Frugal AND Famous (Maybe)
With the price of gas going up by the moment, Eric and I try to combine errands as much as possible. I stay home a lot more now... it's a good thing. One thing we have discovered is that it is cheaper to have ERIC do the grocery shopping. (It only took us 13 years to figure that out.) When I go into Stuff Mart (no- that's not it's real name. Just what I call it), I see a million things I didn't have on my list, but we need desperately. Eric SHOPS THE LIST. Last time he took the kids shopping with them, they remembered they needed shampoo, but it wasn't on the list, so he didn't get it. It's wonderful. As long as I make a great list. With exactly what we need and how many of the items. I'm not a details person, so this has the potential to cause a bit of angst.
We also save money because we live almost an hour away from the nearest Wal-Mart. We try to go only once a month. Ever notice how little you spend if you never go in a store?
So last night, Eric went to the store to do our grocery shopping straight from work. He did one cart, checked out, unloaded it, and went back in for the second load. It just happened that he checked out with the same lady... she asked if he was buying for his whole base. (He was still in his Air Evac Flight suit). He said, "No, I'm just buying for my family."
She answered, "OH! You are the Petersons, aren't you!"
Yes, my friends, 45 minutes, two towns, and an entire time zone away - they still know who we are.
Now THAT'S a small town!

It suprises me every day who knows me. They don't know my first name (ususally) only the last name and you know that 8 kids follows it. LOL. Well we are at least witnessing yo others by our faith even without knowing it. It is funny how God even uses the large number of kids we have to start conversations with others and open doors to witness to them. It is such a blessing when people know us by our actions( aka kids) lol. I am sure that with 9 kids the fame minutes go up you probably have at least 2 and a 1/2 hours!! LOL Char

We save a lot of money when hubby gets groceries, too! He does great, though. I send him with a lot of coupons and a precise list. One time I wasn't so precise...Meijer had a deal on hot dogs...don't love 'em but they're nice in a pinch...especially on the grill. The deal was buy 1 get 2 free...making them 99 cents each. I told him I wanted 12...meaning 12 total. Well he took it to mean 12 "deals"...he came home with 36 packs of hot dogs! Wow!
(Came over from Amy's blog..)

That's funny that the clerk knew who you were! :)
My husband would do so much better at the shopping than I do too, but I can't seem to create the list for him to do the shopping. I need to convince myself that the reward of not having to go to the grocery store and the savings from impulse buying are well worth the pain of creating a grocery list. ;)
