Consumer Generated Media
7:38 AM, Feb. 10, 2006
Have you heard the new buzz about consumer generated media? To quote http://www.intelliseek.com/whitepapers.asp -- "As consumers create, share and circulate more and more
of their own "content" on the Internet, marketers,
brand managers and entire corporations must take notice. These
rapidly growing consumer-to-consumer discussion forums, message
boards, blogs and other forms of online media frequently carry
a higher trust factor than traditional media and marketing
channelsa phenomenon that presents marketers and business
profesionals with new challenges...and new opportunities." This is the BEST form of FREE advertising for your company. Even Coca-Cola thinks so... Coca-Cola Sends Bloggers To Olympics by Gavin O'Malley Longtime Olympics sponsor Coca-Cola has enlisted a half-dozen college students from around the world to blog about their trips to the winter games in Torino, Italy. Coke is paying to fly and accommodate young representatives from China, Germany, Italy, Canada, Austria, and the United States--each of whom has agreed to keep their posts positive, according to Coca-Cola spokesman Philipp Bodzenta. - Read the whole story... Now of course flying them to the Olympics isn't free, but compared to the advertising dollars they could have spent generating this much buzz about Coca-Cola and getting their brand out there? Priceless... Why is this? How does this work? These college students are going to be talking not only about the Olympics, but about Coca-Cola in general. They'll be blogging about how Coca-Cola provided them with all the Coca-Cola they wanted, how Coca-Cola put them up in a nice hotel, how Coca-Cola did this, how Coca-Cola did that...do you see what's going to happen? Every time these bloggers "talk" about Coca-Cola, it puts their brand out on the web. It shoots them up in the search engines. It gets us interested in what's going on. It makes us thirsty for a Coca-Cola. It gets other bloggers talking about it. Even I'm talking about it. So how can you apply this concept to your business? Well for starters -- how about searching around HomeschoolBlogger for some classy writers. I tell you one thing -- they are everywhere! Email them. Ask them if they would like to receive your product for free in exchange for their honest review of it. Ask them to blog their review. Ask them to tell others about it. That's it. Simple as that. Just ask. Your only investment is the offer of your product to a few people. And what homeschooler is going to pass up free stuff? Not me, that's for sure! And as Mikey used to say about Life cereal...Try it, you'll like it. Let me know what you think of this idea. Share YOUR ideas. Also, comment if you've used this marketing technique and had favorable results. Comments
