Catching Up
Wednesday, December 2, 2009
It sure is difficult to make it to the computer with baby in tow! As such I'm increasingly thankful for my Blackberry in helping me feel "connected." Having only started texting in October it didn't take long at all to master the technique of texting (or emailing) from the tiny QWERTY keyboard with only one thumb in use (and yes, either thumb-- who knew my thumbs were so talented? ) LOL
Anyway, here is a blog entry to catch ya up...
Baby Girl is now 5 months old. Since last month she's learned to roll over... ALL over! Gives raspberries, slobber and all, and has a wonderful sense of humor.
November look back---
DD 12 finished another season of Youth Soccer.
I found a new book to request from the library... hope it is a good one!
We finished off the month by decorating the tree-- and baby girl, too!LOL
DD12 used an old Junior Girl Scout uniform and other things from her
closet, added a hat and was an elf for our decorating festivities.
She is "hugging" the tree here. LOL
Schooling continues, and we've implemented the "mama basket" as well.
Various things I've pulled together to brighten up our homeschooling studies that
I do with her. A new folk songs CD was a special addition to it. I was sure to put in
a set of Brain Quest cards as well. Those have always been a hit through the years.
There's other stuff in the basket, too, but baby girl beckons... time to go tend to her

A heads up--
Saturday, August 29, 2009
Just a quick FYI, it seems Geocities is shutting down service. As such, I'll be moving my old website pages to this blog as I can, in hopes of saving all my old stuff (like from Preschool & Kindergarten level) before they're lost.
I wanted ya'll to know so as not to be wondering what the heck I'm talking about THOSE levels. No, I'm not homeschooling baby "G" ... yet. |

Small Successes Thursday
Thursday, January 29, 2009
I came across this new weekly meme today and thought I'd join in. Easy. No pressure. Positive. Right up my alley.

"It’s important for moms to recognize that all the
small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So let’s do that."
- Got kiddo's annual (routine) doctor physical scheduled AND completed it yesterday. (She grew 1.5" more since last January!) And even got my annual well-woman physical scheduled for next week.
- Cut out and sewed up pieces for my first quilted table topper. Following instructions out of the Quilting for Beginners book by Coats and Clark. So far, so good. Today I'd like to finish all of the quilt top piecing, if time allows. (hat tip: Melanie)
- Delighted in the theatrical prowess
our DD showed in her performance of Oz with a Wicked Twist. She had two parts, a few dance/singing sequences and even a few lines to speak. Definitely a step up from last year's theatrical debut in Grease, Jr. I count this as a small success for me, because my heart just overflowed with joy when I saw her LOVING this theatre season, enjoying the friendships she made, and really diving into the parts. Her success just warms my heart.
To participate, just write up a list of 3 of your recent Small Successes and post it on your blog. Then link back to the main post here. Then you can add your blog at Faith & Family Live using the Mr. Linky form.

Lunchtime Out
Wednesday, January 28, 2009
Kiddo thinks I'm very strange when I whip out the camera while at restaurants. Me, I just think I'm ceasing a prime photo opportunity for close-ups. LOL
These were taken at TGIF's a couple of weeks ago, before an outing to an area ceramic shop. Nothing fancy, just snapped to share with family/friends. Might even have them printed up and scrapbook them. Who knows. Maybe not.
if the blue hair concerns ya... click over to this blog entry and read all about it. |

Back to searching...
Tuesday, January 20, 2009
Blog followers that actually read from my blog page (as opposed to reading from a blog reader service) may have noticed that sometime last year the search engine for my blog disappeared from the right hand side bar.
Well, it is now back! Looking for a topic you just know I've written about in the past but not sure when? Now you can search for it!
I hope this helps. I know some have asked me about specific posts from past months/years, so this should help you out again. No need to hunt it down via category or archive month. Just type in appropriate search terms and something should pop up!

