The fray, Part 2

The time has come to shed some Biblical light on this continuing homosexual debate. I have been accused of not using enough Scripture, which is fair. So, I will attempt to provide as much Biblical reference as I can in this post.

Now, let us define our terms. Temptation is when the Devil gives you suggestions saying “why don’t you do this?” and your fleshly nature feels that urge to respond. Obviously, it would not be difficult to resist temptation if we felt no fleshly urge to commit the sin. As a result of our fallen state, our flesh is constantly pulling at us to do sinful things. What we do with this pull is what defines us. James 1:14-15 says that we are tempted when we are enticed by the lust present in our flesh, and if we give in to it, it will “conceive and bear sin.”

Homosexual temptation is when you are tempted to lust after someone of the same sex or engage in a sexual activity with someone of the same sex. This conduct (lusting and/or engaging in the behavior) is condemned in Leviticus 18:22. Once again, our flesh is very strong, especially in sexual areas, so many people feel the fleshly pull to be sexually immoral, whether it be a homosexual or heterosexual temptation.

At this point, I think we all agree so far.

Now, the Bible seems to indicate that temptation is a weapon that Satan uses against us. I do believe we can choose to be tempted in some cases, which is wrong. But that is obviously not always the case, for Jesus himself was tempted (Luke 4:1-2) and yet he never sinned. Plus, the Bible portrays temptation as a suffering that Christians will endure, with the help of Christ. (Hebrews 2:18) In fact, in some cases we should consider it a blessing to be tempted! (James 1:2 KJV)

Therefore, as far as I can tell, when someone is tempted to think lustful thoughts about someone of the same sex, or act on those thoughts, they are not sinning unless they yield to the temptation. That is the only point I have been trying to make this whole time.

Remember what the bible says about temptation. It is when we are enticed by the inherent lust of our flesh. If we did not have that inherent pull to sin, the temptation would be easy to resist. For some people, that fleshly pull is in a homosexual “direction”. That fleshly pull is evil, but the person is not committing evil until they yield to it. I base this on the fact that Jesus was 100% human, and therefore had a fleshly, corrupted body that would draw him to sin. That is what Satan used to tempt him (Luke 4). Yet he did not yield to the temptation, and he therefore did not sin.

As a last note, let me make one thing very clear: I do not believe homosexual lust or homosexual behavior is okay. I believe it is a sin that goes directly against the teachings of the Bible. I do not want anyone to accuse me of condoning homosexuality.

This is really great, Timothy. I agree 100%.

And I must say, it is much less stressful to sit around and agree here and there rather than toil over my argument and constantly have to think about it (which I've done and lost too much precious sleep over). :D

The issue here is that a thought doesn't make you h/s. Entertaining these thoughts (you referred to h/s lust) does.

Being tempted doesn't make you h/s. Thinking about the temptation rather than immediately using the Word of God against it (as Jesus did), means you are entertaining the idea. When you start entertaining the idea and accepting the idea, it usually leads a person to believe they must be h/s.

when someone is tempted to think lustful thoughts about someone of the same sex, " which is the temptation, then, correct?: "
or act on those thoughts,
" -which means they already have acted on the temptation, thereby having already yielded to the temptation, right?
"they are not sinning unless they yield to the temptation. -since they actually already yielded to the temptation by acting on those thoughts, it is sin.

Those are the two distinctions between temptation to have h/s thoughts and having lustful thoughts about h/s. It sounds like this is what you are saying.

If you read back through chris's many references to h/s clear back to Nov. 21, 2006 (prob before then, too), you will find he is not stating what you just have.

Hope this doesn't sound hateful. I feel like I know a handful of you on hsb, after meeting you IRL and then with NJAO and just with the girls being a part of this circle of friends.
I am certainly glad you gave more scripture, as I thought that was like you to do.

If I did not correctly assess what you just said, then I am just not going to understand what you are talking about

Sincerely,
Mrs. D.

Whether what you have written here lines up with Chris' beliefs or not, there is nothing incorrect (that I see) in this post. It is well written. Unfortunately, it looks as if people are taking it as an arguement for Chris and still trying to debate you.

Yeah, I guess there is no point to this comment.

hey man thanx for standing up for what u believe in! with so many ppl bent on attacking ppl they don't agree with, it can be hard to do.

I think this whole thing has gotten messy, many don't seem to want to debate with any kind of open mind (yes I'm guilty of that too)...the only reason I didn't ignore all this from the start is I wanted to show ppl that there r some on this site that tell other to not read blogs because they things the writer is wrong...talk about not coexisting lol

and I want to apologize for Mrs. D's comment about her being an adult on my blog. She must not see you and me as adults ourselves.

I don't think it was your intention to be disrespectful and it is hard to hear tones of voice, as I said before. You know that I know you are a respectful young man after meeting you. You are quite a respectful young man.
Maybe that is why your words seemed disrespectful, because I didn't expect it to be put that way.
I also suspect that you, unlike Chris, would never fly the banner of "I'm an adult".
So if you think I need to apologize, please let me know.

This post was clearly well-thought-out, and I completely understand what you're saying. We are all sinners- being tempted by homosexual feelings is no different, Biblically, than being tempted to steal or being tempted to eat more chocolate than is good for you. Thus the temptation is not the sin- the action is.
It's sad that so many people view homosexuals as "disgusting" or "evil" when in reality, all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. After the Fall, all of mankind became tainted with sin- and this includes homosexuality.
Great blog, btw.

You don't know me.. but i'm actually Coie AND paulie's aunt (by about 5 years.. so not a whole lot older than ANY of you guys). I've experienced first hand kind of the "you don't agree with me so I can't stand you right now and you'd better get a clue you idiot" philosophy. It's ridiculous.. i think you (AND MUCH OF WHAT CHRIS BELIEVES) is completely right on. I admire you for your boldness in sharing what you believe even with the chance of being attacked. You've got a good head on your shoulders, it appears. Keep Christ as the center of your life, never compromise your beliefs, and always be more quick to extend grace rather than condemnation..

Keep shining!

Humbly
