Band of the week

I'm trying to see if this (video) will work!

Guess it didn't. Dang.

Ok. So the "thing" of the week is HAWK NELSON! My ALL-TIME favorite band! I've even seen them in concert once! They are so fun & awesome! (They're pretty hot too!;)

Jason (Dunn, main singer/keyboard) is the hottie in the middle. The blond. Although, I've heard he now has dyed his hair black & has it in a fo-hawk. Daniel (Biro, bass) is behind Jason & to the right. Aaron (Not-sure-what-his-name-is. But I think he's also know as Skwid.) too Jas' right. David, behind him & to the left of Jas.

See? Isn't Jason HOT! (Ok. Enough.)

Their Off' site.

I'll do more later!

Bye all! (Bring 'em Out! Bring 'em Out!)

Jonas Brothers

Jonas Brothers
It's About Time

"Music on Red Bull." Without hesitating, that's how 17-year-old Kevin Jonas describes the hyper-adrenalized sounds he's created with his two brothers, 13-year-old Nicholas and 16-year-old Joseph, on the Jonas Brothers' debut album, It's About Time. And it's no wonder since the boys' influences include an eclectic mix of artists ranging from the Ramones to the Jackson 5 to the Modern Lovers--all purveyors of tight, catchy anthems. One thing is for sure, the Jonas Brothers are all ready to keep the momentum going strong. "We go crazy on stage!" says Kevin. "It's so much fun!"

Music always played a major part in the brothers' lives growing up in Wyckoff, New Jersey. Their parents are both musicians, so gathering around the piano for sing-alongs was an essential part of regular family bonding, yet each brother found his own musical calling in a different way.

The oldest, Kevin, who plays guitar and sings backing vocals, was home sick one day when he found a guitar and a "Teach Yourself Guitar" book lying around the house. "I spent the next three days learning how to play the basic chords," Kevin remembers. "That was about four years ago."

Nicholas, who shares lead vocals with Joseph in the group, began singing as soon as he could talk. "From the time I was two years old, I would wake up in the morning and start singing all the time, every second of the day," he says. Nicholas, whose voice has been compared to that of previous prodigies Stevie Wonder and Taylor Hanson, was "discovered" singing while getting his hair cut in a local barbershop. His poignant voice caught the attention of a woman in the shop who immediately referred him to a professional show business manager.

Joseph's original plan, however, was slightly different than his brothers. He first dreamed of becoming a comedian and wanted to audition for sketch comedy shows. "But I was always attached to music and loved listening to different kinds of music, especially rock," he says.

Meanwhile, Daylight/Columbia Records, after hearing Nicholas' incredible voice, began planning a solo record with him. And then fate intervened….

Nicholas and his brothers began submitting songs that they'd written together with the intention of having them appear on Nicholas' solo album. When the label became aware that Nicholas had musically talented siblings, a group performance was arranged. After a spectacular group audition was held for the label, the direction was clear. "All three of us were signed pretty much on the spot as the Jonas Brothers," Kevin says.

For the Jonas boys, the real fun began as they combined their musical abilities to write and record their debut album together, quickly realizing how lucky they were to have each other for both personal and professional inspiration. "It's awesome to have my brothers on stage and in the studio with me," explains Nicholas. "You have a security that everything is going to be okay, even when you mess up."

As Kevin puts it, "It feels like the most natural thing we could be doing. When we write a song we get in a triangle. I start playing the chords that we've chosen over and over and then we'll keep going around in a circle until we have figured out the lyrics for our song."

They're all particularly proud of their vocal chemistry as well. "Nicholas is the powerhouse vocal," says Joseph. "He's just got this young, soulful voice that catches everyone's ear."

"Joseph just has this really cool, smooth rock voice," Nicholas points out. "He really knows how to get the crowd going. Kevin is the one that holds us all together. Joseph and I are the singers and we take turns on keyboards, and percussion, but Kevin mostly plays the guitar and that's the part of the group that we need--he's the glue that keeps it together."

Joseph sees them all collaborating for years to come. "We're brothers so it's not like if we got upset at each other that we can be like, 'Well I quit.' They're still my brothers. We love to do this and we know we're going to keep doing for a very long time."