Signs of Sickness
Tuesday, January 13, 2009
After a roadtrip, library trip, and ice cream yesterday, my "beginnings of a sore throat" got the better of me, having moved up into my sinuses. By the time hubby came home from work a little after 4pm, I had fallen asleep on top of our bed, drooling like a crazy person on my pillow. (AACK)
Somehow I managed to make dinner.... hmm, though the only thing I remember about dinner was corn on the cob. LOL--- who knows what else we ate.
Here's how I got through the rest of the evening and nighttime:
Mug o' Vanilla Honey Chai Decaf Tea steeping
saucer holding spoon, tea bag squeezer, & powdered skim milk
two Nyquil geltabs
Tupperware cup with water
(not shown: Agave nectar for sweetening tea)
I went to bed just shortly after 10pm, which those that know me know that is VERY early for me. My current norm is usually midnight. But boy oh boy did that sleep feel great! I woke up sometime while it was still dark out (hubby had already risen and probably left for work) and went back to sleep till 7:30am. WOOHOO.
This morning I feel a bit better. At leat my throat doesn't hurt. Sinuses are running like crazy, but that I can live with.

Back in Focus...
Friday, January 9, 2009
Well, it's been over a month since I've posted. December and early January were fun, joyous, sad, and bittersweet. I have some posts to catch up on with photos to share, but as with my take on scrapbooking I'll opt to "start from the current and work my way back as time permits."
Anyway, here I am, sitting warm at my desk with a ton of snow falling outside. Kiddo is across the hall doing her morning routine as she listens to the radio (country station is on currently) before tackling her chores. We'll have to wait and see how the weather/streets turn out to learn if she has play practice this evening.
My plan for today, since laundry is caught up and the fridge is stocked, is to focus on homeschooling. Kiddo finished 5th grade in December She tested very well, I might add, on her CAT I administered via Seton the week before Christmas. DH and I were both very pleased with her results. As such, next week begins 6th grade.
Is this homeschool teacher ready and prepared for this next grade leap? Well, yes and no. Yes in the fact that much of what she learns is just a continuation of progress through the book(s), Math-U-See being one of them, for instance. But no, too, with the notion that I have lesson plans to prep (so I know what the heck we're covering in history and science), books to put on hold (library trip tomorrow, weather permitting), and researching a few things that I'd like to purchase for this year.
Already this morning, after having watched "It's Me or the Dog" on Animal Planet while eating my breakfast, I've loosely outlined the few things we didn't get to last year from Ambleside Online's Year 5 suggestions as well as those from the Year 6 suggestions that I'd like to try to get through this year. I managed to get all that down to one piece of paper with some snazzy formatting in Word. LOL
However, since we're mostly Tapestry of Grace users and that guides the majority of our studies, I need to pull out my teacher binders and map the next 3-4 months out for that. History, Literature, Writing, projects, geography, vocabulary-- all TOG related. Once I figure out what we're going to be doing for those I can then add in Bible, Natural History, Poet/Composer/Artist Studies, and sprinkle on additional literature and free reading ideas.
To top that off, I printed out another crochet pattern this morning. I'm hoping to be able to work it with the one crochet hook I currently have in my possession. You see, while out of state last week, I left my crochet tote, yarn, current project, and hook pouch at my Aunt Lori's house. *sigh* So for now I'm stuck dabbling in make-do projects. Having just one hook (one I'd used to make myself a scarf) is rather limiting, especially since I JUST received The Crochet Stitch Bible a couple days ago! I'm itching to try out some intriguing looking stitches! Thankfully, my aunt said she'd send out my tote via UPS so, hopefully, I'll get it by the middle of next week. For what it's worth, though, I do have a pair of my daughter's pajama pants sitting on my sewing table that need mended, a costume of hers that needs hemmed, and a table runner I'm working on that needs more done on it-- PLENTY to keep me busy. Crocheting I can do downstairs while watching TV or take out with me (for things like play practice) which is really much handier than being tied to the sewing machine. LOL
Well, I reckon I'd better get cracking on this homeschool-focused weekend that sprawls before me. Monday will be a day of "schooling out and about" as, weather permitting, we have an appointment to attend for my son at the Shriner's Hospital to see about a probable surgery (would be his 2nd with them.) So schooling on Monday will consist of whatever will fit in a totebag. After that, it's full tilt!
A big hat tip to my Aunt Sandy, for prodding me to get back to blogging. And a cyber-poke to other blog readers/visitors of mine here--- please take the time to leave a comment once in a while. It is very encouraging to read comments, both registered visitors as well as guests. Otherwise, I admit, it gets just way too easy to let blogging fall off my radar since "no one reads it anyway", ya know?
