A Note of...... updates

I think some apologies are in order..... so I'm very sorry that nobody has been posting here!! We do have excuses; Kaity is no longer blogging, Claire only blogs twice a week, and hasn't been online a lot lately, since she's working on schoolwork and such. And me..... I've been busy this summer too, but..... well, I'm the guilty one here, because I should've made time for the Cafe.

I'm going to go through and answer comments now, and I'm thinking about doing some slight renovations to the Cafe.

But........ all of us have decided that the best thing to do with the Cafe is to put up a post about how we'll no longer be posting regularly. I plan to post things now and then, but, like I said, Kaity isn't blogging anymore, and Claire is busy.

Maybe later on we can totally revive the Cafe...... with some fresh people and ideas!  :-D

    So, for now......

Au revoir!

Alaina

Part Three!!

Posted in Kaity

Here we are! Part Three!  Go here for Part One and here for Part Two

PART THREE -The End Of The Earth- By: K.S.S.

Kaity woke up with a start. There was someone in her room. Instead of the usual creak of the ship and the splash of the sea on the windows, she heard someone sigh. Kaity clutched her pistol and pulled back the blanket. Getting down from the top bunk quietly with a sore side was a bit of a challenge, but she did it. She saw the outline of the person in the moonlight. Kaity cocked the pistol and raised it,about to fire it... "No! Don't shoot! Please!" said a frightened voice. "Oh! It's you Alaina! I'm sorry! I thought you were someone else...." "That's okay. I shouldn't have even gotten up." "Don't worry about it! I'm just not used to sharing my room." "I see......Well,I geuss I'll go back to bed now. Goodnight." "Goodnight." Alaina climbed back into the bunk and fell asleep, leaving Kaity alone. Kaity gazed out of the porthole at the moonlit water of the Pacfic Ocean. A small tear rolled down her cheek. But it wasn't just for her father,oh no. She missed all of her family. Her Grandfather Sparrow, her Grandmother, her uncle Robbie. "Well,it's no use to dwell on what cannot be helped." She sighed, pulled on her boots and quietly slipped out the door. She climbed the creaking wood steps to above deck. Nobody was there, save for a small seagull perched on the helm. Kaity climbed up to the crow's nest and scanned the horizon. It was nearing daylight. Kaity decided to wait there until breakfast,it was quiet, and nobody would bother her if she was up there. She settled down on a pile of rope in one corner and fell asleep. When she woke, the sun was blaring in her face, and Marty was standing over her with a tin pot. "I know you are tired Kaity, but we need food!" He banged the pot with his hand for emphasis. Kaity stood up,and being three feet taller than him dwarfed him considerably. "Fine! I'll cook! But only if you help me repair the nets today." "Okay, okay, but the food first!" "Yes,the food, the food....." Kaity tied one end of the rope to the mast and threw it over the edge and scurried down. Honestly, sometimes she just wanted to be alone! She headed down to the galley, only to find Alaina already there. She was cooking a large steaming kettle of....well,something. "Oh Alaina you are a lifesaver! I thought Marty was going to string me up with the Jib......." Kaity sat down and looked at Alaina. "He told me that he was hated to wake up to no food and said when he found you he wouldn't be to nice about it,so I figured I would buy you a few extra days of life." Alaina said, making a face. "Thanks a lot! I don't have time to cook, let alone bother with a recipe." "Same here. I've made this so many times I could do it in my sleep. Why,I remember one time pirates invaded me and father's ship, and they stole everything. Including the food I made! I wasn't to happy about it,and I thought every single pirate was like that....But now I know that they're not." Said Alaina with a wink. "Well,we're not all cutthroat's,murderer's,plunderer's,and-" "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!" Pintel stumbled into the room with a knife in his leg. Israel Hands was following him, brandishing another one. "If you don't leave me treasure maps alone, you'll get this one someplace where it'll really hurt!!" Pintell yanked the knife out of his leg. "Well, that was me wooden 'un, so it didn't 'urt a bit,and you know you wouldn't stick me with that other 'un while these young ladies' are are watching, now would yeh?" "I reckon not! Miss Sparrow,Miss Norrington, would ya mind please turnin' yer heads ter starboard so I can finish this lying serpent off?" He said with a sneer. "I would advise you to not do that, Hands." Kaity said with the utmost calmness. "And why not?" He took a threating step forward. "Because. I would stretch you flatter than a flat-fish and nail you to the stern. Got it?" "Y-y-yes,uh.....goodbye." Israel turned and left the room, watching over his shoulder, clutching his two knives,Pintell followed him just as quickly. "Oh Kaity, that was....Brilliant!" "Thank you. You've got to talk tough with these guys or they won't respect you. Hands is crazy. Alway's has been. But don't worry,(she crossed her finger's behind her back) he would never harm a fly. He still thinks Captain Flint is going to come find him and take him back to Treasure Island for his reward. But Flint's been dead a long time, and he would never share anything with Hands." "He would to!" They heard him yell from the stairs. "Yeah right." Kaity whispered. They both laughed. "Um,Alaina can you feed the men by yourself? I have to help let the sail's out to dry while the weather's calm. I'll eat later." "Oh sure." "Good. Just don't get to close to the food or they'll want to protect it. Could get very ugly." "All right. I'll remember that." Kaity felt a little nervous leaving Alaina alone to feed the crew, but she had work to do. "Kaity! There you are!" Will came walking up to her. "Ready to help me with the sails?" "Yep." Kaity smiled. "You get up there and untie them,I'll pull them down." Kaity nodded and started to climb. When she got to the top,she stopped and looked at the ocean. She felt the wind in her face and the sun on her back. She was in her element: Working hard on a ship with people she loved. Sighing she untied the ropes holding the sails. She went from mast to mast. By the time she was done, there wasn't much sun left, and the sky was slowly turning dark. She went down to the galley to eat with everyone else. They washed the dishes carefully and put them away. Then they went to their room. "Kaity, can I ask you some qeustions?" "Oh sure! Is this for your story?" "Yes." Alaina sat down very lady-like on one of the two chairs and opened her journal. Kaity, being the way she was, leaned back in her chair and propped her feet on the desk. Alaina smoothed the paper and dated it. "I'm ready. You?" "Go right ahead." "Great. First thing.....what is the thing with rum?" "Rum. Well...." Kaity thought long and hard about it. "I honestly don't know. Everyone asks me that. But if I ever find out you'll be the first to know." "Okay." Alaina smiled. "Anything else?" "Oh yes. Tell me,is being a Pirate hard?" Kaity sat up straighter. "If being a Pirate was easy, everyone would be one. I wanted to be one because I knew I wanted to follow in my father's footsteps. But,I don't drink rum, take baths, and I also repair my clothes. So I'm not the usual Pirate. But I am