Sep. 7, 2008 - I might be late for ideas but still worth a try

Posted by seasonsmom

Carri, I have no clue when you are leaving if you haven't left yet. But I try not to bring library CDs or videos any more on trips. I download free podcasts like Ken Ham 2 min , adventures in Oddysey, kids' corner, etc. It is a bit time consuming. Then I burn an mp3 CD. Or actually, I just put in on a flash drive. We bought these cd/radio thingies and it comes with a usb that would play directly from a flash drive, no need for an mp3 player and it saves on the time to burn CDs . But that's if you even have a CD player in the van. YOu can also burn a regular CD which won't fit as much as an mp3. Tons of great free podcasts out there. I am doing Spanish podcasts right now. 10 min Spanish is free on itunes. I also get splitters so 2 kids can listen to the same thing on a CD player. We also let them watch 1 or 2 videos on stretches like that. The warranty for the DVD player has really come in handy. That's to top off any other suggestions on doing just simply thinking thoughts and look out (my dh really enforces that one,). I love the DVD option because I can read or talk to him uninterrupted and the kids have headphones on. But I really like taking things we don't really get to do or I can't get the kids to sit down and watch on other occasions. So, use your imagination. YOu are gonna have them strapped for 10 hours. ANyone want to watch the Joy of science documentary? I am sure your kids would thank me for my ideas! Have a safe trip, or a return if you already made it. YOu might still use the advice for the return trip.
