Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another? (James 4:11-12, New King James Version)
Whenever we take it upon ourselves to speak evil of someone else, we are actually taking it upon ourselves to judge that person. To condemn them. When we condemn others we will be watching their walk, keeping our eyes on them, rather than on our Lord. Thinking about their steps, rather than our own, and we sin. Sometimes the sin may be the judging of another alone, and other times, as we focus on their walk rather than our own, we find ourselves falling into other sins. We need to watching our own walk, our relationship with the Lord.
Truly there is only One who is worthy to judge, only One worthy to cast the first stone, and He has chosen to extend the hand of forgiveness, so why don't we do the same? Regardless of whether the wrong we think we suffered is real or perceived, the answer is forgiveness, not condemnation.
Lord help me to keep my eyes on You, and to regard my own walk with You rather than watching other's walks, waiting for them to stumble. Help me Lord to obey You, and not to judge others today.
