Amber (Bookworm) is our dd15/10th grader. Our perfectionist and over-achiever. She loves reading, playing violin, all things vintage, riding her Paint horse, and being a farm girl.

Anna (Ladybug) is our dd12/7th grader. Our "girls just want to have fun" girl. She loves to play and has a great sense of humor, but also enjoys cooking, music, and riding her QH pony.

~ The Simple Woman's Daybook - Monday, May 18th, 2009 ~

For Today, Monday, May 18th, 2009

Outside My Window
... a beautiful morning, already 52, looking for a high of 78 ~ clear blue sky.

I'm thinking... I'm currently on a mission to buy the girls one or two new-to-us saddles, so right now I'm educating myself on saddles - eating, sleeping, breathing saddles - my brain is on saddle overload.  I'll be so glad when we just get the saddle(s) and I can focus on something else.

From the learning rooms...
We are now officially done with school for the year - our learning room is now out in the paddock, working with the horses nearly two hours a day.

I
am thankful for... there is just soooo much to be thankful for - I find it so trivial fussing over saddles when many don't have anything to eat.

From the kitchen...

M - Roast Beef, potatoes & carrots
T - Garden Salad & Rolls
W - Sausage, Pancakes, Hash Browns
TH - Sauteed Sirloin Tips & Potato Skins
F - Bookworm's Choice
S - (?)

I am wearing... barnwear: black exercise capris, long-sleeved black t-shirt, sports socks, hair is wet & in ponytail.

I am reading... OT: I Samuel; NT: John, KJB
(Mostly put the books to the side for a little while while I inhale articles on saddles )

I am hoping... the wind cooperates and I get that garden in TODAY!!!

I am creating...
 memories.

I am hearing... the clock ticking, the computer humming, some thumping from upstairs - someone must be awake.

Around the house & barn... Usual housework, laundry, ironing, and same as last week...TOP PRIORITY:  GOTTA get that garden in this week and also work with the horses every day!

One of my favorite things... looking at photos, bringing back the memories.

I am going... to be home most all week, but do have to get some groceries soon and need to go to the tack store to buy a cavesson (noseband) for Bookworm's horse.

A few plans for the rest of the week...
M - Laundry; groceries?; buy cavesson; gardening; work with horses; sew cute horse pad cover for Ladybug's horse; call on a saddle
T - Horse riding lessons for the girls; gardening
W -
Gardening; horses
TH - horses
F - Last Ruby Girls Bible Study for the season; horses
S - Do some painting (maybe); horses

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...
I love the view from our deck this time of year - the crab apple trees are so pretty.

Thanks for stopping!  Warm Wishes for a Wonderful Week!

Could you say that you are "saddle-brained?" (lol) I know how you feel. I am suffering from camper-itis. I hope you find just what you are looking for. I know they can be expensive. Have a great day!

Have fun planting your garden! This year we are not going to garden but instead plant some flowers. (Less maintenance for this mama after a rough year!)

Your picture is beautiful. Have a wonderful week!

Sounds like a busy week for you. We are finishing up school this week. Kind of feel like I shouldn't plan too much this summer, just in case we buy a house. Then again I can't put my life on hold either. :)

Hi Jane,

I enjoyed reading your daybook. Sounds like you're having busy fun time with the horses. Kayla needs to get more busy with hers. I found a trainer locally and now I just need to get it scheduled!

Have a good week,
Jenelle

Jane, so did you find some saddles? I thought the story of the saddle your fil bought you was a hoot. The thought was sweet, though.

I wish you had been here this past weekend. I am not a garage sale person, per say, but Rachel got a phone call from our missionary neighbors that were less than a mile away at a garage sale, telling her that there was tack for sale at this garage sale.
So, it's a Saturday, going to a garage sale was not on my list of things I wanted or planned to do, but couldn't resist! :)

I am soooo glad we went Jane! This lady had advertised her garage sale, but had decided that morning she'd sell her tack stuff as she had not been into horses for five years now. This meant that although we didn't get there until around 11:30 a.m., we were only the third person to look at what she had.

Now, I do hope you got some saddles, Jane, because if you didn't, I'm about to make you jealous :) -
I got the perfect western saddle for a child or small teen (what I need) that just kind of fits the small framed person in feeling secure - perfect condition, everything with it - girth, stirups, etc... for the price of....... $25.00!!!!!!
This saddle is in perfect condition except it needed to be leather cleaned and polished.

Then, she had another saddle with the cost of $50.00, another perfect saddle that came with everything. I offered $40.00, she accepted.

Then she pulled out a English saddle that her mother in law had just then and there decided to sell - we needed an English saddle because we only have one and both Rachel and I like to ride English. She sold it to us for $25.00 - it too came with everything and is in perfection condition (it's not all leather, but it's very light weight and comfortable. Not a show saddle, but a practice one.)

She sold us a pair of English spurs, Stubocks, still in it's little wooden box, for $5.00 And then she sold Rachel two English riding outfits for the upcoming 4-H for $35.00 - this was a black suit (you know the stuff English wears) and a Green one , plus three shirts. Perfect condition, The lady that sold them to us had bought each one for around $175. new.

We got a new helmit, crop, and ton of other things, and some she just threw in for free.

Rachel told me on the way home that she had been really worried about being able to come up with everything for 4-H (the cost of it all) and all of this was an answer to prayer for her. She had prayed (and worried) about a saddle - she said on the way home, it was as if God was telling her - "You need a saddle? Here, have a saddle - have one, two, three!" He owns the cattle on a thousand hills and everything we worry about is for naught, He can provide all and then some.

Jane, you always amaze me how horse crazy you are. I didn't know anyone like me existed out there. Well, except for teenage girls....:) I'm so glad I have someone to share horse stuff with.

May. 26, 2009 - Happy Summer Plain Jane!

Hello Jane! Sorry it's taken me so long to respond back to you. What a breathtaking view of your pasture! I am surrounded by dense trees, but I have the view of the ocean just down the road. Someday, my dream is to have a little farm of my own, but for now, our "farm" is the sea.

We have just finished our year of homeschooling as well. May 22 was our last day. Happy Summer! God bless!
