Half a month!!!

Posted in Frugal Friendlies

One of the goals I set for us at the beginning of the year was to make eating out a special even...like birthdays only. So for our family my birthday happens to be the first b-day of the year..BUT.. I do not want to eat out on my b-day I would prefer to wait until my hubby is home & just the 2 of us have a special night out. So the next b-day happens to be my oldest daughter(which is only 10 days later than my b-day) so I told her she got to pic the place(within a reasonable price) to eat out. I also told her we could either eat out ON her birthday or if dad is not home on that date we could wait until he is home...she hasn't decided yet...or if she has she hasn't told me yet.

So anyway my point...is...we have gone since New Years Eve  not eating out AT ALL...no take out, no stopping & grabbing something on the way home...no actual eating out nothing..nada!!! It has been all at home cooking....now granted some nights we have had cereal for dinner, but that is ok....we DIDN'T eat out!!

So that is where my title half a month comes in at we have made it half a month without eating out !!!!

I have been planning meals a lot better than I ever have before, some things I have learned are:
  • you really have to be on top of the menu planning in order for this to work
  • leftovers occur lots more than I thought they would
  • if you REALLY plan you don't have to go to the store near as much as if you don't plan
  • if you don't go to the store as much you really can save money
  • cooking from scratch is not as hard as you might think it is, but it is time consuming, therefore you must PLAN..
  • I gotta figure out how to get my kids to lay off the milk some..they really go through lots of milk
So back to my b-day...I'm ok with us not eating out for my b-day...really I am...I'd rather save the money we would spend on eating out....for ....for.......savings....I'm so practial.
