Well, we are more than a week into the hunting season. Eric went out each chance he got, taking a child with him each time. It is good bonding time for him and the children. Well- Nov. 10 was opening day. He saw a buck and a doe about 325 yds. away- but didn't get enough of a stable place to be able to be sure to down the animal from that far away. So he didn't take the shot. The next day was Sunday. He doesn't hunt on Sundays, but as it was sunset he saw 5 deer run across the field next to ours. I was very afraid he was going to shoot right out the bedroom window, but he restrained himself. Haha. The next day, right at the time he saw the others go, a kid on a four wheeler came riding through. Stupid. Could have gotten himself shot and scared everything away anyway. BUT SATURDAY! Right at sunset, he got one. Then it got dark, so he came home and got the kids and the dog and went tracking it. Then they hung it in the barn and got all the meat off the carcass. Today he cut it all up, and we packaged it for future eating. I also cleaned out and defrosted the chest freezer. I am so glad we did! We had so much down in there that I didn't know we even had there... I found about 15 chickens (I thought we were out of chicken), and about 10 pounds more of ground beef. And two roasts! We will be eating like kings as we try to empty things well enough for the cow which is getting butchered in the next month! Anyone want to come visit?! So now I am tired, but we have 50+ pounds of venison in the freezer.
