Books, books, books
Life in a Shoe is hosting a giveaway of Vision Forum's exciting new adventure series, Ballantyne books.
So this got me thinking... what great books do you love?  For yourself?  For your girls?  For your boys?
I have been an avid follower of the Sonlight book lists.  Each year there are several which do not pass our family's approval, but the others have been so very enjoyable.  And all was well until the sermon last Sunday at church... Our pastor was preaching out of 1 Peter 1:13-14.  The first phrase of the verse is a command to "Prepare your minds for action"...
So that got me thinking.  We have pretty much eliminated BAD things from our family... but what have we done to PREPARE OUR MINDS FOR ACTION?  What if God called us to a closed country for foreign missions?  Would we be ready to go tomorrow?  What am I filling our minds with?  Are they good things or Best things?
This has caused me to re-think our school.  Which, after the first two days last week I knew we would have to re-think anyway.  Is our school preparing our minds for action, or just creating a well educated mind?  Are we spending our time on the best, or are we just spending our time on the world's definition of good?
So I came home and researched Student of the Word, which I had heard of before (Hi Misti!) but not really felt called to use at the time.  New it is $400 to get the whole thing.  I went on to Ebay and found one for a Buy it Now price of $120!!!  I felt that was God's approval, so I bought it even though I had not talked to Eric yet about all that God was doing to us... he was working.  Haha!  Anyone who knows me in real life knows I just don't do that.  But I was reassured that I could get way more than $120 out of the curriculum if Eric didn't want it.
So now I am left with some excess curriculum which I will be selling soon... anyone want a Sonlight Core 7 TM?

I would be interested in buying it from you. How much are you selling for. I have never used Sonlight but have looked some on there web site and know someone who uses it. Please keep me informed. I am looking at getting away from the textbook teaching. I have only been homeschooling two years and already know that just reading regular books seems better.

Hi Carrie,

Good post- I echo some of those same sentiments about the world's good vs. God's best. I look at my Sonlight catalog all the time, but have never undertaken the whole kit and kaboodle, if you know what I mean. Take the best, and leave the rest;)

Thanks for visiting my blog. I responded to your comment in the same comment section, be sure to check it out!

Blessings,
Suzanne
