Well today was our first day with MEP. My 9.75yo DD is still using MUS as well, and I have no intentions of dropping it anytime soon. But I liked the look of MEP, and the concepts it covered and it methods so have added it into our math studies, too.
I went back a year from where I would have probably placed her into MEP and have pulled out PARTS of lessons, focusing on concepts/methods that my DD would either benefit from covering again or things that are covered in a totally new way to her. I copied/pasted pieces of the teacher guide and parts of the student book into new documents and printed them all out. Often times there are multiple "lessons" covered in one day of our MEP lessons, it just depends on the number of activities. I tried to stay with 7-8 activities for MEP a day. This seems to be about how long *I* can stand to stand up and just teach math. LOL
Once we've "caught up" to where her true level is, I might adjust things, do a full lesson, etc... will wait and see.
Anyway, today went real well. She was REALLY using her brain in a totally different way, plain and simple, no doubt about it. She said at the end "that was fun!" She probably could have withstood a few more activities to do, but I didn't want to push her little brain too much. LOL After MEP she started a new AO literature book. So that was a nice change for her.

Okay, now granted, the website is a bit confusing. That's what you get when a bunch of math geeks try to put a website together. LOL BUT... don't get flustered, to go directly to the place where the LESSONS and such are scroll down to where it says SCHOOL CURRICULUM MATERIALS and go to whatever level you want/need. Keep in mind that European placement levels differ from those of the U.S. To figure out proper placement I suggest you start at your child's current "grade level" and browse the concepts there, if those are too foreign looking (they do present math different than many standard USA curricula) go to a level earlier and look around again.
As I said, I started my DD in a year below where she is with MUS, just so she can get used to this "new way of thinking/doing math." We'll zip through those lessons I've pulled from in no time, since they're dealing with concepts she already knows, and we can move toward her current knowledge level in time.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this resource with you. There is even a yahoo group for fellow homeschoolers that are using MEP (either in whole or in part) you can find here.
For more free math curriculum, you might also wish to look at this North Carolina website.
I remember using the kindergarten level program when DD was at that age. Not really sure why we stopped. LOL I think I had a friend who talked me into trying Saxon. I hated it and looked for something different to try... taking us to MUS.