Inspiration for the group's songs comes directly from the boys' personal experiences--from the highs and lows of dating to being on the road to having been given the opportunity to follow their dreams at such a young age. "A lot of it is about typical teenage love stuff like 'Oh, what am I going to do if I can't see her today?' It's not stuff that we don't know about," says Nicholas.

"There's been heartbreaks and there's been crushes so we know how it feels and can write about it," explains Kevin, but overall, the songs of the Jonas Brothers celebrate the joy of living and encourage people to feel good. "The album is meant to get people up and have fun and raise their energy," says Joseph.

"We decided to call the album It's About Time," Nicholas reveals, "because so many of our songs seem to deal with different aspects of time." Kevin continues the explanation of the concept, "There's '6 Minutes,' which is about how quickly you can run through the full range of emotions when you feel strongly about someone you just met. There's '7:05,' about etching in your memory the exact time a relationship ended, and, well, the list goes on."

Songs on the album that stand out for the boys include their tune "Time For Me to Fly," a catchy, fast track that is about "following our dream of making music" according to Kevin. "The song is about us working hard, playing music every night and trying to make things happen."

One of the more personal tracks on the record is the first single, "Mandy," which is about a girl that their mother, a sign language teacher, taught to sign so that she could pursue her dream of working with the hearing impaired. Nicholas, Joseph and Kevin each formed a special friendship with Mandy. "We were writing songs one day and decided we wanted to write about something really nice--so we wrote a song about Mandy," recalls Nicholas. "She's the nicest girl you will ever meet. She knows what you're thinking all the time."

"Don't Tell Anyone," one of the more emotional songs on the record, is about liking someone but not being able to admit it. "One Day At A Time" talks about how minutes seem like days after you find yourself on the wrong end of a breakup. "That's probably the darkest song on the album," says Kevin.

For now the brothers are just relishing in the experience of having other people hear their music live and making new fans one city at a time while they are on the road. "We've known for a while how it felt to be on stage, but we never knew how it would feel to have people love music that we've written and which we both play and sing. It's very gratifying when fans come up to us after shows and tell us how much they relate to our songs," says Joseph.

"We all have such passion for what we do and for our band," explains Kevin. Our dreams have really come true and we're just so lucky."

An exception to my rules (Spoiler to ERAGON)

I KNOW I had said I was going to talk about clebs, movies, etc. But this one girl left me a comment that I would like to answer. Here's the comment.

Posted by LemonySnicket
I'm NOT going to read your post because I DON'T have time, but, it looks cool because it is about Murtagh:)

Sincerely,
LemonySnicket

P.S. By the way, ever see in famous stars in Florida?

P.S.S. I've read the Eragon books too! I loved them:) But everybody is always saying that I can't like Murtagh because he is a bad goth dude. I think that makes him even cooler:)

"LemonySnicket" (Can I call you Mony? Said with a french accent.) I have met several clebrities. Do you want to know something on one certaint star? Just tell me.

Now, the fact that "everybody" says you shouldn't like someone is, ridiculous. I know a good number of "goths". (I am myself a bit of one. though I'm really more of a punk, surfer.) Some of them are the nicest people I've ever met. The outside, doesn't dettermine the inside of someone. And Murtagh isn't even a "real goth". True he looks goth & acts it a bit, (Less in the movie) but he really isn't. And true he gets turned "evil" in Eldest, but he can't help it. He's bewitched. (Sort of) So don't let someones outer apperance change the way you think of it. Or what others say.

That was Petra Till's advice of the, day? Week? Month? Year?

Dude that plays Murtagh. Garrett Hedlund

GARRETT HEDLUND
Murtagh

Born in Roseau, Minnesota, Garrett Hedlund spent his early years growing up on a farm in a small town. When he was in the ninth grade his family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where he began taking private acting lessons. After graduating high school, he immediately moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.

One month later he landed the role of Achilles' cousin Patroclus in the movie "Troy" (2004) opposite Brad Pitt.. His next feature was "Friday Night Lights" (2004) starring Billy Bob Thornton, in which Hedlund played a high school football player.

