Chinglish--Christian Bilingual homeschooling in Taiwan

May. 13, 2008 - Tuesday....some more earthquake thoughts

I really don't know how much you all in the USA have heard about the outcome so far of the earthquake. Like most Americans watching the news of Hurricane Katrina, you can imagine our feelings as we watch developing stories come from China. The death toll has climbed and really is probably a small portion of what the final one will be. It was heartbreaking on the news to watch nurses wandering around the rubble of their hospital that just collapsed, calling out the names of their fellow nurses and doctors. Here, they are looked upon in times of disaster to help those injured, yet, they are grieving themselves and at a loss what to do. When we see pictures of families carrying kids piggy back over the roads now covered with the mountains, or mommy's holding their children in front of a tent as the children sleep............ I often think......."how would I handle it?"

Luke was able to get ahold of a student we all met during summer camp and he has been able to work with............she was at the Chung Du University............Luke got off the phone and he was almost in tears.............he said that she was so happy to know that people were praying for them. Everyone is scared to go back to the dorms and basically sleeping on the ground. But she said she thanked God that they were all safe, and we should pray for those whose situations are more difficult than theirs. WOW!!! Luke said she did start crying when she heard his voice...............it was scary for her.............she is a great young Christian lady.

Almost 9 years ago, when the big earthquake hit  Taiwan, we only had Joshua, who had JUST turned one year old. It was a tad easier then.........now we have 3.5 kids!! If there is ever a time when one has to put total faith in our Heavenly Father, it sure is at the time of natural disasters..................some people here are spreading things around......talk of all the whacky weather in the USA and around the world, earthquakes, etc.......BE CAREFUL they say.........but we can't just be sitting around living in fear............more now than ever is the time tell people they need to decide where it is they are going when their life ends............where are they spending eternity?
