he said to them, "Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you -- THEY ARE YOUR LIFE. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess."

~ The Simple Woman's Daybook - June 23, 2008 ~

For Today ~ Monday, June 23, 2008

Outside My Window...a BEAUTIFUL summer day!!!

I am thinking...Why did God make mosquitoes?

I am thankful for...my wonderful husband and daughters and country living.

From the kitchen...
Monday ~ French Toast & Sausage
Tuesday ~ Lasagna
Wednesday ~ Salad
Thursday ~ Tatter Tot Hotdish
Friday ~ Salmon
Saturday ~ Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Wings
Sunday ~ Sloppy Joes

I am creating...working on the girls' scrapbooks (something I was suppose to start last week and didn't get to it).

I am going...to be home most of this week, with the exception of shuttling the girls to where they need to be and a few errands around our small town.

I am wearing...my usual barn wear... denim capris, black long-sleeve t-shirt (will have to change into a short-sleeve soon), & sports socks.  Hair in ponytale.

I am reading...Joshua and the Book of Acts; little time to sit down & read anything else.

I am hoping...my dh can make a run for our two families of chicks this week.  The fox is back and I can't let them free-range right now -- she got 2 of our neighbor's hens & 4 chicks just this Saturday; practically carrying her favorite hen right past our noses.  By the time dh could grab his gun, she was out of range.

I am hearing...the birds' joyful songs outside my open window; youngest daughter just came down to say good morning and is now hunting up some breakfast.

Around the house...keeping the house clean & company-ready at all times.

One of my favorite things...okay, this is going to sound silly, but... taco salad.  I just had some leftover taco salad for breakfast and it was delicious!

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...today I need to pay bills and pick up a re-fill on our dog's medication.  Else it's mostly working on scrapbooks; tending to the garden & flowers; and shuttling the girls back and forth for Summer Youth Theater practice.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing for you...

Three of our 4 baby chicks this morning - now 5 days old.

Trevor says, "Aw, they are so cute!" I agree. Having chicks around must be so fun for your girls. I am amazed at how fast they grow from watching them at Conner Prairie. The ducks that were born just 2 months ago are now adult size! We held them in our hands just 2 months ago!
Great daybook.

Jun. 23, 2008 - taco salad

We had taco salad twice last week. I think we'll probably have it again this week. My kids love it so much and it's easy to fix and tastes good in the summer.

Have a blessed week.

Sounds like a wonderful slow summer day. We'll both be paying bills today :( Thought I'd blog before I do that so maybe I'll do it with a smile.:)

Peonies on your table? Sounds beautiful! We had some but now it's hydrangea time - their just blooming now, as well as our roses.

So I have Korean lilacs you think? It's always nice to know. Someone left me a comment and said that there was over 200 varieties of lilacs (I think it was Mary/CanadaGirl). I'd love to have all 200, wouldn't you?

The pics of the chicks are really cute. I know we have foxes around here but I never seen them close to our house (at least yet). Maybe you need a dog that will chase the fox away? Our two dogs are really territorial (sorry about the spelling) and if a coyote comes near, their barking and chasing like crazy. Although our gentle retreiver is no match for a wild coyote, it's as if they know their on someone elses property and it seems to help having Jack chase down the pastures at them. Little Sammy (toy colly) seems to help with the raccoons, although they do come up to our porch when he's not out :(

Hello my friend!

I have missed visiting with you. How is your summer? I've been spending most of my time in the gardens so far. :-) Hope all is well!

The taco salad sounds yummy. And the pictures of the chicks looks cute. I hope you get that run put up soon so the fox doesn't have anything else to eat. :)

You got "conched" on the foot. HA! That's not funny. I'm sorry. Those conch shells are killers. We live in Wesley Chapel which is north of Tampa and close to Dade City I guess. Have you heard of it? You're better off for moving away. It's too expensive and hot here. I want to live where it's cold, up at your place. Course, I heard the mosquitoes were bad there. :)