He then landed a starring role opposite Mark Wahlberg in "Four Brothers" (2005), playing one of four brothers whose mother is murdered.

Most recently, he finished production on "Georgia Rule," alongside Lindsay Lohan, Felicity Huffman and Jane Fonda.

Edward Speelers

Here's some bios on the stars of Eragon.

ED SPELEERS
Eragon

Ed Speleers, 18, won the title role of ERAGON after Twentieth Century Fox and the filmmakers conducted a worldwide casting search, which rivaled the hunt for a cinematic "Harry Potter" and included hundreds of auditions and dozens of screen tests.

Speleers landed the part following a half-hour audition - and only days before the production, which had been shooting around its leading character, would have had to shut down.

ERAGON marks Speleers' professional acting debut. Previously, he had appeared in amateur school productions. Speleers has completed his schooling, and is looking forward to continuing his acting career.

That's about the guy that plays Eragon. I'll try to get up a pic of him.

Eragon

The "thing" of the week is....ERAGON!!!

Internet Movie Data Base's "plot outline". (It's VERY short!)

In his homeland of Alagaesia, a farm boy happens upon a dragon's egg -- a discovery that leads him on a predestined journey where he realized he's the one person who can defend his home against an evil king.

IMDB Trivia about it. Remember, just click on the highlighted words & it'll take you to that persons link.

  • Guy Pearce was a candidate for the role of Durza the Shade.

  • Elijah Wood and Shia LaBeouf were considered for the role of Eragon.

  • Christopher Paolini, author of the original novel, expressed his wishes to make a cameo appearance in the film, specifically a warrior who is beheaded in the battle of Farthen Dur. However, he was unable to due to the constraints of his European Book Tour.

  • Alex Pettyfer was offered the role of Eragon, previous to the casting of Ed Speleers. Pettyfer says he turned down the role partly because Eragon was being filmed in Budapest and he's afraid of flying.

The official Eragon site.

When Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered, and he is thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic, and power. With only an ancient sword and the advice of an old storyteller for guidance, Eragon and the fledgling dragon must navigate the dangerous terrain and dark enemies of an Empire ruled by a king whose evil knows no bounds. Can Eragon take up the mantle of the legendary Dragon Riders? The fate of the Empire may rest in his hands. . . .

Here's an excerpt from the book.

Prologue
Shade of Fear

Wind howled through the night, carrying a scent that would change the world. A tall Shade lifted his head and sniffed the air. He looked human except for his crimson hair and maroon eyes.

He blinked in surprise. The message had been correct: they were here. Or was it a trap? He weighed the odds, then said icily, "Spread out; hide behind trees and bushes. Stop whoever is coming . . . or die."

Around him shuffled twelve Urgals with short swords and round iron shields painted with black symbols. They resembled men with bowed legs and thick, brutish arms made for crushing. A pair of twisted horns grew above their small ears. The monsters hurried into the brush, grunting as they hid. Soon the rustling quieted and the forest was silent again.

The Shade peered around a thick tree and looked up the trail. It was too dark for any human to see, but for him the faint moonlight was like sunshine streaming between the trees; every detail was clear and sharp to his searching gaze. He remained unnaturally quiet, a long pale sword in his hand. A wire-thin scratch curved down the blade. The weapon was thin enough to slip between a pair of ribs, yet stout enough to hack through the hardest armor.

The Urgals could not see as well as the Shade; they groped like blind beggars, fumbling with their weapons. An owl screeched, cutting through the silence. No one relaxed until the bird flew past. Then the monsters shivered in the cold night; one snapped a twig with his heavy boot. The Shade hissed in anger, and the Urgals shrank back, motionless. He suppressed his distaste—they smelled like fetid meat—and turned away. They were tools, nothing more.

The Shade forced back his impatience as the minutes became hours. The scent must have wafted far ahead of its owners. He did not let the Urgals get up or warm themselves. He denied himself those luxuries, too, and stayed behind the tree, watching the trail. Another gust of wind rushed through the forest. The smell was stronger this time. Excited, he lifted a thin lip in a snarl.

