Tuesday, August 29 WARNING: This could happen to YOU

"Honey, I shrunk...?" August 25, 2006.
Last month an unsuspecting HomeschoolBlogger contacted me regarding a visit she was going to make to Chicago. Little did she know at the time that it would come to this. But what fun we had!
Here we are, Mrs. Incredible (on the right) and me, Mrs. Potato Head, at the Museum of Science and Industry. We're standing by a retired robot arm located in the Toymaker 3000 exhibit. Mrs. Incredible wasn't able to convince Violet or Dash to pose after a "Honey, we shrunk the kids!" fashion, but if Violet had known how the Colleen Moore's Fairy Castle would delight her, I think she would not have minded shrinking to scale at all.
Dash had a great time by the fluffy yellow chicks: he discovered that they would chase him if he ran around the perimeter of the hatchery! And we all enjoyed watching his robot dance.
Jack-Jack is just too cute. He looked up at me from his stroller as though he immediately knew and liked me, and by the time we said good-bye, he was comfortable napping in his mama's arms.
Mr. and Mrs. Incredible and I had a lovely time getting to know each other. ("Mr. Potato Head" had to be at work.) I learned that she uses her superpowers for political causes! And we agreed to meet up again when the "Potato Heads" travel to their neighborhood in Ohio for the opening of the Creation Museum.
So how 'bout it? Wouldn't you like to come to Chicago? Wouldn't you enjoy a travel planner to help you navigate the highways or transit system? And a personal tour guide to steer you to the best exhibits?
But be warned: you may have your true superhero identity exposed on this blog for all the world to see.
from Hebrews 13:
2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. |

Thursday, August 10 Husband, Father, Instructor, Broadcaster, Blogger

Superior Stones. Autumn 2003.
I'd like to introduce you to my husband.
Yes, you know a little something about him by now, but now you can meet him for yourself: he's started a blog entitled Ebenim.
I know he would love to have you drop by to read about the ebenim in our lives. Please encourage your husbands to leave a comment welcoming him in.
from Exodus 17:
13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. 14 Then the LORD said to Moses, Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. 15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-LORD-Is-My-Banner.

Wednesday, August 2 We Interrupt Our Regularly Scheduled Blog...

Fossil Ingredients. July 2006.
Remember that self-proclaimed "Cool Fossil" activity I posted last week? It's been picked up by The Experimental Zone at The Official HSB Company Blog!
Thanks, Michelle!
Check it out! And while you're there, be sure to take a peek at the vanilla wafer color wheel; I think it's on our menu for sometime soon...
from Acts 27:
36 Then they were all encouraged, and also took food themselves.

Monday, July 10 Easy Tweaks #4

La Comida Hermosa. Summer 2003.
Have you ever noticed that some blogs (including mine) cause a little orange RSS box to show up in the bottom right hand corner of your browser? That's just another way to enable someone to subscribe, and it's even easier to do. This is Easy Tweaks #4.
Go to the page for editing your template. The first line probably has, between angle brackets, the "word": html. The second line probably has, between angle brackets, the word: head. After this line add, between angle brackets:
link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml"
href="YOUR RSS FEED SHORTCUT HERE"
title="RSS feed for YOUR BLOG NAME HERE"
And actually use those quotation marks as I've got them, but you'll have to replace whatever is in all caps with your own stuff.
Let me know if you try any of these tweaks and run into something confusing. I'll try to answer questions, but I won't be very helpful as tech support. I've had trouble with Yahoo! recognizing some HomeschoolBlogger feeds, but sometimes it works. Beats me why.
But I hope you have fun with it, and I hope you've enjoyed my Los Guatemaltecos Hermosos series of photos!
from John 6:
35 And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day." |

Monday, July 10 Easy Tweaks #3

Las Amigas Hermosas. Summer 2003.
Easy Tweaks #3 has to do with RSS feeds. To syndicate your blog you do not need to subscribe to any service; HomeschoolBlogger already provides what you need. Those services will keep statistics for you and are helpful if you want reassurance that someone is actually visiting your blog.
Take a look at the sidebar on the right. Aside from the first button, which is a link to my feed in raw html code, you will see some of the most commonly used feed readers. A mouse click on any of them will initiate the process of subscribing to my blog. Isn't that fun?
First, locate your blog's RSS feed. HomeschoolBloggers can find it by logging in and clicking on the Site Feed (RSS) link in the left sidebar. Now, with your RSS link copied to your clipboard, go to: http://www.toprankresults.com/tools/button-maker.php. Fill out the online form, then copy the returned code into your template.
'Sall there is to it.
from Proverbs 22:
11 He who loves purity of heart And has grace on his lips, The king will be his friend.
