So one of the things we did early on when we moved here was stop by the Dole Plantation. From there, after watching their little demonstration on carving a pineapple and propagating one, I decided to try it.
Well the second try finally took. And boy did it take! It took almost the two full years to get any sign of fruit in the future! I really think it was because it was originally in a pot that was too small for it. Once DH replanted it in a giant pot, it went right on growing.
One day, not too long ago I happened to see a change in the plant as I peered at it through the lanai glass door. It had a strange yellow tint to the top of the plant. I thought this was a sign it was doomed... too much rain perhaps.
But I was wrong! It was a little pineapple bud starting to grow! Of course, it took almost 2 months for me to get around to actually taking a PHOTO of the darn thing, but here it is. (And this photo is almost a month old at that!LOL)

So why my buddy might have her own personal Garden of Eden in her backyard, at least I've got this! LOL The thing is, I'm not even sure it will be ready for picking by the time we move from Oahu! *sigh* If not, I guess a local buddy will inherit my plant, including the fruit! If we are able to pick the pineapple before we more she'll still get the plant. It should be good for another couple of pineapples after this one. Her last pineapple plant got stolen during a move! (yes really!) |
We miss Oahu and Hawaii
Love the photos,