“Get ready,” he whispered, his whole body vibrating. The tip of his sword moved in small circles. It had taken many plots and much pain to bring himself to this moment. It would not do to lose control now.

Eyes brightened under the Urgals’ thick brows, and the creatures gripped their weapons tighter. Ahead of them, the Shade heard a clink as something hard struck a loose stone. Faint smudges emerged from the darkness and advanced down the trail.

Three white horses with riders cantered toward the ambush, their heads held high and proud, their coats rippling in the moonlight like liquid silver.

On the first horse was an elf with pointed ears and elegantly slanted eyebrows. His build was slim but strong, like a rapier. A powerful bow was slung on his back. A sword pressed against his side opposite a quiver of arrows fletched with swan feathers.

The last rider had the same fair face and angled features as the other. He carried a long spear in his right hand and a white dagger at his belt. A helm of extraordinary craftsmanship, wrought with amber and gold, rested on his head.

Between these two rode a raven-haired elven lady, who surveyed her surroundings with poise. Framed by long black locks, her deep eyes shone with a driving force. Her clothes were unadorned, yet her beauty was undiminished. At her side was a sword, and on her back a long bow with a quiver. She carried in her lap a pouch that she frequently looked at, as if to reassure herself that it was still there.

The band of fire thickened, contracting the area the Urgals had to search. Suddenly, the Shade heard shouts and a coarse scream. Through the trees he saw three of his charges fall in a pile, mortally wounded. He caught a glimpse of the elf running from the remaining Urgals.

She fled toward the craggy piece of granite at a tremendous speed. The Shade examined the ground twenty feet below, then jumped and landed nimbly in front of her. She skidded around and sped back to the trail. Black Urgal blood dripped from her sword, staining the pouch in her hand.

The horned monsters came out of the forest and hemmed her in, blocking the only escape routes. Her head whipped around as she tried to find a way out. Seeing none, she drew herself up with regal disdain. The Shade approached her with a raised hand, allowing himself to enjoy her helplessness.

“Get her.”

As the Urgals surged forward, the elf pulled open the pouch, reached into it, and then let it drop to the ground. In her hands was a large sapphire stone that reflected the angry light of the fires. She raised it over her head, lips forming frantic words. Desperate, the Shade barked, “Garjzla!”

A ball of red flame sprang from his hand and flew toward the elf, fast as an arrow. But he was too late. A flash of emerald light briefly illuminated the forest, and the stone vanished. Then the red fire smote her and she collapsed.

The Shade howled in rage and stalked forward, flinging his sword at a tree. It passed halfway through the trunk, where it stuck, quivering. He shot nine bolts of energy from his palm—which killed the Urgals instantly—then ripped his sword free and strode to the elf.

Prophecies of revenge, spoken in a wretched language only he knew, rolled from his tongue. He clenched his thin hands and glared at the sky. The cold stars stared back, unwinking, otherworldly watchers. Disgust curled his lip before he turned back to the unconscious elf.

Her beauty, which would have entranced any mortal man, held no charm for him. He confirmed that the stone was gone, then retrieved his horse from its hiding place among the trees. After tying the elf onto the saddle, he mounted the charger and made his way out of the woods.

He quenched the fires in his path but left the rest to burn.

Remember! The movie comes out the 15th. I'm going to it the 26th with some friends.

More On Zac

Zac Efron
Zac Efron A recurring role on Summerland made Zac Efron a popular newcomer, but that was nothing compared to High School Musical. Ever since it premiered on Disney Channel, Zac has been mobbed everywhere he goes! Pretty soon, Zac will rejoin the rest of the cast to make a sequel that will begin on the last day of school and follow the characters over summer vacation. We know you’re excited about that, and so is Zac! He filled us in about that and the amazing life he’s leading these days.

IML: For those few people who may not have seen High School Musical yet, tell us about your character.

Zac: I play Troy Bolton, cool guy, super jock extraordinaire, who meets Gabriella on vacation and there’s a connection. And when we come back to school we have to sort of break through the peer groups in order to come together. He gets all the cool girls. He's like the dream character to play. He's kind of like Danny Zuko in Grease. I think that every guy would like being more like Troy when they were in high school. I wish I was more like him because he's so cool. He's so good at basketball.