one." "I see." Alaina scratched furiously on the paper. "Next one." Kaity nodded. "What made you decide to be a pirate?" Kaity leaned back farther and put her hands behind her head. "I was living with Dad,I was about 7. Mum had been gone almost 3 years. Dad asked me if I wanted to go on a spice trade to Syngapore with him. I said yes. He gave me my first sword and taught me how to use it. Everyone found out that I wasn't your average girl and could be as tough as a boy." "I see...." Alaina said, and wrote more. "I had met everyone I know now when I was much younger, but didn't start going places with Dad until that age." "Were they wary of the fact that women are bad luck on board ship?" "At first. But,I made them respect me by working hard and fighting tough." "Interesting." "I did have a few fights at first, but I was able to hold my own with them." "Aah..... So,they didn't care for you at first?" "No....Especially Gibbs. He had that silly superstition about women on board being bad luck. He still is the same way to any girl but me." "Got that.....All right, one more." "Okay." "What was the name of the first ship you sailed on?" Kaity thought. "It was called......The Amaretta. Yes,that's it. It was a beautiful ship." "Wonderful. Thank you Kaity." "You're welcome. I liked doing it." Kaity grinned. She stood up and stretched. "Well,I have some work to do. See you later." "Okay. Goodbye." Kaity left the room, leaving Alaina to sort through the notes and work on her story and went up to the deck. It was full of crewman, all doing their jobs. Kaity loved to watch them. But she also loved to work. "Kaity! Over here!" Marty was calling,it was time to repair the nets. Kaity sat down and grabbed up the twine. "Marty,I hear that we're getting close to...Well, Captain Teauge's Island. " "Are we?" "That's what Barbossa told me." "Why would we be goin' there?" "I wouldn't know. You know that Grandfather's never been one to like visitors. And I'm sure he wouldn't know where Dad is." "Yeah. Maybe Barbossa 'as got sometin' planned." "I don't know. But,he did say something about a ship. Maybe....Oh I don't know. I just don't know." Kaity said nothing more. They repaired 5 nets and said nothing. After that as done,it was time to pull anchor and start sailing again. "Almost sunset!" Barbossa started screaming. "Come on or I'll make ye walk the plank!" Now was no time to be idle. Kaity never helped with the anchor. It was to much to handle. They pulled the anchor up and put it in place. "Southeast!! Southeast!! Get goin' yeh scurvy dogs!" Kaity watched Barbossa. He had never acted quite like this before. Something was up. She walked to the helm to confront him, only to be hastened back by Ragetti. "Miss Sparrow,I'd advise you not to get near him. He's acting like a caged lion. And I wouldn't want you to get hurt." "All right." Kaity stared after him. He was acting odd to. "Strange....." She muttered. A nice breeze played in the sails for a few moments then a strong wind caught them and pulled them along. "Now you can all go back to below deck." Barbossa mumbled, barely audible enough for a few people to hear. Everyone looked at him and then slowly migrated down the stairs,Kaity dragging up the rear. She watched him closely. He was standing with his back to her,and staring out at the sea. Then he put his face in his hand and sighed. Kaity didn't quite know what to think, but she decided to watch him closely. Nobody ate supper. They were all so tense they just sat around, playing cards, drinking rum and talking. She sat alone in the farthest corner from the rest of the crew, curled up with the ship's key dog,Mulgy, in her lap. She absent mindedly played with her sharks tooth, thinking hard. "Penny for your thoughts?" She heard a voice say. She looked up. It was Ragetti. "Oh. Hello." He sat down beside her. "Are you allright?" Kaity sighed and Mulgy twitched, letting his keys drop from his mouth,Kaity put them back in. "No.No I'm not." "What's the matter?" "I-I-I miss my Father. I know I didn't at first, but I do now. Dreadfully." That was hard for her to say, especially to someone who probably wouldn't understand. He placed his hand on her shoulder, very gently. Kaity usually didn't like to be touched, but she let it stay there. "I understand." Kaity looked up. "You do?" "Yes. It wasn't but a few years ago that I lost my own father. I was your age." Kaity was even more surprised at that. He wasn't much older than her! "I'm terribly sorry." Ragetti shrugged. "I was expecting it. He's on Davey Jone's ship right now." Kaity said nothing. That was to terrible a fate to even mention. "But I still miss him even though he was pretty much good-for-nothing." A single tear slid down her cheek. With a fluid motion she wiped it off and looked away. "It just pains me to think about him.....Lost and cold down there in the locker." "We'll get him back Miss Sparrow,we'll get him back." He stood up,smiled and left her alone. Kaity felt rather stupid. "Mulgy," Kaity whispered to the dog. "What'll I do?" She buried her face in his fur and cried. After a few minutes passed she stopped and looked up. Nobody saw her.....That was good. She pushed Mulgy off her lap and went into the room she and Alaina shared. Alaina was asleep. Kaity locked the door and climbed into her bunk without bothering to change clothes. Barbossa came down and screamed for everyone to go to bed. Kaity had it timed just right. She fell asleep immediantly. After she slept soundly for about 5 hours she woke up. She heard the wind blowing and the water slapping against the sides of the ship. She climbed off the bunk and looked around. Alaina was gone. Kaity ran over and tried the door,it was still locked. "What is....?" She opened the door and ran down to the cargo hold where the men slept. Nobody was there either. "Gibbs? Will? Oh,where are you?" She ran up to the deck. It was empty. The ship had been deserted. The sky was a dark gray now-almost black. The wind was picking up. The water was getting choppy and white-caps were forming in the swells. Rain started poaring down in sheets, hammering the deck and sails. Kaity didn't know what to do. "I'm....alone." She whispered. "Oh really Miss Sparrow?" An ice-cold voice said. She turned around. There, standing at the helm was....Davey Jones! "I wondered when I would see you again Miss Sparrow,I really must say, you've turned into quite the young lady." Kaity didn't say anything. "Not talkin' eh? Well......Get her boys!!" He shouted. Suddenly, out of nowhere, all of his evil henchman burst from their hiding places. "Tie her up." He said. One of them grabbed Kaity's arms and twisted them painfully behind her back. Another tied her legs. "Don't gag her." They dropped Kaity and backed away. She struggled hard, but relized it would be useless to fight. She layed there, motionless. Jone's clunked down the stairs towards her. "What have you done with the crew?" Kaity asked. "That's for me to know and you to find out." He lit his pipe and leaned in towards her. "I suppose you're going to want to know what I'm going to do to you." She said nothing. "Well," He said, blowing out his pipe and tucking it into his vest. "Maybe I can show you." He pulled an iron whip from behind his back. This scared Kaity. He was now standing directly above her. She looked up into his pale fleshy face, the rain almost blinding her. "Say goodbye Miss Sparrow." He brought the whip down. Kaity screamed. Everything went black.

