• May. 7, 2006 - a new member of our homeschool
In a couple of days we are having a 12 year old boy join us, with the view to homeschooling with us in the long term- indefinitely, anyway. He is my husband's ex wife's son. And my step daughter's brother. My kids think of him as 'almost' their brother and have known him all their lives. He is 6 months older than my dd. I dont know if it is a rediculous thing to do or not, but I just felt and feel a yes in my heart to doing this. He lived with us for a couple of months last year when he was suffering from his parent's split up. It was actually pretty good to have him here- he behaved well for me. But it was the end of the year and I was winding down, so this may be different. He will have to buckle down and work. We will soon see. I don't know why, but I just want to share the blessing of homeschooling, and our way of life, with more children. I wanted to foster, but dh doesnt, so that rules that out. I wanted more babies, but dh is older and didn't- that's not unreasonable, but it has been hard to accept although nowadays I am mostly at peace with it. So I let go and pour myself into the two kids I have the privilege of having, but now I can give some more. Another kid coming into our little world to soak up the nurturing and rich educational experience we share. I am gushy, aren't I, but I am excited! His mum is reading The Well trained Mind and feeling inspired. Maybe she will homeschool her younger kids. Who knows. Life is so full of mystery.

• Mar. 12, 2006 - Slowly working this out!
This is my family, below. The red haired beauty is my stepdaughter. The two at the front are my son and daughter (guess which is which? Ds does have long hair but is very much a boy!). These are the two I homeschool (though stepdd reckons she will homeschool her own children one day, which is sweet, since she wasn't homeschooled herself). This photo is not very recent but less than a year old.

• Mar. 11, 2006 - Welcome
Hi, welcome to my ramblings. I am in sunny Australia, I homeschool my 2 kids, dd11 and ds10. We have been homeschooling for 2.5 years and I just love it. Dh is a spiritual teacher, no we are not Christian, I am not sure what we are but we consider our home a kind of ashram, a buddhafield, so thats why I called this blog Peela's Homeschool Sanctuary. It is like a sanctuary here, even though we live in the city.
I thought I would first share our style of homeschooling, and our routine. I am inspired by The Well trained Mind, by Climbing Parnassus, as well as lots of other styles lik Charlotte Mason, but my main influence seems to be TWTM.
We do music lessons, Latin, Classical Writing, Singapore Math, Singapore Science, Story of the World, and several classes. But thats enough for an intro while I go and work out how to make this blog work.