IML: Did you have any idea when you were making the movie how successful it would become?

Zac: Honestly, I don't think any of us had that high kind of expectations. I think that it was just luck. I think all of us came together and when we clicked on set, that was when I started to realize that this thing could be big. We all got along so great, and we all came together. In that moment, before started filming, our connection on set just really made the movie what it is.

IML: What kind of reactions do you get from fans now?

Zac Efron in High School MusicalZac: Watching kids react to the film is incredible. With kids you get a very pure sense of joy when they see you, and that's really fun. Because I remember when I was a kid, you used to see the people you look up to and when they sign that little piece of paper it made your day. We went to a school recreation area on a Saturday where the kids were putting on a performance of the show, and we went in and read lines with them. They were so serious about it. They were having so much fun doing the scene. It was an incredible experience.

IML: You’ve been doing a lot of travel and appearances for the movie. Any memorable experiences?

Zac: Jimmy Kimmel’s show was really fun. Ian McKellen was there, and he’s one of my heroes. We may go to London to promote the movie and he said, "Come by and I will personally give you a tour of the city."

IML: Has it ever gotten crazy in public? What was your most memorable incident?

Zac: It was a Cheetah Girls concert, watching Aly & A.J.-- they’re friends of mine and they gave me tickets to watch them perform. The entire audience swarmed Ashley and me, and it was before the movie had even come out. And since the movie came out it has been escalating completely. Now that it’s going international, it’s growing exponentially!

IML: Do you have a favorite classic movie musical?

Zac: Singin’ in the Rain -- especially Donald O’Connor’s “Make Them Laugh” song. I’ve watched it 50 times probably in one night, laughing harder every time.

IML: Troy is a jock. Are you?

Zac: I’ve always been a sports fan. I’m a serious Giants fan. I love the Lakers. And although I wanted to be a player when I was younger I was too small. I’ve always been a small kid. It took me a long time before I actually started growing. I was bad at Little League baseball and I think I scored two points my entire basketball season. Now I play a game of basketball every once in a while. I’m athletic -- I go to the gym five days a week. It’s so important, you feel incredible.

IML: It’s a big deal for Troy to try out for the school musical. Was it for you?

Zac Efron in High School MusicalZac: Yeah. I was actually forced by my dad into my first musical. My dad convinced me to go out and audition. I said yes, thinking it was a few months away and I’d somehow talk myself out of it by then. Little did I know it was like the next day! So I went into this audition kicking and screaming, and little did I know my dad had just showed me the coolest thing on earth at the time. He opened so many doors for me. I started auditioning for every single play that was in our area. Luckily, I booked some of the roles and started doing very well.

IML: Are you getting offers for more roles now that you’re so popular?

Zac: Nothing concrete at this point.

IML: How about recording opportunities?

Zac: Recording offers come incessantly but like I’ve said from the beginning, I’m gonna really work hard at an album and at this point I don’t feel that I have the musical skills or the ability to write my own music. And I’m not gonna have someone write it for me.

IML: If you could choose, what kind of role would you want?

Zac: I’d love to play Tobey Maguire’s role in Spider-Man. Maybe I can be his sidekick or a villain in the movie -- that would be great.

IML: How do you feel about doing the High School Musical sequel?

Zac: All the promotion and traveling the world is fun, but filming the movie was where the magic happened, so I can’t wait to go back and experience that one more time with my friends.

IML: What would people be surprised to know about you?

Zac: I don’t have a fancy car, I don’t live in a mansion. Everyone thinks that along with the movie that you get rewarded monetarily. You don’t.

IML: What’s the geekiest thing about you?

Zac: My comic book collection.

IML: What do you do in your spare time?

Zac: I wish I had more spare time! I hang out with friends, goof off, be a kid.

IML: Is it hard to have a social life when you’re always flying somewhere for work?

Zac: Sometimes it can be a little tough to see my friends because I’m gone so much but I’m enjoying it.