Hope you all enjoyed it! Part Four will be here soon....I've almost got it done. -K.S.S.

"It's a key." "No, better! It's a *drawing* of a key!"

It's out! Yay! Kaity and I are going to see At World's End tomorrow. I. Cannot. Wait. I've got an outfit picked out, (pirate, of course), and since I'm going over to Kaity's house early tomorrow, I'm going to do both our hair.

I've been very good; no reading of spoilers or any of that going on. (This may sound too dramatic for a movie.... but this a pirate dedicated blog. So I'm allowed to be dramatic.) I'm really excited that the third movie's out, but at the same time, I'm a bit sad. I mean, what will I do with no more Pirates movies coming out? Does anyone else feel that way?

I'm going to do some remodeling in honor of At World's End.

Updates & The Top Ten Ways

  'Ello!

I've put some links up; one to the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 trailer, (!) and the other to an awesome site, He's A Pirate. The trailer is awesome; I can't wait to go see the movie!! And He's A Pirate is a really good site for POTC banners, pics, quizzes, etc.

Here's an extra for you. The ones I do or have done are in bold:

The Top 10 Ways to Tell if You're Obsessed with Pirates of the Caribbean
by Arsarniel

10: To say "Yes" you say: "Wind in the sails! Wind in the sails!"

9: You practice your Jack imitation three hours a day

(Well, not for three hours. But I have practiced it.  LOL)

8: When anything goes wrong, you wail "But why's the rum gone?!?"

7: You end every other sentence with "Savvy?"

6: You get gold teeth just to be like Jack

5: You slice your palm over a box of gold medallions just for the fun of it

(Does owning a medallion count for anything? Because I do!)

4: When making any agreement, you say: "I suppose in exchange you want me not to kill the whelp?"

3: You make rope out of back hair

(Now that's just nasty.  *grin*)

2: You lie in bed awake for hours on end pondering just WHY the rum's gone.

And the #1 way to tell if you're obsessed with Pirates of the Caribbean is:

1: You invoke the right of Parley with invading robbers

(I would!  LOL  But thankfully we've never been robbed.)

I'm putting up some new things on the sidebar; quiz results and such.

  Have a good day!

  Sincerely,

  Alaina Ruby Norrington

Wow. Sorry about the lack of posts! Kaity is involved in another play, which leaves little time for posting. Claire and I have been busy as well. I know that it's not really a good excuse...... but it's all I got.  *grin*  I'm going to work on a new layout, as I think it's time for a spruced up and refreshed look for the Cafe.

  Sincerely,

  Alaina

Message to Jake Sparrow

Okay, the part of the C-Box isn't showing up for me for some reason, so I will post what I was going to say in an entry:

Jake,

Kaity's already working on Part Three; she'll be posting it soon. I'd be happy to have you in my story, but I cannot give you a major part. You're a good writer; what if you wrote a story set in Jack's earlier years, with Jake as a main character? I would have no problem with posting that here at the Cafe, as long as it didn't conflict with the "theme" of everyone else's stories. Or my brother is starting a fan fic blog.....it could be posted there.

Basically, I need to get my story done, but I don't want to not have you in it. At the same time, I can't give you such a major role, as I already have the storyline pretty much worked out.

Since you said you don't have e-mail, would you like to discuss this with Private Messages?

Sincerely,

Alaina

Alaina's Story

Part One

Written By: Alaina Ruby Norrington

a.k.a. Becca

A board creaks, and the scratching of a quill pen can be heard outside the cabin door. No one makes a loud noise, for they don't want to interrup the girl inside. They know she is authoring her life's story, up till this point in time. Inside the cabin, girl smiles as she hears the men outside trying their best to be quiet. Across from her, sitting on the bottom bunk is the girl's best friend in the world; they share a quick grin, and she turns her head down, and again concentrates on the paper resting beneath her hand.

My name is Alaina Ruby Norrington, and I am 13 years old. In order to tell you all my story, you must first know of my origins, and you must know of the man who is my father-

James Norrington.

Before his navy career James had been married. He'd been blissfully wed to an amazing, albeit young, lady. And he knew it wasn't fair, but no woman in his mind could ever measure up to Jane. He'd been told that she had drowned 12 years ago while he was away on a trip, along with their brand new daughter.

Once he was known as a great leader, a man whose demeanor politely demanded respect. He was honorable and great, a commander of ships and crews belonging to the greatest empire on earth, England.
He was in love with a beautiful lady, Elizabeth Swann, and believed that she might come to love him. The absence of a wife and a child to love weighed heavily on his mind. Once upon a time, he'd had those things in his life. But not anymore. James took his responsiblities seriously, especially his vow to help rid the Caribbean of pirates.

Then the infamous Capt'n Jack Sparrow appeared in Port Royal, and in a quick and scary turn of events, Miss Elizabeth Swann was kidnapped, and the bold blacksmith, Will Turner set out with Capt'n Jack to find her. James went after Elizabeth, determined to find the pirate and the blacksmith as well.

After much tiresome searching, Elizabeth was found and taken aboard James' ship. She asked him to find Will, as a wedding gift. James believed she meant what she said, and would marry him. The missing persons, Jack and Will, were found, and taken back to Port Royal. They had fought and defeated the skeletal pirates and their Captain Barbossa, and lived in with a curse floating around them. For Will, his motivation was Elizabeth. He needed her, like he needed his next breath. She was the one Will loved, and in his heart, James knew that. In one final act of love, James let go of her. Jack Sparrow, who was sentenced to hang, escaped with the help of Will. But instead of honoring his king and country, instead of doing the "honorable" thing, James Norrington did the right thing. He let Jack go, and he did not arrest Will.

After this, he knew that soon England would learn of his actions, and come for him. He threw propriety to the wind, and headed for the famous pirate port, Tortuga. There he wandered aimlessly, drinking and fighting, although he went no further than those two things.

