Living the Life

Dec. 1, 2007 - It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year!!!!!!!!

December is a busy month around here.  My birthday is the 6th, my daughter's is the 13th, and my husband's is on Christmas Day.   Chase (my youngest son, 7) keeps asking me why his birthday isn't in December,  why couldn't I just hold him in my tummy until December (he was born in Sept and weighed 8lbs and 14oz,  he  I was ready for him to get out.  There was no more room in the inn).

We set aside some of our "regular" school work and do a Christmas study, starting the first week of December.  We study about Jesus and what was going on in the world at the time he was born.  We study about what other countries/cultures do to celebrate Christmas.  We make things and cook stuff.  They (and me too, I confess) really enjoy this!

This year they've been making Christmas gifts to give.  Since they are here instead of at "school", they don't have some huge list of things they "just have to have".  I can't stand how Christmas is becoming so commercialized.  Around here Lowe's has been advertising to come in and get your "Family" tree instead of Christmas tree.  What is this world coming too?  I try not to let those types of things make me a Scrooge (at least not around the children!).  I want them to have happy memories of home and Christmas.   Christmas songs, lights, and movies and the smell of things baking in the oven!

I hope everyone has a blessed Christmas and New Year!

Kristi

Oh man, isn't that the truth! It just kills me! I get all Scrooge-y too and think "they just shouldn't get to have Christmas" but I suppose that's rather anti-Christian of me. So I have to watch it. If people ask about how we celebrate Christmas though, I make sure to tell them we are baking a birthday cake for Jesus! If I can teach it to my kids, and they can teach it to their kids, maybe it'll get better. I don't know.

Happy Birthday a few days early! My b-day is the 17th. :)

Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog and for adding me as a friend. I'll add you, too!

I've not yet given them any literature and am praying about (and seeking advice) on what I should share.

As you might imagine, there's a lot of info on the Internet about JW and what they believe. There's a 59-minute video that was done in the mid-80's. I have a link to it in this entry...

I found it very enlightening. I'll try to get other links (that I've found helpful) added to my site.

This IS the most wonderful time of the year. I know, that kind of politically correct nonsense really gets to me too. Your Christmas unit study sounds like a lot of fun!

Merry Christmas with a capital C

Hey. Re the blogger award, I copied it and saved it to my desktop, then uploaded it on the photos section of the Homeschoolblogger Control Panel. Hope that helps!