IML: How about dating -- what do you like in a girl?

Zac: Just someone I can have a conversation with.

IML: Anything you don’t like?

Zac: If you’re on a date, don’t be constantly humming a song. I was with a person who was doing that and it was SO annoying!

IML: One downside of fame and popularity is all the rumors that pop up about you. How do you handle that?

Zac Efron in High School MusicalZac: You just roll with it. Rumors are always gonna be a part of it -- that’s the dirty side. I have always been in this industry for the work. I love being on set, filming the movie, working with the actors, directors and writers, and putting out great material. All the stuff that comes with it is extra. The recognition, the notoriety, is a bonus. The press is sometimes a chore but you have to do it. It comes with the territory.

IML: We asked some of our IML’ers to send in questions for you. This question is from Julia, 12, who asks: “In my school, girls are usually more interested in trying out for musicals than boys. How do we change that?”

Zac: Guys are in a good position to avoid musicals and theater and I think a lot of that comes from the crowd that hangs out in drama -- the kids are not the coolest. I wasn’t a part of my high school drama department. But you shouldn’t let that small detail get in the way of you following your dreams!

IML: This question is from Alexis, 10: “Were you ever made fun of when you were in middle school?”

Zac: Constantly. That’s what built my character. That’s what makes you who you are. When you get made fun of, when people point out your weaknesses, that’s just another opportunity for you to rise above.

IML: What’s the best way to handle it?

Zac: You laugh with it. If someone calls you names and you laugh they have no grounds to make fun of you for it ever again.

IML: How about handling stress?

Zac: I eat right, exercise, and sleep a lot!

IML: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Zac: I’d like to see myself still doing this. High School Musical #48!

IML: That would be awesome! Thanks, Zac!

Zac: Thank you!

Here os a mini bio of him.

Birth name
Zachary David Alexander Efron
Height
5' 10½" (1.79 m)

Mini biography

Born in San Luis Obispo, California, and raised nearby in Arroyo Grande, Zac Efron took his first step toward acting at the age of 11 when his parents took note of his singing ability. Singing lessons soon led to an appearance in the production of "Gypsy" that ran 90 performances and he was hooked. After appearing on-stage in "Peter Pan," "Auntie Mame", "Little Shop of Horrors" and "The Music Man", guest parts quickly followed on television series, including "Firefly" (Oh, yeah. Click on the white words & it will take you to a page about whatever it is.) (2002), "ER" (1994), and "The Guardian" (2001). After guest-starring in several episodes of "Summerland" (2004)_ , he joined the regular cast as girl-crazy Cameron Bale. Efron also starred in several pilots such as "The Big, Wide World of Carl Laemke" and "Triple Play." He also recently starred as an autistic child in the television movie Miracle Run (2004) (TV), alongside Mary-Louise Parker and Aidan Quinn.

A junior in high school, Efron's favorite sports include golf, skiing, rock climbing, and snowboarding. He recently added surfing after spending days on the beach for "Summerland." He plays the piano at home, and is currently teaching himself to play the guitar. He's also currently fixing up two cars in his spare time, a Delorean and '65 Mustang convertible, both treasured hand-me-downs from his even-more-treasured grandfather. Efron lives at home with his parents and his younger brother Dylan. They have two highly affectionate Australian Shepherds, Dreamer and Puppy, and a very independent Siamese cat named Simon.

On the Billboard Hot 100 chart of 2006-02-11, Zac had five simultaneous song credits. The songs were "Get'cha Head in the Game" (solo), 3 duets with Vanessa Anne Hudgens ("Breaking Free," "Start of Something New," and "What I've Been Looking For") and "We're All in this Together" credited to the High School Musical (2006) (TV) cast. All tracks were from the soundtrack of "High School Musical".

The Zac Efron-Vanessa Anne Hudgens duet "Breaking Free" (from High School Musical) made the fastest climb in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, leaping from 86 to 4 in one week (2006-02-11).

With the popularity of High School Musical (2006) (TV), he had to change his phone number after getting numerous calls from fans.

Zac's most prized possession is his autographed baseball collection.