As fate would have it, Cap'n Jack Sparrow showed up in Tortuga, looking for a crew. His mission was to find the heart of the terror of the seas, Davy Jones. Looking for revenge and work, James joined Jack's crew. In the end, he betrayed them; he took the heart and gave it to Lord Cutler Beckett, and was pardoned from his so-called crimes.

Finally, he believed he was free. Yet he wasn't. He was respectable and "good", yes, but he felt trapped. He realized that the life of a pirate wasn't so awful after all, that there was indeed order and diplomacy on a pirate ship. Although he had no desire to join up with Jack again, he now knew that the Royal Navy was no longer where he belonged. So he was once again a wanderer, looking for a place to call home, though he hadn't the foggiest notion where that place might be.

Strangely enough, he accidentially found himself on a ship bound for a place he thought he'd never go: Port Royal, Jamaica. On board, he met a person who, in London, was known as being one of the biggest scandals in history. Really, what she did was not scandalous at all. No indeed, Jane Rossum's "sin" was in fact her talent. She wrote books. She saw the characters and places in her head, as clearly as she saw the people around her. She wrote with a enchanting touch, and the story came alive under her skilled pen. James knew her. Yes, he knew her quite well. For Jane Rossum was really Jane Norrington, the wife he'd thought was dead. Their daughter was named Alaina. To James' joy, Jane still loved him. And he loved her. Alaina was now 13, and she loved her father with her whole heart, like she'd known him all her life. James and Jane renewed their vows in Port Royal, and they were happy.

But the perfectness of their lives was not to last. Jane caught sick, and she left this world, to join her Father. James was heartbroken. He wanted to throw himself off the cliffs of Port Royal, he wanted to dissolve and disappear. But that was impossible. The realistic, sane part of him told him that he had a daughter to love and care for. Jane's legacy, the person that represented the joyous union he and his wife had shared, needed to be loved and protected. And so, he made a promise to Alaina. "I will never leave you, not if I can help it. I will never abandon you, not unless the circumstances demand it. But, know this: I will always love you, Alaina Ruby Norrington. Always, for forever and eternity."

-That is my father's story. But now it is time for you to get to know me, Alaina. Now it is time for you to know my thoughts and feelings, my hopes and dreams.

Alaina leans over, and blows the candle out. She knows the men are restless, and she knows she can finish her story another day. She stows the leather covered, blank-paged book in the trunk secured to the floor. She and her friend, her sister in every way but one, Kaity Scarlett Sparrow, turned and walked out the door at the same time. They were greeted by cheers and teasing from Will, Barbossa and the rest of the crew. How they all came together, in a ship in the Atlantic, is an exciting and interesting story.

But it is a tale for another time.

Finally,PART 2!

