's name.
