A lesson in doing the right thing..
We don't know our neighbors, we just moved into this house and have yet to meet anyone. But I know they don't have small kids but I believe they have grandkids . A bag appeared overnight in their yard. It was hidden by their motorhome and bushes. After it sat there for several days I went to retrieve it. It was obvious they didn't know it was there. It's filled with "finger skateboards", which really appealed to Brandon. We talked about it how it would feel to lose his toys and not get them back. He understood that and agreed the 'right' thing would be to write a note and put the bag on their doorstep and not keep the contents. I mean, after all it was in their yard, not mine!! But that fact aside, it's prob not theirs. I think it fell off someone who was biking down the street (maybe it belongs to my Pastor, Diamonds hubby???) . We included in the note how we found it and that we would like to get it back to the owner. But we also included that if they didn't want it and didn't know who owned it my son would be interested in the contents. I don't think that was the wrong thing to suggest. Was it? Well, we will see how this turns out. But I am pleased with my son and his willingness to try to find the owner. Even if you do the right thing, it might not turn out the way we want but we can be happy knowing that God is pleased at our efforts. And that is the lesson I wanted Brandon to learn.
I have a feeling a trip to WM is coming up to buy his own fingerskate boards. LOL
******Update****. The neighbor next door came over, they don't own the bag or the contents. Looks like Brandon gets to keep them after all..

They don't belong to my DH. I doubt he even knows what a finger skateboard is. I sure don't, lol! But he did ride past your house this morning, at 6:00 am. Did you see him? :o)

I think that is great. It is hard, but what a wonderful testimony. And I think putting that if they didn't want them, you would, is fine. How would they know if you didn't tell them. :)

That is a powerful lesson. He'll always remember that and make it a habit himself. I'm glad he gets to keep them. I hear those are really cool!

Great! Yes, you are so right that teaching him to do the right thing is more important than keeping unclaimed toys. What are "finger skateboards?" (-:
