Hi! Welcome to my blog! My name is Jane (PlainJane) and I am the blessed and happy wife to Jeff and doubly blessed mama of two perfectly wonderful daughters. Please join me as I share our Lifestyle of Learning through Christian homeschooling and homesteading on our little hobby farm with our prairie girls.
Bookworm is our dd14/9th grader.
Our perfectionist and over-achiever. She loves reading, playing violin, her Paint horse, Annie, being a farm girl, and History re-entacting.
Ladybug
is our dd11/6th grader.
Our "girls just want to have fun" girl. She loves to play and has a great sense of humor, but also likes reading, music, her Quarter Horse, Kitty, and History re-enactment.
We are finished reading
the Moody books
By Sarah Maxwell
and HIGHLY recommend them

he said to them, "Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you -- THEY ARE YOUR LIFE. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess." Deuteronomy 32:46-47
Jun. 26, 2008~ The Turkey Trot ~
This morning while sitting at the computer, I hear our naughty chickens on the front porch, busily eatting the cat food, when suddenly, they begin to squawk as if in grave danger. I quickly run to the door to check to make sure the fox isn't attacking, and when I see it is nothing like that, like any good blogger, I grab my camera and run outdoors.
Well, by the time my camera finally flashed, this is all I caught ~ our friendly neighborhood turkey scampering down our driveway (see her dust). I really feel sorry for the poor dear. She seems very lonely and probably just wanted to join our chickens. She was right up near our front sidewalk. (no Antoinette, she hasn't come to the front door, yet , like yours did). If you remember, last year we had 22 turkeys that made their rounds on our property twice each day, so I was afraid that we would have at least twice that much this year. But earlier this spring all we saw was five or six and now it's down to just this one. I hope she finds some friends soon.
Update: The roosters might want to reconsider and make friends with this lone female turkey -- tonight (Friday) we arrive home from celebrating the completion of another school year (taking the girls to Chuck E. Cheese's) only to find feathers all over our driveway. The fox had been back and took our last remaining hen (with the exception of 2 other hens currently in cages with their 4 little chicks). It had scared the roosters clear over to our neighbor's flock. Now we have 2 roosters out of a job.
We had rabbits do the same thing last night. They were right on our front porch. Then our black lab caught a whiff of them. She tore off after them. I about choked! She almost caught them, too, but they escaped by about one foot under the barbed-wire fence into the neighbor's field. Whew!
Thanks for sharing!

Hi! I'm leaving a generic message on my blogging friends post today to let everyone know that my blog feeder won't be accessible while I'm on vacation. I'm relying on comments with links for my visitation. I really hope to keep up on everyones blog while I'm gone. I hope to post a few photos, too.
Maybe you should post a sign that you won't eat her...maybe then she'll come to your front door.... :)
Did you know we once had an alligator in our yard/property/lake? Yep, right here in northern Indiana. IF I ever find the picture we took (this was 7 years ago) I'll have to blog about it.
Your daughter's pics of the one room school house are really neat.
I'm not sure I find anything funnier than turkeys. They are so goofy looking, especially when they're walking. We sort of live in town here and we had 8 turkeys in our neighbor's garden a week ago. I love the picture of his dust. How cute.
I think you need a hired hand to watch the place when you leave. Maybe a big, scary dog? I am sorry to hear this news. I hope you don't get discouraged and give up on the chicken business. There has to be a way.
