Back to School Homeschool Supplies

This is the first year I've felt like we're "gearing back up" to restart back to school instead of feeling like we're "just continuing on" with it. We're year-round homeschoolers, at least we've always been in the past. But this new location has blessed us with some (mostly) nice neighborhood children and only one family of those homeschool. What this has meant was that we had a summer of friends outside playing wanting DD to go out and play, too. (Naturally.) So, we did take all of June off, most of July, and here in August we're been, as I said, gearing back up.

What this time off has allowed me though, was time to really take an "outside view" of our homeschooling. Assess both good and bad aspects of it and ponder on those. Thankfully AIM has made it possible for me to toss around MANY, MANY ideas, thoughts, possibilities to my dear online friend (she knows who she is.) Yahoo groups has enabled me to follow along with other close friends as they manage their family life and homeschooling, surviving all the bumps and bruises along the way. It has been a summer much thinking.

But, no matter what topic I was thinking on it always came back to "Thank God we're homeschoolers!"  So it is again with certainty that we continue on this path for another "calendar school year." (As if there was ever any other option. LOL)

Anyway, Kim over at the Starry Sky Ranch is hostessing a Loveliness of Back to School Supplies and Lesson Planning Fair and it sounded like fun so I thought I'd gather up some of my notes/lists and share here! Some of these things are currently on my "to buy" list while some of them are things we already own.

  • BJU5 Reading Worktext
  • Misc. books for Tapestry of Grace Year 3
  • Clear return address labels (for labeling mapwork)
  • New SD cards (for our PDAs and DD's MP3 Player)
  • Watercolor paper & card blanks
  • dry erase eraser
  • Pro-click Binder & refills (had this for a few years & use it all the time! LOVE IT)
  • chalk board eraser
  • post-its (various sizes, shapes, styles... one can never have enough of these!)
  • box of Fall color file folders (new colors *I* had never seen! Great for project planning, lapbooking, organization)
  • Xyron laminating refills
  • Xyron 150 refills (i LOVE this little sticker-maker machine!)
  • Xyron Cheetah refills (super for quick/easy notebooking and lapbooking)
  • glue gun & glue sticks
  • cardstock
  • colored printer paper
  • Modeling Beeswax
  • Plasticine (for sculpting semi-permanent creations)
  • Sculpey (for sculpting permanent creations)
  • index cards, including these nifty 1/2 size ones
  • transparencies (for mapwork and other projects)
  • Sharpie markers in ultra-fine tip and fine tip (super for writing on page protectors, doing mapwork, various art projects & more!)
  • crayons
  • good colored pencils
  • good water-color pencils
  • Composition notebooks (the cooler/prettier the cover the better... though standard mottled black & white work, too!)
  • Scotch tape, painters tape, & clear packing tape
  • binders in various widths
  • 3-prong paper folders
  • page protectors
  • alcohol swabs (great for erasing Sharpie markers from your page protectors!)
  • various books on crafts, foods & other ideas for celebrating our Faith, religious holidays, national holidays & seasons
  • water-flow paint brushes
  • Shower board (melamine) cut to size (from your local hardware/lumberyard... makes inexpensive and durable dry erase boards!)
  • sturdy canvas field bag (for carrying our nature walk-journaling supplies)
  • kleenex (box on hand at DD's desk, my desk, each bedroom, living room)
  • hand sanitizer (kitchen, car, purse, backpacks)
  • bento boxes (various styles/sizes) for meals on the go
  • various craft kits (both prepackaged as well as those put together at home)
  • blank CDs and DVDs
  • library cards
  • membership to Netflix
  • membership to HSLDA
  • standard kitchen timer (great for limiting computer time, for instrument practice, etc)
  • staples, scissors, pencils, pens, chalk, dry erase markers
  • electric pencil sharpener
  • plenty of black and color ink for the printer!
  • acrylic paints (as well as extender & fabric medium)
  • craypas
  • oil pastels
  • swimsuits, beach towels, & goggles (for swim lessons throughout the year)
  • waterbottles
  • backpack (for kiddo)
  • various totebags (for me)
  • looseleaf paper
  • highlighters
  • digital camera  (I LOVE my Digital Rebel)
  • Compact Flash cards (I suggest at least two, one for IN the camera & one on-hand in the camera bag)
I may decide to continue this list tomorrow (or in the future)... but right now, it's time for me to go to bed. I'll close by pointing you over to my sidebar on the right for you to look at the listing of curricula we're currently using. Some things will be added/changed/deleted in the near future but for the most part we'll just be continuing onward and upwards!
