Why am I Pattycake?
It's buried in maybe a few of my posts here, how I got that name. I should probably put it in my profile ... it's my "grandma" name!
The right and privilege of the oldest grandchild is that he or she gets to name the grandparents. My nephew, Jeff, named my father "Cuppa." He meant to say "Grandpa" but it came out "Cuppa." So it stuck. I can remember someone (probably my nephew Jim) calling him "Cups" for short at times. I have this vague memory of "Hiya, Cups!"
Well apparently, I overdid the pattycake thing with my oldest grandchild. I have a few songs I do with the little ones over and over. "Little Rabbit Foo Foo," "Once Upon a Time in a House in a Woods," "My Lord and My Lady," "Pattycake, Pattycake Bakers Man."
Addie began calling me "Pattycake" one day! She couldn't talk so perfectly yet, so it came out kind of like "Pa (sounds like the a in apple) kits."
So I guess my name really should be Pa-kits.
But I'm Pattycake ... and glad I'm not FOO-FOO! People -- when the grandchildren come along ... be very careful what you songs you sing to them, or poems you say to them over and over and over. It could become your NAME for several years.
I wear mine with honor ...
Here's the grandchild who named me Pattycake, trying to smile sweet, and "not so big." Just a little smile ... (she was a flower girl that day)

And here she is with her brother and baby sister ...

These grandbabies of yours are gorgeous! Interesting that the oldest is a real blondie and the other two have such dark hair! I have four very blonde daughters and three dark haired boys!

Love the pix of the grandchildren. Love the story. And it's true. I was the oldest grandchild and Grandpa came out Bumpa and it stuck -- in my 30's shortly before he passed on I was still calling him Bumpa. As I was the oldest of six grandchildren the others naturally followed my lead...
Thanks for sharing!

I love the name Pattycake.
As you can see, I am grandmommy. It was just mommy for a long time and people were shocked that my daughter allowed her daughter to call me "mommy". She (the baby) always knew the difference, grandmommy is "mommy" and momma is "momma".
Your grandchildren are adorable!!!
