Well, it's been over a month since I've posted. December and early January were fun, joyous, sad, and bittersweet. I have some posts to catch up on with photos to share, but as with my take on scrapbooking I'll opt to "start from the current and work my way back as time permits."
Anyway, here I am, sitting warm at my desk with a ton of snow falling outside. Kiddo is across the hall doing her morning routine as she listens to the radio (country station is on currently) before tackling her chores. We'll have to wait and see how the weather/streets turn out to learn if she has play practice this evening.
My plan for today, since laundry is caught up and the fridge is stocked, is to focus on homeschooling. Kiddo finished 5th grade in December She tested very well, I might add, on her CAT I administered via Seton the week before Christmas. DH and I were both very pleased with her results. As such, next week begins 6th grade.
Is this homeschool teacher ready and prepared for this next grade leap? Well, yes and no. Yes in the fact that much of what she learns is just a continuation of progress through the book(s), Math-U-See being one of them, for instance. But no, too, with the notion that I have lesson plans to prep (so I know what the heck we're covering in history and science), books to put on hold (library trip tomorrow, weather permitting), and researching a few things that I'd like to purchase for this year.
Already this morning, after having watched "It's Me or the Dog" on Animal Planet while eating my breakfast, I've loosely outlined the few things we didn't get to last year from Ambleside Online's Year 5 suggestions as well as those from the Year 6 suggestions that I'd like to try to get through this year. I managed to get all that down to one piece of paper with some snazzy formatting in Word. LOL
However, since we're mostly Tapestry of Grace users and that guides the majority of our studies, I need to pull out my teacher binders and map the next 3-4 months out for that. History, Literature, Writing, projects, geography, vocabulary-- all TOG related. Once I figure out what we're going to be doing for those I can then add in Bible, Natural History, Poet/Composer/Artist Studies, and sprinkle on additional literature and free reading ideas.
To top that off, I printed out another crochet pattern this morning. I'm hoping to be able to work it with the one crochet hook I currently have in my possession. You see, while out of state last week, I left my crochet tote, yarn, current project, and hook pouch at my Aunt Lori's house. *sigh* So for now I'm stuck dabbling in make-do projects. Having just one hook (one I'd used to make myself a scarf) is rather limiting, especially since I JUST received The Crochet Stitch Bible a couple days ago! I'm itching to try out some intriguing looking stitches! Thankfully, my aunt said she'd send out my tote via UPS so, hopefully, I'll get it by the middle of next week. For what it's worth, though, I do have a pair of my daughter's pajama pants sitting on my sewing table that need mended, a costume of hers that needs hemmed, and a table runner I'm working on that needs more done on it-- PLENTY to keep me busy. Crocheting I can do downstairs while watching TV or take out with me (for things like play practice) which is really much handier than being tied to the sewing machine. LOL
Well, I reckon I'd better get cracking on this homeschool-focused weekend that sprawls before me. Monday will be a day of "schooling out and about" as, weather permitting, we have an appointment to attend for my son at the Shriner's Hospital to see about a probable surgery (would be his 2nd with them.) So schooling on Monday will consist of whatever will fit in a totebag. After that, it's full tilt!
A big hat tip to my Aunt Sandy, for prodding me to get back to blogging. And a cyber-poke to other blog readers/visitors of mine here--- please take the time to leave a comment once in a while. It is very encouraging to read comments, both registered visitors as well as guests. Otherwise, I admit, it gets just way too easy to let blogging fall off my radar since "no one reads it anyway", ya know?
