A Small Part of my Vision Forum Wish List

We had a great mail day yesterday.  I received my Above Rubies Magazine (I get 32 each time so I can give them to everyone I know) (Get your own copy at http://www.aboverubies.org - and while you are at it subscribe every mother you know!).  THEN we got our Rainbow Resource Christmas Catalog (www.rainbowresource.com ) which just sells the most wonderful toys and games.  AND we received our Vision Forum catalog (www.visionforum.com )  If you have never ordered from here, please do.  Get every CD to listen to... get every book to read.  They are truly, truly wonderful.

At http://inashoe.com/ , she is running a contest to get $150 in free Vision Forum items if you post your list on your blog... I'll do it, since $150 of items would be a blessing (although nowhere near as many as I would really like to get...) so here goes...

Virtuous Daughters Set (67832) - $40

Passionate Housewives: Desperate for God (84332) - $16

Raising Maidens of Virtue (68538) - $20

Thoughts for Young Men (52014) - $8

The Influence of Older Children on younger Children (58785) - $10

The Building on the Rock Series (27860) - $38

Faith Building Character Stories (17820) - $17

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We could easily make a list of Thousands of dollars.  And this is just MY list... Eric would have another one, and so would my children each have different ones.  The boys were drooling over the tomahawk, and the girls over the dolls.  But since this is MY blog, I put on MY list.  :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have recently been asked several questions (both locally and through my blog) about how to handle depression.  I do plan on spending some time discussing the topic here, as I really see that women struggle with this issue.  It disrupts the family so much when Mama deals with depression.  Terri Maxwell deals well with the topic here: http://www.titus2.com/corners/9-00-m.htm .  I really think that women's depression stems from two things... hormones (especially if there has recently been a baby born... hormones plus a lack of sleep can really add up to some difficult times), and a lack of accepting our role as God has ordained us.  We are called to be a Wife, Mother, and child of God!  Doing ANYTHING else will cause us so much frustration!

I know that when I take my eyes off Christ, and all put them on myself, I tend to get frustrated at the fact that my job is never done.  I mean, really - if I get to the bottom of the laundry basket, they are wearing an entire load on their backs!  I believe our children are put here as blessings (although if they are not trained well, I know they won't seem like they are blessings.  If that is the case, go to www.nogreaterjoy.org . )  I cannot do this great calling in my own strength, but only in the strength of the Lord.

I also believe that God's burden is light, so if we are feeling it is heavy, we are taking on much more than God designs for us to be doing.  That is not to say it won't be hard, but it will not be HEAVY.  It will be a joy, and the joy of the Lord is my strength.  There are seasons... this is not my season to be involved in much outside of my home.  The church will just have to survive without me doing a lot.  I think it can handle it!

If you (or a family member) struggle with depression, I would run to the nearest church with large families.  One which views chidlren as a blessing, not a burden.  One which would have women who can encourage you in your calling as a Godly wife and mother.  One which will help you know how to train your children so they are joys to be around, rather than hellions no one wants to spend time with.  Find a woman you can go to for discipleship.  Read all that you can on what GOD would have you to do...  the world's views of Motherhood are very, very skewed.  Get God's perspective on your job... and surround yourself with those who will help you keep that perspective.

Those are my Cliff Notes on depression.  Bring on the questions... I'll gladly answer them.  It may take a day or two as I have Eric's parents visiting, AND will be taking Angela to a State Piano thing, but should be back up and going by the end of the week.

Ok, this is so not fair. You live out in the boonies and I live among sophisticated urbanites. How come you get all the good catalogs before me??? Waah...

I had some of the same items on my list and had to dwindle it down too. My children have enjoyed listening to the CD Influence of Older Children on Younger and my son even asked me to put the Brothers and Sisters best friends book on my list but it wasn't a VF item. I think I'll just buy that one :-)

Great post about depression as well..

God bless,
Sallie

Love your list - you have some great stuff on there (but it's all great stuff, right?). I've nearly finished my copy of Passionate Housewives, and I have always loved Thoughts for Young Men. I'm glad I have a son now to start applying what I learned from that little book.

We've been watching "John and Kate plus 8" on Discover Channel. The family actually lives near us in Wyomissing. Thought you should solicit your family to Discovery and you could title the show "Eric and Carrie on the Prarie"! :-)