Posted in Kaity
PART 2  By: K.S.S.
They had just left Jaalois,Jamaica on a particularly stormy afternoon after getting the necessary supplies and mended all of the net's and sail's. They had taken on a young boy who seemed promising. They were now debating on which way to go. " Why don't we get a heading and then go wherever it takes us? We can always avoid the storm." suggested kaity. " I think, that is a pretty good idea." Said barbossa," But,what heading should we use?'' He asked. "North east." Said will. " I think that's a good heading." Barbossa thought for a few moments and then finally said: " Well,I think that is good enough." " Weigh anchor!" He barked,"Let the main sail go!" Kaity jumped up and scampered up the main mast as quickly as you could blink your eyes. She let down the sail and climbed down. " What next captain?" She asked, breathless. " You and Will get up in the crow's nest, keep your eye open for anything suspicious," He paused and handed her a gun," Shoot that if you see anything." "I will-Captain." Said kaity and climbed up the mainsail. After they made it to the Crow's nest, they looked around for island's and other ship's. Kaity shivered as the rain began, pelting down from the angry black sky. They saw a brilliant streak of lightning plummet through the sky, then they heard an alarming snap coming from the "Flying Jib" sail. "The Jib!" Kaity screamed. "It's breaking loose!" Kaity grabbed her knife from her boot and cut a rope free. "I've got to-" But Kaity never got to finish, rain started pouring down in sheet's the wind picked up and blew the rope from her hands. "We need to get out!" Will shouted. "She's coming apart!" Will grabbed the knife from Kaity and cut another rope. He threw himself over the edge. "Kaity!" "Come one!" Kaity didn't need urging: She followed quickly. They made it to the deck and found Barbossa. "I don't know what we're going to do now!" "The ship's not going to take the storm!"  Kaity bit her lip and thought: If we discontinue the search we'll never find Dad. I've got to think. Kaity jerked out of her daze and took her knife from Will's hand and ran to the mainsail. "I'm going to dis-lodge the main sail! It's our only hope of survival!" "Kaity!" cried Will. "Be careful!" Kaity nodded and grabbed the rope they climbed down on. She carefully avoided the splintering wood of the old mast as she climbed upward. She cut away the holding rope's and let the sail down completely. It flew away like a gray ghost in the wet wind. "I've got to get the second sail down to..." Kaity snatched the rope. Knife in teeth, she carefully climbed down to the second sail. Just then, another streak of lightning pelted down from the stormy gray sky,it hit the main sail at full force it broke it jaggedly two, knocking Kaity from it. "Heeeellllllppppp!" She screamed as she plummeted down to the black, cold sea. She hit the water roughly. "Kaity!" "Kaity! Don't panic!" Kaity WASN'T going to panic: not if they got someone down to save her soon. She swam in measured stroke's so she wouldn't get tired. "Help me!" She yelled up at the crew. "We're coming-what the!?" The long mast hadn't broken completely free. Kaity watched it topple un-steadily and then creak forward. It snapped ominously and then fell into the water. Kaity grabbed it and hung onto it. "Thanks for that God." "But please knock some sense into their head's!"  Kaity suddenly felt the light wood of the mast sinking beneath her weight, she tried to swim away but a crack in the wood had snagged her shirt. Her shirt would not come lose. She was doomed. She slowly felt herself sinking beneath the choppy black surface of the water. Kaity counted 1,2,3 minute's and began to lose conscience. She saw what looked like a ghost not far from her. She was to delirious to know that Will jumped in after her and was swimming close by. Kaity was thoroughly unconscious by now. Will dove after her,the black water engulfing him to. He saw a floating white thing not 5 feet from him; it was Kaity. He grabbed her and tore her shirt free from the crack and jerked her upward. He climbed the rope ladder up the side with Kaity over his shoulder. She moaned slightly and let her head hang. He layed her down on the net's and looked her over. "Is she going to be all right?" Gibbs asked. "I don't know" "She was under for a few minutes."  Kaity coughed and some water came out. "Ouch. My side hurt's." She asked. " Are you all right otherwise?"  "Yes." She said "Your bleeding all over the place. Let me get a cloth." Kaity sighed. She looked down at her blood stained shirt. She opened it to reveal a long cut across her side. Will came back with the cloth and cleaned the cut out with some fresh water. "That was very scary you know: falling into the sea like that. It happened to me before. I swore I'd never do that again." "But,you guy's needed my help." Kaity sighed. "Kaity, that was very brave. I would never have done that in 1,000 years!" Raghetti said. "Thanks. I needed the scare anyway. It toughen's me up." Kaity didn't like it when people said things like that to her. "I'll get dinner ready. It's still raining." Kaity left the uncomfortable silence behind her as she walked down to the Galley. She hunted around for some thing's to feed the crew with. She made some stew and served it in wooden bowl's at the long table in the small dining room at the end of the Galley.Gradually, everyone came down in 2's and 3's and ate. After everyone finished eating, they all sat around below deck, playing card's,whittling, mending net's,and drinking rum. Kaity sat in her room studying some map's: for she was one of the only people on the ship that could read. She traced and circled paths to caves and such. Place's where the Craken had been known to rest. Place's where- "Ship!" she heard being called by Shorty up in the crow's nest. She stood up and looked out her porthole. It was a very small ship,a Schiff by the looks of it. Kaity couldn't make out who was on it. Kaity ran up onto deck and saw two figure's standing on the deck. "Just two..." Kaity said to herself. "Can we come aboard?" a strangley familiar voice called. "We ran into a storm halfway across The Atlantic!" "We haven't gotten off this thing for two day's!" said another voice,it sounded like a young girl. "Come on!" Will yelled across to them, "Kaity come here and give me a hand." "Okay Will." Kaity reached across to one of the people, the smaller person of the two grabbed Kaity's hand and jumped across to the deck. Kaity helped the girl to her feet and eyed her critically. She was of about 13,Kaity wagered, she was tall and thin with long chestnut brown hair and blue eyes. She was wearing clothe's similar to Kaity's. "Uh,hi. I'm Kaity Sparrow." "Are you really?! I've heard all about you! Your Jack Sparrow's Daughter, right?" " Yes. Who are you?" "I'm Alaina Norrington." kaity looked up as a water-logged man jumped over the side. "I DO NOT need your help Turner!" Alaina sighed. "How old are you Kaity?" "12 1/2. I'll be 13 next February." "I'll be 14 in march." Kaity thought: Are these people really safe? "Alaina dear,if you want any of your thing's to be saved from the storm, please go get them now, because I am not going to keep that Schiff." "Yes Dad." Kaity was desperate to make freind's with this girl. 'Do you want me to help you?" "Thanks! I could use it." Said Alaina. Kaity jumped across to the Schiff and Alaina jumped after her. "I've got some book's down in the hold, and then some of my clothe's are down there to." "Okay. "Say,where do you come from Alaina?" "I'm orginally from Port Royal." Said Alaina. "You?" " I was born in Jaalois,Jamaica."  "Really? I've been there. Wonderfull place." Kaity looked around the interior of the Schiff. It wasn't much different from their ship. "Over here" Said Alaina. Kaity helped Alaina carry the trunk up to the deck.  "I heard about your dad being well...eaten." "He was not eaten." "Well, maybe he was but I think he's still alive." "That's why we are here in the Atlantic. Lookin' for him.I hope we find him." "I see." The silence closed on the two as they heaved the trunk over the side. "So....." Kaity said. "How long have you and your dad been in the Caribbean?" Oh great, thought Kaity, what a dumb question. I hope she doesn't think I'm stupid. "Most of my life." "I did got to Europe once." "Me to. Sometime's we had silk and spice trade's there." Kaity said. The silence came back. "Um....are you hungry Alaina?"  "Starved! I'd eat a whale." "Okay, let me go catch one for you." Alaina grinned and they both laughed at her joke. Kaity knew that they would be great freinds. They both talked and laughed while they ate. Kaity helped her un-pack in her room. (It was the nicest room in the ship) "You'll sleep there." Kaity pointed to the bottom bunk of her bed. "Great." Alaina said. Silence once again reared it's ugly head. "So..." "What are your hobbies?" Kaity spoke first: " I like to help the Captain with his map work. I'm one of the only people who can read here. I write when I can. I started writing a book about Port Royal's Pirates, but it was destroyed in a storm." "Oh. That's sad." "Well,it give's me a chance to write it again and maybe make it better." "Uh huh." Kaity started talking about all the places that she had been, the people she had met,and the danger's that she had faced. Alaina asked her qeustions about the ship, and wrote down everything in a leather book. "What's that?" "My log. I've written down everything about every ship I've been on." "I used to do that to,but things get old fast." "Yes they do." Kaity showed Alaina around the ship,Alaina wrote down every detail carefully. "I have Crows nest watch now. Do you want to come with me?" "I would but..." "That's okay. I don't like doing it, but it's helping find dad." Kaity climbed the mast and got inside the Crows nest. "WILL! GET UP HERE!" She yelled. "Will helps me." She explained to Alaina. "Interesting..." Alaina wrote in her book some more.  It was very late when Kaity was done taking her shift,Alaina was in her room, writing. Kaity had noticed that the crew was sitting outside, being very still and quiet. "She told us to be quiet." Raghetti explained. Kaity came into the room silently. "I'm writing a book about us." Alaina said. "So I can always remember the kind people who took us in during the storm." Kaity smiled, and knew that this would be a good freindship. END OF PART 2

