Why a MAN should never be an OB

Although my dear friend Amy, the Humble Muse (see my sidebar), would disagree with me (and I'll still love her to death... maybe she'll like this guy when she moves here), I have found reason #952 to not have a Male OB.  My conversation went like this:

"Could you please give me a refill on the Zofran?"

"You are not dehydrated, and you are gaining weight, so let's not do the Zofran any more."

I have gained all of 8 pounds in 6 months.

This is the same guy who missed catching Mercy because he went down the hall to get a newspaper.

I'll call the midwife on Tuesday.  She'll help me out.

I would agree completely. Zofran is my best friend during pregnancy. I've never gained more than 12 lbs with any of my 5 and I just found out I'm expecting #6. Zofran good. Male OB who never throw up for 9 months...bad.

Oh, how miserable...I hope you get your Zofran soon! My sister had to take that through all three of her pregnancies. I think she had a male OB, but I can't say enough about those mid-wives. I didn't have one until my last of 7 pregnancies and it was wonderful. Wish I'd had one during the miscarriages- male docs aren't so great with that either.

to hear that you aren't feeling so well! I do have one question though. Not to sound rash or anything but why on earth would you have a caregiver than you don't trust? I wouldn't be so quick to put all male doctors in the same lump. I am VERY happy with my male OB and wouldn't consider switching. On the other side, I know of some bad midwives but I wouldn't put them all in the same lump. There's good and bad in them all. Unless your underweight, gaining 8lbs. right now would be fine. I am 17 weeks and have gained 1lbs. I am SURE that I will catch up the last half of the pregnancy. LOL Please take care.

In Christ,

Susan

I'd say fire your OB, unless he's the only provider covered by your insurance in a 3 state radius or something like that. He's not providing you with the level of care that he should, especially for the amount he's getting paid. Smug, arrogant, know-it-all OBs (and I realize that they are not all like that) really annoy me. I fired one while preg w/ my 1st baby.
