Why Public School is Better Than Homeschool.
Posted in Humor
This came in my e-mail from a Yahoo Group for homeschooling. The person who posted it believed that it "may" have been written by a Mr. Scott Ott, but they were not sure. So Mr. Ott, if this is your work I am hereby crediting you for it, otherwise the author is unknown.
1. Most parents were educated in the under funded public school system, and so are not smart enough to homeschool their own children.
2. Children who receive one-on-one homeschooling will learn more than others, giving them an unfair advantage in the marketplace. This is undemocratic.
3. How can children learn to defend themselves unless they have to fight off bullies on a daily basis?
4. Ridicule from other children is important to the socialization process.
5. Children in public schools can get more practice "Just Saying No" to drugs, cigarettes and alcohol.
6. Florescent lighting may have significant health benefits.
7. Publicly asking permission to go to the bathroom teaches young people their place in society.
8. The fashion industry depends upon the peer pressure that only public schools can generate.
9. Public schools foster cultural literacy, passing on important traditions like the singing of "Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg..."
10. Homeschooled children may not learn important office career skills, like how to sit still for six hours straight
To Mr. Ott, or whoever wrote this, I am not attempting to plagiarize you, but simply to display your talent for telling the (sad) truth in a humorous way!

Oct. 12, 2007 - Public School Better Than Homeschool?

1. Most parents were educated in the under funded public school system, and so are not smart enough to homeschool their own children.
My husband and I were both public schooled. We have our own business. If we are capable of running our own business are we not capable of teaching our children also?
2. Children who receive one-on-one homeschooling will learn more than others, giving them an unfair advantage in the marketplace. This is undemocratic.
I wish they would make up their mind. If we are not capable of teaching our own children then why would they have an unfair advantange when they get in the marked place.
3. How can children learn to defend themselves unless they have to fight off bullies on a daily basis? My children have to fight off the adult bullies almost everyday that question them about school and then think it is their right to give them pop quizzes when they find out they are homeschooled.
4. Ridicule from other children is important to the socialization process.
Aren't they always teaching that positive affirmation and praise is the best for children't self esteem?
5. Children in public schools can get more practice "Just Saying No" to drugs, cigarettes and alcohol.
If you are not surrounded with it you don't have to worry about it as much.
6. Florescent lighting may have significant health benefits.
We have florescent lighting in our kitchen.
7. Publicly asking permission to go to the bathroom teaches young people their place in society.
Being able to go when you need to without having to wait on permission from someone else cuts down on a lot of health problems.
8. The fashion industry depends upon the peer pressure that only public schools can generate.
I do not want my children to follow the "fads".
Real fashion is how well you look in an outfit, not whether it is the latest trend or not. Just ask any fashion designer.
9. Public schools foster cultural literacy, passing on important traditions like the singing of "Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg..."
My husband taught my children these songs before they were even old enough to start school. Besides, as far as the literacy, my son tried to read several grades above his reading level, which he was quite capable of doing, but they told him that they couldn't let him get that far ahead of the majority of the class.
10. Homeschooled children may not learn important office career skills, like how to sit still for six hours straight.
Why sit still for six hours if that is not what you will be doing in your chosen profession?

A record of our homeschooling journey (and my random thoughts), as we look to the Lord to show us the Path Of Life. We are a homeschooling family with a strong leaning toward the Classical and Charlotte Mason styles, but since we blend the two philosophies, along with whatever other ideas we like, we classify our homeschool as eclectic.
Our School Mascot
As you can see, my kids adopted a school mascot, feel free to feed him an apple or brush him by clicking on the button that says "more".
