I thought that today I would just share with you a little about our Ruby Girls (Proverbs 31) Group.
We began our group about one and a half years ago and meet twice a month alternating between three homes. We have 4 homeschool families and a total of 7 girls (currently ages 6-13). We keep our group small as we do some pretty elaborate crafts and it would be difficult to have more girls (squished in a kitchen).
Our group verse is : "Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies." Proverbs 31:10
Our group purpose is: "A small-group mother/daughter Bible study in which mothers, as Titus 2:3-5 women, encourage their daughters to grow in Christian maturity; training their daughter(s) to be godly, virtuous women, as set forth in Proverbs 31:10-31; to be able keepers-of-the-home; fit help meets to their future husbands; and have a passion of service to others."
Each meeting consists of:
1) Opening prayer and hymn sing
2) Review of memory verses from Proverbs 31:10-31 (those that have already memorized this (like Bookworm) go on to other assigned scripture.
3) Lesson Time: Our group is similar to "Bright Lights", if you are familure with them, but we use the ATI EXCEL Far Above Rubies (Bill Gothard) booklets as our main text. There are 24 booklets, each covering a verse, or part of a verse, from Prov. 31:10-31. (It is designed so that if a young lady begins at age 8 and works through 3 booklets each year, she will have completed all 24 booklets by the end of her 15th year. Booklets are 16 pages long).
4) Life Skill/Craft Time: We learn a life skill or do a craft together that is applicable to the lesson.
5) Fellowship: snack & free play
This past week we learned cake decorating - very fun. One of my dear friends & Ruby mom does some part-time work at General Mills (she develops recipes, helps write cookbooks, & judges cooking contests - she also makes wedding cakes & sometimes does catering. Cool ha?) taught our group and was it ever fun. I even learned a few tips. We love our group!
Picture: Ladybug (in plaid) & Bookworm (in blue) with another Ruby girl starting their cakes. I can't show you the finished product as they wrote their real names on their cakes :). They were beautiful and yummy! (This was not at our house). Next time we start embroidery samplers. |
