Feeling Rejected - - - - - October 2007 Challenge

Posted in Tags, Challenges, and Other Such Stuff...

I feel so alone and heartbroken.  It seems like forever since you've needed me.  I used to be so useful to you, you wanted me with you wherever you went.  You needed my help every day.  Your hand would gently wrap around me, and I was happy.

Now I sit here doing nothing.  I am bored.  I am lonely.  I feel useless.  You don't need me anymore.  I am broken because you dropped me to the floor and stepped on me.  You have hurt me, and you don't even notice.  I wonder how you can be so cruel.

I can see you from where I rest.  There you are, sitting with my rival.  I am so jealous, but powerless to intervene on my own behalf.  After all, what do I have to offer in comparison?  Everything I can do, he does also, and often better than I ever could.  He helps you in ways I never even thought of.  Who can blame you if prefer him over me?  I am so needy compared to him, always requiring you to hold me, and besides, I am not as young as I used to be, and I fear I am not as sharp either.  He is superior to me in so many ways... what hope do I have that you'll ever want me again?

With me you need so many other things to compensate for my weaknesses.  A stack of books to provide the information I lack.  You need your Dictionary, Thesaurus, and Grammar handbook when you write with me, but he gives you all you need at the touch of a button.  I am sure you never will choose me, your longtime friend, your loyal pencil, again.  My rival, your computer, has pushed me aside, and now all I can do is waste away in my sorrow, feeling rejected, and praying for a power outage.

Sincerely, Yellow #2

This letter was left for me by my poor neglected friend.  I hope he comes to realize that it is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.

This was such a fun challenge.

How true that is! My older son would do all his work on the computer if I would let him.

I enjoyed reading your story. Mine is up on my blog. It's also from a pencil's perspective.

Have a blessed weekend!

Very cute and silly. ^_^ Thanks for posting on my blog. I noticed that not only do YOU prefer pens, but your little one(s) do, too. On one of the salt-crystal-formation photos, there is a piece of lined paper with doodlings (of the "bump," I'm assuming). I'll take this candid and humorous opportunity to point out the obvious: with my PaperMate Sharpwriter, the mis-drawn "bumps" wouldn't have had X's drawn through them; they'd have been erased and re-drawn. LOL... just sayin'... ya know? Ok, I'm kidding. Of course a pencil-user is gonna poke a little fun at a pen-user. heh heh. But it's all good. ^_^ Loved the salt project, btw.

Many blessings,
Christi

Ya know, I read your article, understood the computer reference, and thought in my head, "Huh, I thought she preferred pens, but not a single mention of a pen." See, when you said you "don't use pencil's much at all anymore" in the comments of my blog my brain went automatically to the idea of the "pen," so that when I read your little fictional story on your blog between a pencil and a computer, I came with the pre-conceived notion of "pen" not "computer." I apologize. Isn't it silly how brains work, or in my case, DON'T work. LOL. Had I gone back and re-read your comment on my blog, that would have solved my perplexity.

Blessings to you,
Christi

This is great. Thanks for stopping by and reading my pencil inspired entry. I still prefer, much to my computer "geek" husband (I say that in the nicest way), pen and paper over computer. Notice I didn't say pencil. :>)
Side note: I noticed your birthday. We have the EXACT same birthday, no foolin'! I'll have to go check my birth certificate for the time of day. Wouldn't that be just crazy if we had even the same time? :>)
Many Blessings,
Holly

That pencil story is really cool. But, in the future, I ask you to be much nicer to Yellow #2. He seems like a good pencil, and though you have been cruel to him, I am sure he will be willing to forgive. Thanks for visiting my blog!

A record of our homeschooling journey (and my random thoughts), as we look to the Lord to show us the Path Of Life. We are a homeschooling family with a strong leaning toward the Classical and Charlotte Mason styles, but since we blend the two philosophies, along with whatever other ideas we like, we classify our homeschool as eclectic.
