Who I Am

I am a 22-year-old homeschool graduate and the oldest of four girls in my family. I'm currently pursuing an associates degree in Religion from Liberty University's Distance Learning Program, and am a writer, hopefully to be published in the near future. I enjoy volunteering for different ministries, being on the praise dance team at church, taking pictures, and having fun with family and friends. About my blog title -- if you're wondering why "UNDER the Rainbow" -- the rainbow represents God's promises, so I'm living under God's promises and His faithfulness!

What I Love

My Father and Savior, my family, the Bible, my church, writing, being silly and random with my sister Briana, blowing bubbles with my sister Marissa, my sister Daniella's cuddly hugs, playing games with my family, laughing so hard I can't breathe, dancing, Thursday night small group, hanging out with my friends, having serious discussions about life and spiritual stuff, really worshipping God - when I close my eyes and everything else disappears and it's just me and Him, watching someone play the guitar, getting and giving hugs, that feeling you get when you've done something good and no one knows but you and God, catching fireflies, dreaming about the future, taking pictures, understanding new truths from God's Word, when I hit a perfect triple turn in dance, llamas, looking at the stars, going for walks - rain or shine, Guatemala - the country and the people, flamingos, my dog Kacie, reading a good book, my sponsored children, journaling, chocolate, singing in my car while driving...just being alive!

A Wedding Shower

I mentioned a week or two ago that I was helping work on decorations for a friend's wedding shower.  Well, the shower was yesterday, it went great, and I have pictures!  :-)
This is one of the little paper birds that we made about 80 or so of.  They were all different colors and hung in the little branches in vases, as centerpieces on each table.

These cute napkin rings were made of different colors/patterns of fabric, and one of the ladies made the paper flowers that were scattered on the tables.

Here is the whole table.

I wasn't sure how it was all going to come together, but it turned out really pretty.  We used a colorful patchwork quilt as a tablecloth on the gift table, so it really all pulled together as a colorful, country, "Tennessee" theme.  :-)  And, God gave us the sunshine we prayed for, so it was bright and cheery!

This is all the hostesses (the ladies who decorated, made food, etc.) and my friend Lizzie, the bride-to-be, in the center.  (I'm the second one from the right).

And here's Lizzie opening her gifts.  I was in charge of writing down the gifts so she could send thank you notes.

This "party" was really a combination wedding shower and farewell party.  Lizzie has been here in TN for 2 years, working as a short term missionary for the North American Mission Board, and as her assignment is just about over, she will be returning home very soon.  She has been such a blessing to me and to our church while she has been here!  Lizzie is one of those people you just enjoy being around because she's so sweet and just real...one of those people you talk to on the phone and hang up with a smile because she's a great encourager.  She has helped our church get started in ministering to international students, and has really been an example to me.  I'm thankful that God brought her here for a couple of years!

The man leading the Guatemala trip said this morning that it's time to start planning the VBS we will do down there.   He asked me and two of my friends to start planning and getting stuff together... so it's time to get to work!  :-)  And believe me, it's a LOT of work!!  If you think of it, you can pray for us -- we have to come up with a theme first, then write lessons, find and copy appropriate coloring sheets, etc.,  plan crafts and collect the supplies (for 200+ children).  But it's all fun!  :-)

God bless,
Love, Ashley

It looks like it was a beautiful wedding...shower?

I would never have thought to decorations like that. Mine will probably be flowers, or nothing. Pretty boring.

I hope you have fun planning the VBS. Even though it sounds like a lot of work, when you do it with someone, it can be a lot of fun also.

Have a very bright, very cheerful day!

Those table settings are really pretty. I love VBS, playing with little kids is so much fun. I would love to go on a missions trip sometime, I would like to go just about anywhere in South America. Well, I'd better go now. I'll talk to you later.
God bless
Love,
Hannah

It looks like all of the hostesses’ hard work on the decorations paid off; they're beautiful. Sorry your friend has to leave, but I know you're happy for her. One of those bittersweet things I guess.

As for your trip to Guatemala, how fun! And tiring, but always worth it in the end. You'll be in my prayers. ~ Elise
