Posted 8:55 PM, Aug. 11, 2006

Hey, writers, do you want a chance to get published in a magazine and online as well?  The Old Schoolhouse Magazine is sponsoring a great contest just for you.

Deadline for entries is November1, 2006!

As they say, "Someone's gonna win it, might as well be YOU!"

"How To Be a Mom and a Writer Too"

Posted 11:31 PM, Nov. 8, 2005

A few weeks ago I asked you, my faithful visitors, "What's On Your Bookshelf?".  I have been receiving some great responses, not only with recommended reading but also with suggestions for websites to visit and folks to chat with for case studies for my marketing e-newsletter.

I also got a wonderful note from Marybeth Whalen, a writer who wants to share her offerings with new writers looking to learn a bit more about marketing their works.  Here's just a little bit of what Marybeth had to say:

"Hi-- First of all, I love your blog and read it faithfully.  I like getting the inside scoop on what you all are up to at TOS.  I value the information you provide.  In a recent post, you asked: 'Better yet, if you've WRITTEN a book or e-book about marketing and/or public relations or issues of interest to entrepreneurs, holler!'

"Well, I have written a book on writing and wanted you to know about it.  One of the appendices in the book is a "marketing worksheet" I developed to help writers start thinking through their marketability and platform.  The different contributors to the book discuss many different aspects of marketing as well.  To see a recent review of the book, go to www.christianbookpreviews.com and scan down the page until you see For The Write Reason and click on it to read her very kind review.  You can also read one person's enthusiastic response if you pull up the book on Amazon.  I also have included reader feedback on my website at www.MarybethWhalen.com.  This book and the mission behind it of helping writers is a passion of mine.  I am even doing an upcoming presentation through our library entitled 'How To Be A Mom And A Writer Too' to encourage other moms."

Doesn't that sound like a woman with a great mission?  I am so excited to see one of my fellow writers reaching out to other writers...especially to moms who are trying to make the most of their love for writing.

Please take a moment to visit Marybeth's website and check out her offerings.  Be sure to let her know you spotted her information here, and just had to pop by to see her.  Better yet, tell her "hi!" from me as well.

Marybeth, thanks so much for passing along the information about your book.  Obviously I appreciate your comments about the PRMama blog *blush* but I think this sounds like a fantastic tool for our colleagues.  I wish I could attend that presentation...sounds wonderful!  You'll have to drop me another line and let me know how it goes.
