Who I Am

I am a 22-year-old homeschool graduate and the oldest of four girls in my family. I'm currently pursuing an associates degree in Religion from Liberty University's Distance Learning Program, and am a writer, hopefully to be published in the near future. I enjoy volunteering for different ministries, being on the praise dance team at church, taking pictures, and having fun with family and friends. About my blog title -- if you're wondering why "UNDER the Rainbow" -- the rainbow represents God's promises, so I'm living under God's promises and His faithfulness!

What I Love

My Father and Savior, my family, the Bible, my church, writing, being silly and random with my sister Briana, blowing bubbles with my sister Marissa, my sister Daniella's cuddly hugs, playing games with my family, laughing so hard I can't breathe, dancing, Thursday night small group, hanging out with my friends, having serious discussions about life and spiritual stuff, really worshipping God - when I close my eyes and everything else disappears and it's just me and Him, watching someone play the guitar, getting and giving hugs, that feeling you get when you've done something good and no one knows but you and God, catching fireflies, dreaming about the future, taking pictures, understanding new truths from God's Word, when I hit a perfect triple turn in dance, llamas, looking at the stars, going for walks - rain or shine, Guatemala - the country and the people, flamingos, my dog Kacie, reading a good book, my sponsored children, journaling, chocolate, singing in my car while driving...just being alive!

The Cheesehead Adventure

Alas, this story shall be told without pictures, since my friend/acquaintance seems to have forgotten to send them to me.  But if I do happen to receive the pictures after this entry is written, I shall promptly update because I am sure the pictures are quite entertaining.  Anyway....on with the story.

It all happened on a Wednesday evening during spring break in this little town in which I live.  Since it was spring break, I didn't have my normal Wed. night class, so instead I drove my sister to her choir practice at church, and I went to the Wed. night youth service, little knowing I would come home smelling so terrible that my poor sister had to hold her breath the 25 minute drive home.  But we'll get to that part soon enough.....

Apparently, unbeknownst to me, the youth group does their Wed. night service a little - um - differently during spring break.  After the normal singing/worship and prayer time, the youth pastor spoke to us for about 5-10 minutes, then the rest of the time was spent playing some games.  Some very interesting, very crazy, very messy, very fun games.

Before the games began, we divided into teams.  My group was Team #4.  Then the youth pastor told us the name of each game we would be playing, and we had to choose who from our team would play each game, without knowing what exactly the game was - only the name of it.   And that is how I ended up being the one who agreed to play the game called "Cheesehead."

So we went outside and the games began!  Here are the games different teammates played that night:

  1. "Baloney Face"    One teammate threw a piece of baloney at another teammate, who had to catch it with his/her face and eat it without using his/her hands.  You got three clean pieces of baloney, after that, you had to use the one off the ground.  Team #4 won this one!
  2. "Flying Orbos"    Basically a raw egg toss.  The teammates stood as close as they wanted to begin with, then had to take a step away from each other with every toss of the egg.  Team #4 wins again!
  3. "Cheesehead"    At the beginning of this game we were asked "which one of you wants to get the messiest?"  My teammate playing this with me and I looked at each other.  Then our other teammates (our cheering squad) began to enthusiastically persuade me that I wanted to be the one to get the messiest.  Thanks, guys.  So I gave in.  Why not?  I figured, I'm washable.  So we took our places and the instructions were given:  one teammate squirts an entire bottle of whipped cream on the other teammate's head, then throws Cheetos at him/her, trying to get the Cheetos to stick in the whipped cream.  Well, to make things even more interesting, the whipped cream wasn't even cold.  It was lukewarm, and it was running down my face.  It was absolutely crazy.  But - Team #4 got second place!  After the game, one of the youth leaders took all of us "cheeseheads" around to the side of the building to rinse our hair out with the hose, but my hair - not to mention my shirt - still smelled like rotten whipped cream and cheetos for the rest of the night.
  4. "My Papaw's Cereal"    One teammate got a bowl of Fruit Loops cereal with buttermilk.  He/she had to move the cereal from that bowl to another bowl using only their mouth.  Let's just say it wasn't a pretty sight.  But Team #4 won again!

After that, we played 2 games in which all teammates participated - and no food was involved!  : )  In the first, cards with pictures on them were laid out inside the building, and teammates had to run in, flip over cards, and try to make a match - like the card game Memory.  Then they ran back out and the next teammate ran in to do the same thing.  Team #4 got second or third place.

The last game of the night was another relay.  Everyone had had to take their shoes off at the very beginning before any of the games began.  These shoes were placed in two piles inside the youth building - left shoes and right shoes.  Teammates had to run inside, find both shoes of the teammate behind them in line, and take the shoes out to them.  The next teammate in line then had to put his/her shoes on, then run in and find the next teammate's shoes, and so on until everyone had their shoes on.  Team #4 got third place.

Our team ended up the overall winners - which meant one person on our team was chosen to choose someone to get a full-ride free trip on one of the summer youth trips.  This was the conclusion to a series the youth group had been studying on "putting others first."  I thought that was kind of a neat touch - that the reward for winning was not receiving a prize for yourself, but choosing someone else to receive a gift.

And so... that is the story of me with whipped cream on my head...along with a lot of other messy and crazy games.  I have to say the cheesehead game was probably one of the craziest things I've ever done.  But it was fun, too.
