Pennsylvania Youth Theatre (PYT) classes supplement Language Arts and Arts & Humanities curricula. We invite you to enroll your homeschooler/s in a 2 hour day-time class which integrates acting, dance and voice. Our school-year (26 weeks) curriculum reflects the growing comprehension and abilities of each child. Children are exposed to age-appropriate concepts through literature which stimulates their imaginations and awakens their creativity. Acting, speech and movement skills are honed while children experience the joy and exhilaration of "make believe".
THEATRE WORKSHOP - A: GRADES 1 – 3 B: GRADES 4 - 6 Thu 2:30 – 4:30 pm* The power and magic of imagination is nurtured as children are introduced to the performing arts through creative drama, dance and singing. Wonderful stories are read and brought to life by children through creative roll playing and improvisation. Students in grades 4-6 are introduced to the basics of using scripted material. Dance instruction develops coordination, rhythm and basic technique. A musical theatre unit introduces singing basics. The class will participate in the end-of-year student showcase, PYT Performs!
PYT programs develop critical thinking and problem solving. Students develop self-confidence, public speaking skill, and personal responsibility. Social skills are also enhanced as ensemble work demands earnest listening and attention to others. Role-playing leads to the discovery of multiple points of view and multiple solutions to every problem.
In addition to attending classes, all children enrolled at PYT receive free admission to the company's MainStage productions. This year's season includes four literary classics: Harriet’s Halloween Candy, A Christmas Carol, James and the Giant Peach and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Enrolled students may audition for these productions, which feature PYT students in age-appropriate roles, working alongside professional adult actors. It is the combination of these activities -- weekly classes, performance opportunities and attending the theatre -- which is at the heart of the PYT experience.
Come to our *Open House* to find out more! Tuesday, August 21, 6:30-8:00 pm. This yearly event is an opportunity for new and potential students to tour the studios, meet with teachers and ask questions in a relaxed, informal setting. The PYT Performing Arts School, is housed in the spacious and beautiful Banana Factory on Bethlehem's south side.
Classes begin Thursday, September 13th. The year-long classes cost $572 plus a $50 registration fee. The tuition can be paid in 4 installments (8/31, 10/5, 1/4 and 2/1). The registration fee must accompany the registration form to hold a place in the class. This class may be cancelled if there is not sufficient enrollment, in that case, all registration fees would be returned.