The Quartermaster

Posted in Alaina
The Quartermaster was elected by the pirate crew to be their "senator". He protected their interests, and was very important on the ship.

The Quartermaster's duties included settling quarrels, punishing minor offenses, regulating provisions, inspecting weapons, assinging work and battle stations, and inspecting the loot to see that it was properly shared.

He also did bookwork, so the Quartermaster must be literate.

If a man was elected, then the crew saw him as trustworthy, intelligent and responsible.

In many ways, the Quartermaster had more power than the Captain!

As you can see, pirates, (at least most of them), weren't the unintelligent bums that some people think they were. They were an important part of our world's history; without them, there'd be no Jack Sparrow!

Sincerely,

Capn' Barbossa's bio!

Captain (of course, he wasn’t a captain yet) Gregory Barbossa, was born in London, England in 1712 to Abraham and Jenny Barbossa.

After a brief life in the family business, ship making, Young 17 year old Barbossa decided to become a sailor. It wasn’t an easy life. He caught a terrible case of Scurvy and almost died from it, when he finally recovered, it left him slightly crazy. The other sailor’s called him, "Scatter brains" all of the time. It made him bitter, and angry towards most people.

He married Maria Del-a-Tren, and had one child, a boy named Phillippe. But Maria decided he was far too angry for a husband; so she took her son and their belongings, left him and never returned.

He tried to love, but no one would love him back.

Barbossa lost most memory of a clean, healthy life and became a drunken, disheveled Pirate.

After sailing independently for 6 years, he met my father: Jack.

My father was captain of Black Pearl. Barbossa decided to sail with him.

After 2 ½ years of sailing with my father, Barbossa had turned all of his crew against him. Mutiny in sued and before long Barbossa stranded Jack on an island and captained the Pearl himself.

When Jack got off the island, the crew had already done too much damage. They now had a curse. An evil curse. Jack had not wanted this to happen. He knew how to save their lives. But he didn’t find them in time. Most of them died.

Barbossa saved Jack’s life and turned into a good Pirate. But he still steals a little bit of treasure now and then, just to keep sharp.

I love him like an uncle and hope he never turns evil again.

With all due respect,

    Kaity Scarlett

The Captain

Posted in Alaina

For my next "series" of posts, I'll be talking about the different stations in a pirate crew: Captain, Quartermaster, Boatswain, (or bo'sun), Cook and Crewman.

As I have said before, there is a great wealth of myths concerning pirates out there.

They were dashing gentlemen, they loved to fight, etc. But perhaps the biggest myth concerns the Captain of a pirate ship.

Most believe that the captains were tyrants who ruled the crew with an iron fist. Most did not fit this description!

