With visions of grandeur dancing in my head I thought I'd jump in on this brand new meme and document today, play by play, to share each riveting and fascinating moment in a day in the life here at Peakmore Academy. *
6:55am-- I wake up. Come downstairs, wrap a blanket around me as I open the patio blinds and turn on a light. DH is long gone to work and DD still slumbers. I read today's devotional, check some overnight emails, "window" shop at JCPenny.com for new bedding for the master bedroom... no, I didn't buy anything (*sigh*) but did play around with some color ideas. Also during this time I decide to start this blog entry.
8:02-- I call up to DD to "rise & shine"
8:05-- DD makes some oatmeal, warms a "croissant", adds butter and cinnamon, pours some O.J and eats breakfast. I'm reminded that I, too, should eat so I go make some burned extra crispy toast with peanut butter on it & a glass of milk (my current favorite breakfast.) Forgot to start the iTunes audio book this morning. oops!
8:25-- Breakfast is over. Morning routines start.
9:00-- Though not the norm, DD comes downstairs to do the dishes. (Usually they're done at night, after dinner, but last night we had Girl Scouts. So before leaving I washed up the big stuff -non-dishwasher items- and rinsed off the regular stuff. When we got home it was shower time then we hung out as a family for a while. Hey, a sink of dishes overnight isn't the worst thing in the world. Not when there is laughter and snuggling and sharing together. I'll take that trade off any day!) While she's doing that I open Homeschool Tracker and print off today's assignment sheet then go upstairs and ready today's books and things.
9:40-- Lessons start. Here's DD's assignment list for the day. CLICK IT to enlarge it to a readable size.
DAILIES: make bed, feed pet (our tadpole), sweep kitchen/entryway, clean kitchen sink, wipe kitchen counters, plan/cook dinner (tonight will be leftovers as the fridge is too full), wipe out bathroom sinks, empty trash, do laundry (today is DD's bedding to be then put in closet) TODAY: change dishcloth/towel, change handtowels in bathrooms, change DD's bedsheets (she did that yesterday), sweep patio (before it snows again tonight), quick rooms tidy, scrapbook NOTES: (these are things I've added for the day) post to blog, enter Girl Scout dates to Outlook & Binder, Call Comcast about revising plan, sort through digital photos to then order during Snapfish's 4x6" print special (will try them out since they're having a special, though I USUALLY use winkflash.com)
10:02-- I hear the dishwasher tab drop out of the door. Houston, we have lift-off!
10:03-- DD comes down to drill multiplication facts.
10:20-- She goes back upstairs to work on her Illinois history
10:23-- I'm called upstairs to figure out where my lesson planning went wrong. Time line dates on the assignment sheet aren't in the book noted. Thankfully, my teacher paper I wrote up has the blurbs so I copy them to the white board, using Wikipedia as needed. (sigh... just a blip in our morning but she's off and going again.)
10:50-- quick check of emails to me, and read one of my blog subscriptions. I chose LIKE MERCHANT SHIPS to read right now. Love her wit, her banter, her style that just drips from her.
@@Time loss... see note at 11:55@@
11:25-- I change over the washing to the dryer (DD's bedding) and start the comforter to washing.
11:30-- I sit and fold a dryer worth (yesterday's) of towels. Then I swap change out the kitchen and bath towels/cloths and leave a fresh "gym" towel at my husband's backpack corner for him. (Hey, it's the little things that keep a marriage blossoming, right?! LOL)
11:42-- DD comes downstairs for a bit of help on a math problem. Then asks for me to rub her forehead because her "brain feels like it is going to explode." I ask if she maybe has a headache or does she just want her forehead rubbed. Yep, just as I thought-- she just wants her forehead rub because she's silly. LOL
11:55--@@ I sit down to update for this past hour and proceed to somehow "go back" to my previous draft, thus losing all that I had just written! ARGH I take a few minutes to capture the last 30 minutes. Apparently I can only remember back that far.
11:56-- DD sits down with her lunch at the table and watches an episode of LIBERTY KIDS from the DVR. (Episode is about Benedict Arnold, whom she learned about a couple days ago.) Here she is finishing up her lunch... yes, using her finger to get the "last of the goodness" out of her bowl of yogurt. LOL
12:15-- I grade her math pages then go put together my own lunch.
My lunch for today is two mini tuna fold-overs, a hunk of cucumber, and some radishes. (Tuna folds are on mini flour tortillas, and has one packet of tuna and one slice of cheese
split between them both. This is one of my favorite things to eat for lunch!) Notice the Home Mangement Binder sitting wide open and in use!
12:30-- DD stops the program, takes her dishes to the sink and heads back upstairs to continue on with today's lessons.
1:00-- DD comes down to do a few math corrections then for the history read aloud.
1:42-- Spelling time.
2:00-- Memory work. Just reciting some old stuff. Next week she starts learning part of the Declaration of Independence.
2:30-- I upload and post a blog entry for the Dec. of Ind. memory work page.
2:42-- I run upstairs to capture DD doing her last assignment of the day. Yes, it's a bit of a long day but she piddled around a bit. Don't even ask about the giggles and mayhem that insued because of me going into the school/scrap room! LOL And don't ask about me having to take this photo multiple times because of the craziness I didn't have the SD card inserted... which apparently 10 year olds think is just hysterical.
2:49-- DD comes down to put away the dishes from the dishwasher.
2:58-- Vacuuming is completed.
3:15-- I make two little plates of celery w/ peanut butter & raisins for afternoon snack for DD and me. Heck, apparently there's even a recipe for those that have never made this before!LOL
3:25-- My wonderful DH walked in the door, coming home from work.
3:36-- DD goes outside to play for a bit.
I'll end this documentation of today here at this point. With DH home it's time to swing into "family mode."
* One must note the tongue-in-cheek styling of the opening to today's blog entry. There's certainly nothing riveting nor fascinating about our days. LOL
Hey, I think reading about your day is VERY interesting and I dare say fascinating. It's fun to see the ways that other families homeschool and hopefully get some good ideas! I don't know about you, but in my house there is always room for much tweaking and improvement!
Thanks for sharing your day!! I use the Homeschool Tracker, too!! Absolutely LOVE it!!! : )
I was so excited to see that you give points for 'non-turned in' stuff - - I do as well. (Just nice to see that I wasn't the only one!!)
Thanks, Again!!
Heart of the matter meme
Have a great weekend!
