Journey of Life Changes including fitness level and spiritual growth
May. 31, 2008
How did I do the month of May?
I thought I would update for the month of May. I have done low carb the entire month of May. I did take one day off this week because we were traveling then I did very low carb the next day. I am still doing well on exercise. Except for the week I had Jury duty I am still exercising 6 days a week (I am now on week 13 of consistant exercising). The week of Jury duty I only got 5 days in.
I plan taking my measurements again on Monday. When I weight last Monday May 26 I had lost 8 pounds since doing low carb.
I am keeping my carb count 25 or less.
My goal now is to loss another 32 pounds. This will put me at the weight I was at in 1996 when my weight struggle began. |

Back to getting fit
I have not been doing very well with fitness since I hit my big mile stone. I am now setting new goals. It is now time to get back in the groove. My biggest problem right now is lack of motivation. It seems like once I hit size 14 pants it was such a mile stone I seem to just settle here. I can not seem to stick to an eating or exercise plan at all.
I need to find motivation however, I need to exercise and eat better even if I can not find motivation.
Pratical Solutions
Exercise Tuesday through Saturday. I am going to not allow myself to watch any of my favorite TV shows unless I have exercised.
Eat healthier. I am going to count calories and start my food journal again.
Calorie goal 1400 average over the week.
I need to pray and find motivation. I can list a bunch of reasons yet none of them seem to be the right motivation. I need to find a new motivation.
New motivation:
since my goal is a quality of life filled with quality days of serving the Lord, attention to my body is key!
I will post daily my numbers
Monday no exercise calories 1413
Tuesday 30 Minutes walking calories 1729
Wednesday 47 Minutes walking calories Calories 1393
Thursday 35 Minutes Lower Body work out Calories 1309
Friday 20 Minutes Pilates Calories 1426
Saturday 30 Minutes Upper body Calories 1441
Sunday no exercise Calories 1560
Weekly average (figured daily) 1467.29 |

Before pics
In 1996 PL and I ate low fat and exercised faithfully. I had lost most of my pregnancy weight from my youngest son. I was down to 138 with about 8-10 pounds to lose.
This is where my down fall began. I injured my ankle and could not exercise soon following that I became very ill, I had carditis which is water on my heart. I was on steroids for about 6 months and by the time this virus ran its course I was very prone to illnesses. Everytime I got sick it turned to bronchitis or pneumonia. This is where the weight began to creep on.
In 1998 I began my own business and due to stress and eating out all the time more weight piled on. By June of 1999 I was up to 208. I decided to try and lose the weight again. Started exercising and by October of 2000 I was down to 180.
I kinda bounced around for the next year between 180 and 190. In the spring of 2001 my health began to challenge me again. I was in constant pain and could no longer exercise. Over the next 2 years the weight began to increase omce again.
By the spring of 03 I had topped the scales at 222. I decided I had to do something even if I could not exercise I needed to get my eating under control. I began seperating my carbs and protiens and dropped my weight to 175 in July of 04'.
In July we realized my Mom's cancer had come back and she was not expected to make it through the year. With multiple trips to Texan and the stress of the loss of my Mom in September of 04' , by Jan of 05' I was back up to 204.
This is about the time PL was really doing great exercing, eating good and losing weight she talked me into trying the accountability thread here. I joined in July of '05 I was at 201. I was now able to exercise because in '04 I have a hysterectomy which alleviated the constant pain. With exercise and portion control I was abe to reach 185 by October 05'. From October 05' until March of this year I plateaued and bounced from 178-186 with reaching 173 at one time because of a stomache virus.
This is when I decided to reduce carbs and finally was able to break the plateau. Now it is April of 07' and I am at 170 with a total of 52 pounds lost. It has indeed been a long journey. I have learned I am very much an emotional eater and to continue in this journey I must give my cares over to our dear Savior and not allow myself to overeat. At times of success in this journey were times of prayer and devotions at times of defeat my eyes failed to look at our Lord and looked to other things to help with the pain whether it was physical or emotional. This journey was not only a journey of healing my physical temple but a Spiritual journey as well. I do pray daily about my eating. It is God's strength that has allowed this success.
Thank you Lord Jesus.
Now I am going to post some before pics. I was a tight size 22
All these pictures were taken around the same time in the fall of 02. I was at my heaviest of 222. The first pic is a scan of a scan that is why it is unclear.

This last pic is me at 170

Last week I only exercised 3 days but..
I lost another 2 pounds. I am now at 170 another pound and I will be out of the 70's yeah.
I am still waiting to get my old hard drive added to the new computer so I can do a testimony of the journey in weight loss with pics. I still have at least 30 pounds to lose maybe even 40.
I do want to thank my dear friend Prairie Lady she has been my encouragement and has helped keep me accountable.

I finally lost the pound
Mar. 21, 2007
Billy Blanks Boot Camp
Yesterday I did The Billy Blanks Boot Camp Mission one and boy was it a workout. A Friend well actually 2 friends lent me some dvds and I am so excited to try another workout to keep these pounds coming off.
My next goal is to lose 2 more pounds then I will have lost 50 pounds. Wow I can not believe it. It has been a long drawn out process. (over 3.5 years) My next goal would be another 3 pounds after that and it will put me under 170.
I am going to work and eat well and hope to see the scale move quickly.
I also am in a Local contets for weight loss and have until April 29 to do my final weigh in. I know I probably will not win the contest because so far I have only 11 pounds during this contest however, I will still do the final weigh in.
Today I skiied on the Norditrack for 3.23 miles. It was a great work out. I am doing fine on my carbs. |

WOW its over
As my struggle with my eyes continue my dh had an idea. He suggested I give plasma or blood and see if this relieves any leakage. Since the leakage is plasma. I went and gave blood today. I did okay better that last time 8 years ago but I was a little quesy and had to eat more than I wanted to to overcome the light headness. The ladies told me twice that it would be much easier for them to help me lay down now than try and pick me up off the floor.
I have yet to notice any difference. I may try plasma next time.
I received a letter from my retina doc this last week and here is the name of the disease he has diagnosed me with. "juxtafoveal telangiectasia"

Encouragement
Another week passes and the scale does not move. I keep saying do not weigh, do not weigh, do not weigh and what do I do on Monday? I weigh! Of course the scale did not budge. I was so discouraged. How can I exercise like crazy, count calories and not see the scale move. I know my pants are looser than a few weeks ago yet the pounds are consistant. Sometimes I just want to scream. . It is not like I am close to my goal weigh I am at least 36 pounds away from it. I have reduced sugar, I drink a lot of water and I do a variety of exercise.
As I was moaning about the scale my husband mentioned to me how proud he was of me and that I was looking at things wrong.
I need to think of where I would be if I have not been exercsing and watching what I eat. I would probably be at least 30 pounds heavier than I am now. He said 30 pounds I say in all reality it would probably be more like 40.
So, for now that is where I will find my encouragement. I will draw strength from his words. Thank you Greg. |