Think about it: What's the opposite of a strict, harsh, oppressive 17th -18th century naval crew? A pirate crew! So naturally the Captain would not be a domineering, bossy "ruler".

The only time a Captain a great amount of authority was in a battle.

Yes, he had a greater share of treasure. But he was responsible for finding a good place to get that treasure! Yes, he got his own cabin, But the other crew members could enter it at any given time!

The pirates governed themselves democratically, with a "one man, one vote" rule. The majority wins. Even if the Captain was not in the majority.

They were quick to protest any infringement on their rights, and to look at the mutiny of Jack Sparrow in The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Mutiny was a real aspect of a Captain's life. Because of this, the "power" given to a Captain or Officer was limited.

When I learned these things, I was surprised and a little depressed!

After all, who hasn't dreamt of a Hollywood style pirate ship and crew?

I hope you read these and get both knowledge and enjoyment!

Sincerely,

   Alaina Ruby

Tortuga, after Norrington’s Resignation
James Norrington felt slightly guilty. He supposed that his guilt was the result of the scrap of propriety left in him. After resigning as Commodore, he’d had a choice to make. Either he could go to England and try to regain some respect, or he could go to Tortuga and drown his worries in rum and whiskey. He chose the latter.
The reason he chose Tortuga? His was tired of being respectable and good. He wanted to do something out of the ordinary. At least, it was out of the ordinary for him. And besides, what was the purpose of staying respectable? He’d lost Elizabeth to that blacksmith, although he’d seen the way she looked at the infamous Jack Sparrow. He suspected that soon, Will Turner would be feeling the same way he did.

Tia Dalma’s Porch, After The Loss of Jack and The Black Pearl
In the core of his being, Will Turner knew he’d been replaced. He was no longer the center of her world. His place in her heart, soul and mind had been taken. By a pirate. A lying, cheating, scoundrel. A drunk and a criminal. Yet he knew that he too, was a criminal. By helping Jack, he had sealed his fate as a criminal.
But this…..replacement, was not really a shock. It was, but it wasn’t. He should have seen it coming. Elizabeth was cultured and refined on the outside. But on the inside she was a beautiful caged bird, yearning for freedom.
His only hope was that someday, somehow, he would love again.

Yours truly~

~Blackbeard~

Posted in Alaina

Despite a fierce reputation that has survived nearly three centuries, Blackbeard wouldn't be called a successful pirate. Those were rich men who died a quiet death at an old age.

But Blackbeard certainly was notorious.

He was born Edward Drummond around 1680 in Bristol, England, according to history brooks. He assumed the surname Teach, also spelled Thatch, Tache or Tatch, as a pirate. His more well-known nickname came from his dark, bushy whiskers.

Legend says that Blackbeard, a big man with a formidable countenance, used his beard to heighten any pirate's biggest weapon - the ability to engender fear. Before battle, he supposedly braided his whiskers into pigtails and tucked slow-burning matches amongst them or behind his ears, spending curls of smoke around his face.

Blackbeard was always armed with an array of daggers, swords and loaded pistols, though some historians say there's no evidence he killed anyone until the day of his own death.

His nautical bad-guy career began during Queen Anne's War, as a privateer sailing out of Jamaica to attack French merchant ships.

After the war ended in 1713, Blackbeard crewed for another pirate in the Bahamas. he captured the French slaver, Concorde, in 1717. When he was rewarded with its command, he renamed it Queen Anne's Revenge.

At its largest, his force included four ships and 300 or more men. The fleet assaulted mariners from the Caribbean to New England. North Carolina's coast offered several hideouts from colonial and British authorities. An anchorage at Ocracoke is still called Teach's Hole. Bath was another Blackbeard haunt.

North Carolina's Gov. Charles Eden reportedly shrugged at pirate activity and possibly shared in Blackbeard's booty. Eden pardoned the pirate in June 1718.

Blackbeard supposedly was semi-retired in November 1718 when he met his end at Ocracoke. In fact, some historians theorize the losses of Queen Anne's Revenge and a smaller sloop, Adventure, in June 1718, were intentional. Grounding the vessels in Beaufort Inlet might have been the pirate's way of "downsizing" his business.

Pirate attacks off the colonial coast continued, however, and Virginia's Gov. Alexander Spotswood blamed Blackbeard. Not so forgiving as Eden, he put a price on Blackbeard's head and urged the British military, the Virginia Assembly and Eden's opponents to help capture him.

Blackbeard was tricked into battle by Lt. Robert Maynard off Ocracoke Nov. 22, 1718, on a British sloop. According to legend, the pirate fought on even after being shot, stabbed and slashed across the throat, until he died while cocking a pistol.

It was the custom of the times to display dead pirates as a deterrent to the occupation. Blackbeard's severed head was hung from the bowspirit of Maynard's ship.

Sounds gross, doesn't it?

Since Blackbeard is so well-known, I thought it would be nice to do a biography on him.
