• Aug. 15, 2007 - Homeschool Artist Showcase, November 2007

Colorado  Springs     2007    Homeschool  Artist  Showcase

Every year, local school districts display student art work at our local libraries.

We thought, "Why not have a public art show for local homeschoolers?"

That is exactly what we are doing!

And we would like you to join us!  It's free!

Sand Creek Library, a branch of Pikes Peak Library District, has given us the entire month of November

to display the art work and creativity of the local homeschooling community.

And they are hosting an opening reception. And the show will be juried!

Ribbons will be awarded, plus there will be a Peoples Choice Award. Doesn't this sound like fun?

The show will open on November 1st and run through the 30th.

Art that was created by you or your children in the last two years,

is eligible to be in the Homeschool Artist Showcase.*

Sand Creek located at 1821 South Academy Blvd.

Why are we doing this?

"For the last two years, my kids and I have entered the creative arts competition at the El Paso County Fair.  We have had a wonderful time creating, preparing and entering our art projects.  The experience and reward of seeing our work on display, and the joy of getting ribbons has created memories we will never forget. The folks at Sand Creek Library said it’s time to have a Homeschool Art Show right here!

We are hoping that this first "Homeschool Artist Showcase" will whet your appetites for art creation and competition and also help you prepare for next year's fair!  This year there were over 700 entries in the creative arts and cooking competition at the fair, but we were told that in years past it was not uncommon to have 2500 entries.

Here is a chance for you to "practice" for the next County Fair or just join us and have fun displaying your creativity.  Homeschoolers in the El Paso County and immediate area are welcome to participate in the Homeschool Artist Showcase” ~ Mrs. Nancy Baetz, Homeschool Artist Showcase Coordinator**

*The organizers have reserved the right to reject any projects they deem offensive or otherwise compromising to the nature of this homeschool family friendly art display, and neither Sand Creek Library employees nor PPLD shall be held liable for the decisions made.

**Nancy Baetz and Melody Philbrick make up the committee bringing you this wonderful opportunity!  Nancy is a homeschooling Mom of four who has been a homeschool  support group volunteer for many years in Colorado Springs .   In addition to learning with her kids 24/7, she has enjoyed the freedom to pursue her own gifts as a freelance writer and photographer.  She is a regular contributor to The Old Schoolhouse Magazine and The Girlhood Home Companion. She was featured in the May 2007 edition of the Remembrance Press Newsletter in the article "How I Teach My Children Art." Feel free to contact her at HomeschoolArtists/at/q/dot/com for questions, and to obtain the rules and a registration form.

Melody is a former homeschool Mom who is the Children’s Librarian at Sand Creek Library.  Her son has gone on to graduate from college with high honors.  She is in charge of multiple children’s projects through PPLD and has many articles and reviews published about activities and children’s literature, which is her all time favorite thing to do besides go beach combing.  She is a favorite librarian to many homeschoolers!  You can contact her most days at Sand Creek Library.
