Add some blonde hair and a dress, a freshly painted room, a stray purple crayon, and you probably get the idea... |

My oldest just passed a milestone: he finished the math book. That may not seem like much, but a lot has happened in the course of this book. I would guess that this book has facilitated 75% character education, and 25% math education.
So tonight, to celebrate, we had sopapillas! We loved them, and it was so fun...
Here's a recipe: 1 c flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1T butter, marg, or shortening 1/3 c. warm water
Mix the flour & baking powder, cut the butter in (as fine as you can). Slowly add the warm water, mixing with a fork. Turn out onto a floured counter and knead until smooth (3-5 min.). Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Roll out and cut into 2 1/2" squares (I used a pizza cutter). Drop 2-3 in deep fat fryer with oil at 425*. Cook 30 seconds or so on each side, until golden.
Drain on paper towels, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and drizzle with honey. Enjoy!

I turned my head for just a minute, and now...
My oldest is almost 10, and more of a little man than a big boy. He looks at me almost eye-to-eye. He knows more than I do. He is my dependable right-hand man when Daddy is at work.
My baby sleeps in a big girl bed. She gets up and down the stairs by herself. Her eyes twinkle with pleasure at her own ability to speak in complete sentences. She mourns the Very Hungry Caterpillar's stomache ache...every time.
My younger son is a deep thinker and feeler. He absorbs and integrates and ruminates...all the time. He is as tender as a mother with his littlest sister, and yet... He is a tough guy with intense determination.
My older daughter is reading fluently, and losing herself in the magic of books. She has developed a mind for the everyday details I forget. She has a personality that can light up a room. She has a quiet, inner beauty that takes my breath away.

Baby Bunny turned 2 yesterday. ***Sigh***. In God's providence, she is our last child. (Long story...if you know me, you know the story. If you don't know me, you may not be interested...suffice it to say this child's birth was a real life lab of "what can go wrong" and the end result is that my childbearing years came to a complete and abrupt halt.)
We're rewarding her success in reaching the age of two (believe me, there have been days when we were not sure she'd make it...daredevil) by moving her out of the crib. Today my very patient husband played the home decorator's version of the shell game, moving heavy furniture up and down stairs.
The older girl and the Baby Bunny (I refuse to acknowledge that she is no longer a baby) are now sharing a queen-sized futon, permanently in the "bed" position...they are both short enough that we arranged them to sleep the long way--across the bed...maximizing the area each daughter can claim as her own. I'm upstairs outside their door, typing this, as I'm a little anxious to see how this first night will work.
Big Sis's captain's bed went downstairs to the living room, against the wall of 3 windows. I'm hoping a strategic sheet/throw blanket/throw pillow arrangement will provide a really cozy reading nook and 3 huge drawers of new storage.
I don't know what it is, but there is something therapeutic in rearranging furniture. |

If you've never had the pleasure of a spontaneous indoor water fight, I highly recommend it!
Be sure to be the first one to the kitchen sink sprayer... |
